We Need To Talk About John Travolta & Olivia Newton-John’s New Christmas Video (With Lyrics)

Hark! Christmas came early today, and in the form of a song delivered from on high by former Grease buddies and rockin’ Xmas angels John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John . In the video for the first holiday jam from their new joint album This Christmas , Travolta and O N-J hug and line-dance and drink hot cocoa while crying during It’s A Wonderful Life , which is an actual line in the song and OH MY GOD I can’t look away so just watch it now. (I took the liberty of transcribing the lyrics below. You’re welcome.) “I Think You Might Like It,” the only original tune on the duo’s new yuletide album, was penned by songwriter/Newton-John producer John Farrar , who wrote the chart-topping Grease duet “You’re The One That I Want,” along with the underappreciated power-pining ballad “Hopelessly Devoted To You” and Newton-John’s Xanadu jam “Magic.” In other words, Farrar is a proven musical maestro and it’s only a matter of time before “I Think You Might Like It” cheeses its way into your stone-cold hearts. Promoting the album on Ellen , Travolta revealed another tidbit about his personal relationship with Christmas: He really loves hot cocoa. “It represents winter wonderlands, it represents Christmas,” he said, which explains why he COLLECTS HOT COCOA POWDER FROM DIFFERENT COUNTRIES . “I’ve collected various types of cocoa from around the world,” he said, offering up a sniff of Brazilian cocoa powder to demonstrate the “hint of cinnamon and pepper” that differentiates it from cocoa from Germany, Australia and so on. (Travolta will donate his artist proceeds to the Jett Travolta Foundation, named after his late son, while Newton-John’s portion will go to her own Olivia Newton-John Cancer & Wellness Centre , so I’ll allow him this not strange at all hot cocoa fixation.) Now, the video. Prepare yourself for three glorious minutes of, in order: – John Travolta flying his airplane home to Newton-John, because he’s a pilot – John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John toe-tapping in unison with their thumbs in their belt loops – A John Travolta soul patch. A JOHN TRAVOLTA SOUL PATCH! – Olivia Newton-John “driving” with “Christmas presents” propped oh-so-naturally in the passenger seat – More line-dancing – THIS: – John Travolta and Olivia Newton-John singin’ about “makin’ love all night” and cryin’ while his actual IRL wife Kelly Preston walks into what looks like the lobby of an Alamo Rent-a-Car with a baby on her hip and whoa , DEEP THOUGHT: Is this song really about polygamy? Is the “it” in question that she might like his “special” holiday package, WINK WINK?? Discuss . – Troops coming home from deployment for the holidays, because of course – More line-dancing – The saddest happy pity hug of all time Everybody now! Sing along all month-long! Your friends and family and everyone within earshot will love you for it, trust me. **Some lyrics are incomplete because I couldn’t make them out through JT & ON-J’s cheer-tastic warbling. So help a sister out in the comments. “I Think You Might Like It” Here comes my hometown So good to get my wheels down I’m comin’ home toni-i-i-ight Here comes that magical smell of Christmas Eve There’s nothin’ you can do-oo But wearing your heart on your sleeve My mind is go-in’ A little crazy knowin’ You’re comin’ home toni-i-i-ight I can’t help smilin’ to strangers on my street I’m singing to myself, tripping over my own feet I’m comin’ ho-ome CHORUS: I’ve got a little plan for you, I think you might like it Let’s do the little dance we do, I think you might like it The we’re gonna hide away, makin’ love all night We can cry tomorrow watching It’s a Wonderful Life ( Line-dancing interlude ) Ooooo-ooo-oooh, I think you might like it Oh baby I kinda like So many gonna (unintelligible) You’re comin’ home toni-i-i-ight Your mama sings sweetly, “Do You Hear What I Hear?” But in a little while she’ll be swinging from a chandelier No stopping Aunt Louise Ticklin’ the ivories I’m comin’ home toni-i-i-ight Whole town’s gonna be there It will be a squeeze You’d better put your sleigh in a holdin’ pattern, Santa please I’m comin’ ho-ome CHORUS: I’ve got a little plan for you, I think you might like it Let’s do the little dance we do, I think you might like it Then we’re gonna hide away, makin’ love all night We can cry tomorrow watching It’s A Wonderful Life I’ve got a little plan for you ( I like it ) Let’s do the little dance we do ( I like it ) Then we’re gonna hide away, making love all night Unison: And we can cry tomorrow watching It’s a Wonderful Life Let’s do the little dance we do I think you mi-ight like it (Spoken): I like it MERRY CHRISTMAS, WORLD! Jackman, Hathaway & Co-Stars Are Masters Of The House At London ‘Les Misérables’ Premiere

