James Cameron Admits Some ‘Avatar’ Footage Will Never Be Released

‘There are things you will never see,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner James Cameron Photo: MTV News The re-release of the biggest movie in history is just one day away! For the fans who haven’t decided whether to make the trek to theaters to see the nine extra minutes James Cameron and crew added to “Avatar,” we have some news about the impending release of the film’s DVD and Blu-ray editions straight from the source. When MTV News caught up with Cameron recently to discuss film’s re-release, we asked if fans will ever get to see everything via bonus features, extended cuts, etc. “There are things you will never see,” Cameron admitted. “But there’s a whole lot of stuff that will definitely satisfy the appetite of even the most hard-core fan in a big box-set DVD that we’re actually preparing right now.” In addition to preparing the film for the re-release, Cameron said his team is also prepping the special-edition DVD and Blu-ray versions. “It’s all happening at the same time, because the deadline for mass-producing stuff for the Christmas marketplace is pretty much now anyway,” he said. “The re-release that we’re doing now with the nine additional minutes is carefully architected for the theatrical experience. But we have more extended-play versions of the film or an extended version of the film that will be available in the Blu-ray, and there will be a whole bunch of supplemental stuff with about 45 minutes of deleted material.” Cameron explained that the reason fans won’t ever get all of “Avatar” comes down to money. “We got the budget to finish this nine minutes, and we got the budget to finish the 16-minute longer version [the special extended edition], and then beyond that, it didn’t make sense to finish all the extra CG and digital effects.” Will you go see the re-release of “Avatar” for the nine extra minutes or wait for the DVD and Blu-ray versions? Will Forte Leaves ‘Saturday Night Live’

Comedian is out after eight seasons on the sketch-comedy show, Forte’s rep confirms. By Mawuse Ziegbe Will Forte performs in “The Falconer” skit on “Saturday Night Live” Photo: Dana Edelson/ NBC Will Forte is leaving his gig as a “Saturday Night Live” castmember after bringing the laughs for eight seasons on NBC’s late-night sketch-comedy show. The comedian’s rep confirmed Forte’s exit to MTV News. “After eight great seasons, Will has made the decision to move on from SNL to pursue new opportunities,” his rep said in a statement. “He is eternally grateful to [executive producer] Lorne [Michaels] and all of the incredible people he worked with over the years.” Forte has played a host of characters throughout his “SNL” career and is perhaps best known for his bumbling action star MacGruber, a thinly-veiled send-up of the ’80s action TV character MacGyver who worked ingenious ways to slip out of sticky situations. A movie version of the popular sketch hit theaters in May and Forte told MTV News that he wasn’t sweating any pressure to live up to “SNL” sketch-turned-silver-screen smashes like “The Blues Brothers” or “Wayne’s World.” “The ‘SNL’ track record is about the same as the movies-in-general track record,” Forte said. “There are a lot of crappy movies out there and a lot of great movies. Sure, there has been some ‘SNL’-based movies that have sucked; there have been some great ones.” While Forte built upon the winning formula of MacGruber, he also said he wasn’t concerned with slavishly replicating the minutes-long sketch on the big screen. Instead, the former television producer and writer, who honed his comedic chops behind the scenes on shows such as “3rd Rock From the Sun,” was more focused on creating a hilarious experience for theatergoers. “We weren’t worried about the ‘SNL’ aspect of the movie,” Forte said. “We just tried to make the best movie we could.” What are some of your favorite memories of Will Forte on “SNL?” Let us know in the comments below!

‘Machete’ Stars Pick Their Badass Allies

Jessica Alba goes with ‘genius and amazing’ director Robert Rodriguez, along with co-star Michelle Rodriguez. By Kara Warner Jessica Alba, Danny Trejo, Michelle Rodriguez and Robert Rodriguez at the “Machete” premiere Photo: Kevin Winter/ Getty Images Those familiar with the trailer for Robert Rodriguez’s new film “Machete” — which started out as a fake preview in “Grindhouse” and eventually inspired the full-length feature — know to expect high-octane action sequences, blood and, thanks to Jessica Alba and Michelle Rodriguez, badass babes. Wednesday night’s special screening of the anticipated “Mexploitation” flick kept up with the high-octane and badass aspects, as Rodriguez and his cast arrived in pimped-out low-riders to the Orpheum Theatre in downtown L.A. Given the rebellious and revolutionary nature of Machete the character, and his trajectory in the film, we asked the stars who they would choose as an ally in a revolution. Don Johnson went with a founding father and a famous rebel. “I like George Washington,” Johnson said. “He did a good job. Fidel [Castro], he did a good job.” Johnson also singled out Machete himself, Danny Trejo. “He’s good with a knife,” he said. “Weird huh?” Trejo went a different route: with his leading ladies. “Jessica Alba or Michelle Rodriguez,” he said, highlighting the ladies’ feisty fighting skills. “In this movie, they’re both badasses. They’re both bad-gorgeous-asses.” Alba also picked a leading lady as her ally. “Michelle [Rodriguez]!” she said. “[Michelle’s character in the movie] and Robert Rodriguez,” she added, as her director joined in the interview. “Because he’s a genius and he’s amazing.” (Alba also revealed that Rodriguez is an amazing cook, which enhances his ally appeal.) “I’d have to say Danny [Trejo],” Rodriguez said. “You know why? Because he’s got loyalty in his eyes. He looks like the kind of guy that will take survival seriously, protection seriously, love seriously.” Cheech Marin agreed: “Danny Trejo, man, he’s the baddest. He’s great in this movie.” There you have it. Choice revolution ally: Danny Trejo. Who would you want to be by your side in a revolution? Leave your ideas in the comments! Blue Power Ranger Reveals He Quit Show ‘Over Gay Insults’

