Kanye West Premieres Photos Of Michael Jackson’s Neverland

Pics from upcoming ‘Neverland Lost’ book are featured on KanyeWest.com. By James Montgomery Michael Jackson Photo: Eamonn McCormack/ WireImage On Thursday morning (May 13), Kanye West took to his website to post a series of photographs taken from the upcoming book “Neverland Lost: A Portrait of Michael Jackson ,” which gives fans an intimate look at the late King of Pop’s life through his expansive collection of pop art, clothing and artifacts. The series of more than 60 shots — taken by acclaimed Swiss photographer Henry Leutwyler — showcases just a portion of Jackson’s vast collection, but it’s a fascinating glimpse nonetheless: gilded statues, cherubs carved from marble, oil paintings depicting Jackson as a medieval prince, Disney figurines. That’s not to mention up-close shots of MJ’s famous bejeweled military outfits, dance shoes with his name scrawled on the soles and rhinestone-covered gloves. Included with the photographs on Kanye’s site is a message from Leutwyler, which explains the impetus behind the “Neverland” book. “It is said that the pharaohs built tombs to reveal their lives to future generations. Michael Jackson sacrificed his childhood to the calling of his musical gift,” Leutwyler wrote. “Neverland was the pyramid he constructed to a lost childhood. The artifacts captured in this book return us to the Neverland he lost.” West — who, in recent months has been keeping a low profile as he finishes work on a new album — also added his own message, thanking Leutwyler for sharing the photographs with him and paying tribute to Jackson, a man he considers to be musical royalty. “Thank you, Henry! I’m grateful to be premiering your photos. The book is an amazing document of Mike’s treasures,” West wrote. “His clothes, art, and artifacts express the essence of the greatest pop icon of our time. Mike truly was a King!” Related Videos ‘Michael Jackson’s This Is It’ Premiere Special Michael Jackson’s MTV Moments Related Photos The King’s Palace: Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch MTV News’ 2009 Men Of The Year: #1 Michael Jackson Family & Friends Say Goodbye To Michael Jackson Related Artists Michael Jackson Kanye West

‘Eclipse’ Clip Shows Volturi Scheming In Seattle

Dakota Fanning and company watch the newborn vampires’ chaos in brand-new clip. By Eric Ditzian Photo: Summit Entertainment Robert Pattinson , Kristen Stewart and Taylor Lautner don’t need to get all the attention, do they? With the “Twilight” trio set to appear together Thursday (May 13) on an episode of “The Oprah Winfrey Show,” Summit Entertainment released a brand-new clip from “Eclipse” in which none of them appears. Instead the footage, which debuted as an iTunes exclusive , focuses on Dakota Fanning’s Jane and her crew of Volturi vampire badasses, giving us our closest look yet at their roles in “Eclipse.” And the 40-second clip is doubly interesting because this scene does not appear in the book on which the film is based. The scene opens as the Volturi, the Italy-based royalty of the vampire world, look down upon a collection of newborn vampires sowing chaos on the city streets. These just-turned bloodsuckers were created by Victoria (Bryce Dallas Howard) with the express purpose of destroying Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) and his family, as well as Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart). The Volturi watch the Seattle newborns feed on humans, overturn cars and generally create an atmosphere of violent chaos. “They’ve already drawn too much attention,” Demetri (Charlie Bewley) says. “So has our inaction,” Felix (Daniel Cudmore) responds. “Others may begin to question the Volturi’s effectiveness.” But the diminutive Jane is not buying this call for a show of strength. “Let them,” she says, her blood-red eyes unblinking. Felix remains unsatisfied. “Maybe we should consult with Aro,” he suggests. It’s then that we see Jane’s abilities on full display. She can inflict incapacitating pain with only her thoughts — a special ability she developed after being burned at the stake as a child. As she holds Felix using only her mind, Jane’s brother Alec (Cameron Bright) looks on. “Aro’s decisions are being watched,” she says cryptically. “Either we let them do what they were created for, or we end them. Decisions, decisions.” What do you think of this scene and its departure from Stephenie Meyer’s “Eclipse”? Share your thoughts in the comments. Chely Wright Makes It Official: I’m Gay

It’s official: Chely Wright is gay. The country music singer tells this week’s issue of People : “Nothing in my life has been more magical than the moment I decided to come out.” That moment has arrived, but Wright says it took awhile to get there. Growing up in the south (she was born in Kansas City, Missouri), the Academy of Country Music’s Top New Female Vocalist in 1994 said she doesn’t have “a memory in my life that doesn’t include the dream of making music.” But she resided in a world that shunned homosexuality and, therefore, “hid everything for my music.” Why come out now? The news coincides with the release of Wright’s memoir this week Like Me , as well as her first album in five years, Lifted off the Ground . Part of the official synopsis for the book reads that Wright made “a pact with God: to keep her “sinning” to a minimum if he’d get her to the stage of the Grand Ole Opry.” We’re proud of her for finally revealing her true true to the world. What do you think of this announcement?