Fans stormed London’s Leicester Square to join the revolution on Wednesday night: the world premiere of   Les Misérables . The barricades were up, not to hold back National Guardsmen but to restrain fans who who turned up to salute the movie’s lead  Hugh Jackman , Londoner (and the movie’s Marius), Eddie Redmayne  and the rest of the main cast.  Lovely Ladies Anne Hathaway , Amanda Seyfried and   Samantha Barks ,who has played Eponine both on stage and, now, on screen, were all smiles as they stalked the red carpet, the dark days of their Parisian revolt a distant dream. Master of the House, director Tom Hooper , accompanied comrade and legendary theater producer Sir Cameron MacKintoshto the premiere, as well as Russell Crowe , who portrays the saga’s relentless Inspector Javert. The cast confirmed that the movie’s multi-camera, live-recorded singing made filming more laborious than usual, at times resulting in dozens of takes. Some malfunctioning mechanical butterflies didn’t help either. Redmayne said that while he and Amanda Seyfried were filming their “A Heart Full of Love” duet, “Tom became obsessed with the stunt butterflies. There were moments where Amanda and I would do these incredibly intense takes of newfound love, and Tom would say, ‘Yeah, it was great, but the butterflies…'” Barks recalled enduring many sodden takes of singing ” On My Own ” in the rain. “There was a big rain machine which followed me around for a lot of the film. Sometimes I’d arrive on set and they’d have to hose me down,” she recalled. “After the rain, you get so cold, your teeth start to chatter and they say, ‘We’re picking up on a weird sound, what’s that?’ So I’d chatter, ‘It’s my teeth!’” When Hooper wasn’t preoccupied with the butterflies, he devoted plenty of attention to the rain machine, presumably from his eternally dry director’s chair, “The geek in me enjoyed having to come up with the solution of how to do silent rain” so it wouldn’t interfere with the live singing,  the director explained, adding: “By the end the rain was quiet.”  Hooper said it took “six months of researching to do rain with with no noise” and after finally achieving “our dream,” as he put it, “we had to put the rain sound back in during the sound mixing.” After their near-freezing stint on the red carpet, all guests stepped inside the warm sanctuary of the Leicester Square Odeon for the movie, after which Hooper invited everybody to drink with him in North London, at Camden’s Roundhouse until late. Dredd, White & Blue? Citizens Petition White House For Death Star, Street Judges & Master Chief Statue

We the People of the United States…are some weird dudes.  A clever but clearly tongue-in-cheek petition to build a Star Wars -style Death Star isn’t the only petition that’s been started on the Obama administration’s much-debated We The People website.  That’s the place where ordinary citizens can log in and lobby for change. When a petition registered on the site gets 25,000 signatures, the administration issues an official response to it, which, you might guess, means that there are quite a few wackadoo proposals on the site. In addition to the Death Star proposal, which needs more than 21,000 signatures before its Dec. 14 deadline, there is also a petition started by “Sean M” of San Francisco that seeks to establish a “new legal system of motorcycle riding ‘Judges’ who serve as police, judge, jury, and executioner all in one.” If you saw Dredd 3D   or are a fan of Judge Dredd comics, you’ll get the reference. If you’re like me, you’ll also start thinking of Karl Urban riding in formation with leather-clad Supreme Court Justices Antonin Scalia and Ruth Bader Ginsburg who also know how to scowl effectively. And for you gamer fans, nathan p of Columbus, Ohio has petitioned the administration to build a statue of Halo hero   Master Chief on the White House lawn, noting:  “He deserves more praise for what he has done.” Compared to those last two petitions, the Death Star proposal at least has some satirical bite, nothing that its construction will “spur job creation…and strengthen our national defense.” It could also boost Disney’s stock. It will be interesting to see if any of these petitions makes their 25,000-signature deadlines, which all fall at the end of next week. As of this posting, the Master Chief   statute proposal is in the lead with more than 4,700 signatures, and Halo fans are a passionate breed.  This could get interesting. ‘2016 Obama’s America’ Filmmakers Cry Oscar Bias