David Yost, who played nerdy triceratops commander Billy on the ’90s kids show Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers , revealed that he left the series because he was “called ‘f*ggot’ one too many times [by the show’s] creators, producers, writers, directors.” He added that he became “worried that I might take my own life.” Sad. Arguably, if Yost had come out with this confessional during the run of the show, some of Rita Repulsa’s most destructive anti-gay initiatives could have been derailed. [ TMZ ]

New Piranha 3D Video is Not Afraid to Take on the Oscars, After All

Last week, when a fairly funny “For Your Consideration” ad for Piranha 3D hit the internet and then promptly had several of its jokes snipped, some speculated that the Weinstein Co. was afraid of Oscar blowback (thought I’m guessing they realized the four-minute clip was just too damn long?). Consider this the company’s rejoinder, then: a new Piranha viral video where Ving Rhames wins a Best Actor Oscar for the film, makes out with Elisabeth Shue, and throws shoes at Brad Pitt. Enjoy!

Lindsay Lohan’s ‘Machete’ Castmates Wish Her Well

Jessica Alba and director Robert Rodriguez praise the actress’ performance, a day after her release from rehab. By Kara Warner Jessica Alba Photo: MTV News LOS ANGELES — Given the fact that Lindsay Lohan was released from rehab just one day before a special screening of her new film “Machete,” the odds of her attending the event were slim. Nevertheless, her co-stars lamented her absence and had wonderful well-wishes for the troubled actress. Everyone from Don Johnson to the film’s leading man, Danny Trejo, to Cheech Marin and Michelle Rodriguez all had glowing praise for Lohan, who plays the rebellious daughter of a powerful senator’s aide. Jessica Alba, who plays a saucy immigration officer, was excited for people to see Lohan onscreen again. “She’s so good in this movie,” Alba said emphatically. “I can’t wait for people to see [her in] it.” “Machete” director Robert Rodriguez agreed. “She’s awesome in the movie,” he said, adding that when audiences see Lohan back in action, on her acting game, they’ll remember why they paid attention to her in the first place. “That’s what they’ll see: the actress behind all that paparazzi nonsense that follows her and won’t leave her alone,” he said. “They’ll get to see her and say, ‘Oh, that’s why we follow her around.’ ” After reporting to the Century Regional Detention Center on July 20 for her 90-day jail sentence, Lohan was released from rehab after less than two full weeks in custody thanks to good behavior and chronic overcrowding at the facility. She went straight from jail to the UCLA Medical Center on August 2 to begin the rehab phase of her sentence for a probation violation from a 2007 DUI conviction. Lohan is said to be going back to work on her Linda Lovelace biopic, “Inferno,” and will continue to receive care on an outpatient basis. Miley Cyrus And Liam Hemsworth Split

Disney star and Australian actor have parted ways, Hemsworth’s rep confirms. By Mawuse Ziegbe Liam Hemsworth and Miley Cyrus Photo: Jamie McCarthy/ Getty Images Miley Cyrus is ending the summer as a single lady. The teen queen has split from her boyfriend Liam Hemsworth after more than a year of dating. Hemsworth’s PR representative confirmed the “Can’t Be Tamed” singer and her beefy Australian beau have officially called it quits. “It’s true,” the actor’s rep told RadarOnline.com . The news comes after reports that the couple were getting serious. According to Radar, Cyrus recently purchased a $3.4 million house, not far from her parents’ California home, where Hemsworth was a frequent guest. Hemsworth and Cyrus struck up a romance after meeting on the film set of “The Last Song” in 2009. The pop star said earlier this year that although she wasn’t on the lookout for a boyfriend, Hemsworth won her over with his gentlemanly charm. “I kind of just wanted to focus on my work. I tend to hide behind my work sometimes,” Cyrus said on “Ellen” in March. “But I met him, and he opened the door for me, and I was like, I have been in L.A. for three years and I don’t think any guy has actually opened the door for me. It wasn’t that he wanted the job. That’s just who he is. I was like, ‘Wow, that is super-impressive.’ I actually turned to the director and said, ‘He’s got the job.’ He’s hot and he opened the door. Excellent.” Cyrus, who dropped her latest album, Can’t Be Tamed, in June, said that much of the LP was inspired by her romance with Hemsworth. “There are a lot of songs that are about Liam,” Cyrus told MTV News when Tamed was released. “I tell him every one’s about him,” she quipped. Can Lindsay Lohan Make A Comeback?