Christina Aguilera’s Fans Weigh In On ‘Not Myself Tonight Video’

‘Christina is a pop-cultural reflection of the world,’ one fan says. By Eric Ditzian Christina Aguilera in her video for “Not Myself Tonight” Photo: RCA Christina Aguilera is back, and she didn’t bring a whole lot of clothing with her. The star’s “Not Myself Tonight” video showcases the 29-year-old singer in one revealing outfit after another — a chain-mail bikini, a see-through raincoat, some red lingerie — in a pop-culture mashup that pays tribute to Madonna, Michael Jackson and others. It’s quite a rebirth for Aguilera as she gets set to unleash Bionic , her first studio album since 2006. And, on an otherwise sleepy Friday afternoon, the video has been burning up the Web. “I just love it,” says MTV reader dvnovert. “Christina is a pop-cultural reflection of the world. She breathes in culture just like all of us, but expels [it in] a deliciously fresh and exciting and superior way to all that have come before and all who have come since. Christina is the one to beat: beauty, brains, rhythm, voice and charisma to boot!” Many fans have noted similarities between the video and recent efforts from Lady Gaga. Reader Mark Anthony Sanchez, for one, views Aguilera as the true artistic trailblazer. “I love the direction she is taking her music,” he writes. “Since her start she was doing her own thing and not caring what anybody says. This woman has been around 10-plus years and for anybody to pin her against Gaga is seriously dumb. They are their own person and do their own thing.” MTV reader Rbearcuub agrees, writing, “You cannot even compare them. What do they have in common? Music! Gaga at least sings, unlike [Britney] Spears in concert. But she has her lane and Xtina has her own damn highway.” Comparisons aside, some folks simply weren’t digging the video. “Christina used to give videos that were fresh and edgy with meaning and integrity,” wrote reader Ericstar. “This oversexed video reveals a huge awareness among her people that she is now competing on the same platform as Gaga. The video lacks depth and does no more than try to prove that Christina is more advanced than the new top female in her arena. She’s relying strictly on fetish to do it. If Christina disagrees with the comparisons and feels like Gaga has borrowed one too many pages from her book, she ought to be confident enough to challenge herself and step out in a new direction.” But as most fans realize, that’s exactly what she already is doing. “I think what Christina did was amazing,” reader Marco wrote. “I love her video and I can’t wait to have Bionic . You rock Christina, you are the best.” What do you think of Christina’s new video? Let us know in the comments below! The aftermath of a car-free experiment

Kurt Hoelting’s The Circumference of Home is less remarkable as a memoir of the author’s radically car-free year than it is as perspective on his return to “civilization.” A conversation with Hoelting as his book hits the shelves reveals that his take-away may be more practical and far less radical than a year of limiting his movement to a 60-mile radius by bicycle, kayak and foot. “I am using my car again, but a lot less than I did before,” he admits. “I certainly better understand the transportation alternatives, and a much greater willingness to use them. I travel now by bicycle or public transportation whenever it is a reasonable alternative, and my definition of what constitutes a ‘reasonable alternative’ is much enlarged. “It is difficult to make use of alternatives when you don’t know they are there, and especially if you are not open to them to begin with.” The commercial fisherman, wilderness guide and meditation teacher has once again resumed travel outside his immediate home region. “I drive a Prius, so using the most efficient technology available also plays into the fomula in an important way,” he notes. “And when I do use a car, I carpool as much as possible.” “… Apart from a family emergency, I have maintained my commitment to not flying on jets, which are the biggest source of personal carbon emissions for people who travel a lot, dwarfing the emissions from the use of our cars,” he continues. “A single flight to Europe from Seattle, for example, is responsible for roughly the equivalent emissions (per passenger) or driving an SUV for six months, or a hybrid car for a full year. When I travel to Alaska now for my summer guiding season with Inside Passages, I take the ferry from Bellingham both ways rather than flying. When I travel east, I take the train and use the time for work en route. It is not a trip I can realistically take very often, so I don’t travel outside the region as much as before, and I try to cluster my engagements when I do.” Ultimately, Hoelting reports the changes to his travel patterns were much easier than he had anticipated. The real benefit, he adds, is an increased sense of engagement and belonging within his own home region —”an extraordinary opportunity to wake up to the richness of what is right on the ground beneath our feet.” Glossary: Hybrid fuel technology , Emissions

How sweet the taste of chocolate lip balms

Three things to know about chocolate: Buying organic or fair trade chocolate ensures you are not contributing to child slavery and unfair labor practices . Mainstream chocolate makers haven’t quite caught up with fair trade sourcing yet (although some progress is being made ). You can savor the taste and smell of organic chocolate all day long with Eco Lips’ new line of Dagoba organic chocolate lip balms. I’m not big on flavored lip products, but as an advocate for fair trade and organic chocolate, I felt compelled to report on this important new development (ahem) in the world of chocolate lip balms. Eco Lips , a company known for its certified organic lip balms, has collaborated with Dagoba Organic Chocolate to create three lip balms that soothe your lips with organic ingredients while soothing your senses with the taste and smell of chocolate. Organic cocoa in your lip balm? If that sounds a little odd to you, you’re not alone. The new balms are a little too sweet for my own taste, personally—but the rest of my family thinks the review samples we tried are just fine, thank you very much. And there’s no denying these balms moisturize and heal chapped lips like champs. The new line comes in three flavors: roseberry (raspberry, rosehips and dark chocolate—my personal favorite and the most chocolatey); mint (a brisk mix of mint, rosemary and dark chocolate); and lavender (lavender, blueberry and dark chocolate). One of them will surely be the balm for your chocolate-craving soul—and lips. (Photo credit: Eco Lips ) Glossary: Organic , Fair trade , Fair wage , Sustainable