‘She’ll either be forgotten, she’ll be dead, tragically, or she’ll have an Academy Award,’ one PR expert tells MTV News. By Gil Kaufman Lindsay Lohan Photo: OutOfSightMedia/ Getty Images Troubled actress Lindsay Lohan has completed her jail term (13 of 90 days) and, on Tuesday, her court-ordered stint at an inpatient rehab facility (23 of 90 days). So now that she’s back on the outside, can the onetime rising Hollywood starlet get her career groove back? Though the annals of Tinseltown are littered with stories of crackups that actors and actresses were unable to bounce back from, Lohan need look no further than Oscar winner Robert Downey Jr. for proof that once-left-for-dead careers trashed by drugs and erratic behavior can indeed be revived and thrive once again.

Justin Bieber Gives Fans A Chance To Be In His 3-D Movie

Beliebers can upload a video of themselves singing ‘That Should Be Me’ to get in the film. By Kara Warner Justin Bieber Photo: Frederick Breedon/ Getty Images Attention Justin Bieber fans (you might want to sit down while reading this, if you haven’t already seen the news on Bieber’s Twitter account): You have an opportunity to be in his new 3-D movie! That’s right, Justin Bieber and director Jon Chu made the announcement via Twitter on Tuesday (August 24) that they are hosting a 24-hour casting call for all the Beliebers out there to be in their new concert extravaganza. All it takes is a visit to the website BieberFever.com/movie . According to the site, fans have an opportunity to “be a part” of the movie, which could mean any number of things, as the details in the announcement are few (we recommend a thorough perusal of Paramount Pictures’ “terms of use” statement for further explanation before submission). To be considered, fans must submit a home video of themselves singing along to Bieber’s “That Should Be Me” or they should “Show us how ‘U Smile’ ” by sending in a photo or video. When Chu and Bieber made the Twitter-nouncement on Tuesday afternoon, Bieber followed up his initial tweet with an update that fans had already overwhelmed the website’s server. “Sorry u guys crashed the server!!” he tweeted. “Haha. It’s back up now!! Get in MY MOVIE!!! U got less than 24 hours!!” When MTV News caught up with Chu recently (who also directed “Step-Up 3-D”), he said the Bieber movie will be for everyone — not just his devoted fans. “[It’s] a movie for his fans, a movie for people who don’t know him, and we’re gonna tell the underdog story of where he came from,” Chu said. “There’s not going to be acted-out scenes and I can’t talk about the rest. It’s not your typical concert film and it’s not going to be a biopic … but it is about his life. I think it’s more of a documentary. We’re going to figure it out as we go.” As for how much of it will be in 3-D, he said, “You’ll have to see it. We’re figuring that out now.” The Justin Bieber 3-D movie is set to open on Valentine’s Day weekend. Will you submit a video to be in Bieber’s movie? Let us know in the comments! Angelina Jolie Set To Write, Direct Bosnian War Film

‘The film is a love story, not a political statement,’ says actress, who will not appear in movie. By Jocelyn Vena Angelina Jolie Photo: Toni Passig/ WireImage Angelina Jolie is taking her act behind the scenes for her latest project. Jolie will write, produce and direct a film set during the Bosnian War in the early ’90s. She is working on the flick with GK Films , which made the announcement on its website. The film, about a Bosnian woman and a Serbian military man who fall in love during the war, when the Bosniaks and Serbs were fighting each other, will serve as Jolie’s feature directorial debut, according to The Hollywood Reporter. GK Films says that actors of “various ethnicities from the region of the former Yugoslavia” will be cast. Jolie will not be in the film, and filming is expected to take place this fall, with no locations being announced due to security concerns. The Oscar winner, who serves as Goodwill Ambassador for the office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees and frequently makes trips to the area, visited Sarajevo last weekend to discuss the refugee situation with some of the country’s leaders. “The film is a love story, not a political statement,” Jolie said in a statement released by the UNHCR during her visit to the region last week. “I would like to involve as many local people as possible and learn as much as I can.” GK Films produced her upcoming Johnny Depp co-starring release, “The Tourist,” set to hit theaters in December. She is also slated to star in Tim Burton’s “Sleeping Beauty” as the film’s evil queen, Maleficent, and will assume the title role in “Cleopatra.” For breaking news, celebrity columns, humor and more — updated around the clock — visit MTVMoviesBlog.com .