The Oscar-winning producer of this year’s anti-Obama doc 2016 Obama’s America is calling foul after the Academy released its Documentary Shortlist for Oscar consideration earlier this week. [ Related: Academy Names 15 As Best Documentary Oscar Contenders; ‘Central Park Five’ Snubbed ] Gerald Molen, who produced 1994’s Schindler’s List (with Steven Spielberg and Branko Lustig) won the Academy Award for Best Picture said political bias is to blame for 2016 not making the cut of 15 titles to advance to the next round. Directed by Dinesh D’Souza, the pic took in a cool $33.44 million domestically, earning more at the box office than the 15 who did advance to Oscar-nomination eligibility combined. Molen, however, said D’Souza believed the Academy – which is criticized by conservatives of being largely liberally biased – might snub the doc. “Dinesh warned me this might happen,” Molen said with a laugh, according to THR . “The action confirms my opinion that the bias against anything from a conservative point of view is dead on arrival in Hollywood circles. The film’s outstanding success means that America went to see the documentary in spite of how Hollywood feels about it.” 2016 Obama’s America is not the only box office cash-cow that didn’t make the short list for 2012. Dan Cutforth and Jane Lipsitz’s Katy Perry: Part of Me did not join the fifteen. Though not quite as successful as 2016 , the Katy Perry movie did gross over $25.3 million domestically (and over $32 million worldwide). Both D’Souza’s 2016 and Michael Moore’s 2004 not-so-subtle anti-Bush smash Fahrenheit 9/11 may indicate an emerging cinematic convention: Anti-presidential incumbent non-fictions turn out the crowds, but not the Oscar nominations. Fahrenheit outstripped 2016 at the box office, taking in over $119 million in 2004 dollars and it even scored the Cannes Palme d’Or that year. But it did not receive an Oscar nomination. Still, the Oscar snub has caught the eire of its filmmakers and they’re not above throwing a bit of light-hearted shade to some of those films that did make the list this week. “I want to thank the Academy for not nominating our film,” D’Souza said. “By ignoring 2016, the top-performing box-office hit of 2012, and pretending that films like  Searching for Sugar Man  and  This Is Not a Film  are more deserving of an Oscar, our friends in Hollywood have removed any doubt average Americans may have had that liberal political ideology, not excellence, is the true standard of what receives awards.” [ Source: THR ]

Richard Branson’s ‘Breaking The Taboo’ Aims To Stop The War On Drugs

Aviation and music tycoon Sir Richard Branson and his son Sam Branson are no fans of the War on Drugs and they’re hoping a new film that they launched on YouTube will do for their cause what An Inconvenient Truth did for the issue of global warming. Produced through the younger Branson’s production company, Sundog Pictures, Breaking the Taboo features a host of notables including former U.S. Presidents Bill Clinton and Jimmy Carter and Colombian President Juan Manuel Santos, other former world leaders as well as experts and other household names in a doc hoping to change hearts and minds about the global war on drugs. Clinton is shown in the trailer saying the War on Drugs, which has cost billions and jailed thousands in the U.S. alone, “hasn’t worked.” Morgan Freeman narrates the English version of the pic, the trailer of which opens with Richard Nixon’s proclamation ushering in the U.S. War on Drugs. Mexican actor Gael Garcia Bernal narrates the Spanish version of the film, which has its trailer available on YouTube. The site indicated the full-length Breaking the Taboo will bow December 7th. “I am hoping in the same way that Al Gore’s film An Inconvenient Truth opened people’s eyes to global warming issues…, Branson told The Guardian . This film will open people’s eyes on the war on drugs and the failed war on drugs and make it easier for people who want to be brave and do something about it.” Sam Branson said the film will head to YouTube because of its “potential to reach millions. Both Branson look to countries such as Portugal and Spain where drug users receive treatment as opposed to jail time as providing an example. Sir Richard calls the legalization of marijuana as “inevitable” and added that most in power secretly agree with him. “I have hardly ever come across a politician that won’t say – off the record – what needs to be done…in the end they just need to be brave.” Washington and Colorado voted to legalize marijuana in the most recent election and the U.N. general assembly voted to hold a special session on drugs in 2016. Obama is also seen in the film before being elected saying that a change is needed, though he has held the line on decriminalization earlier this year. “We would be hopeful that in a second term Obama intends at the very least to start treating drugs as a healthcare problem, not a criminal problem,” said Sir Richard Branson. Addiction, Consequence, Redemption: Chris Nolan & Co. Talk ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ On Blu-Ray

“Why do we fall, Bruce? So we can learn to pick ourselves up.” Was The Dark Knight Rises the finale that Batman deserved and needed? On the new TDKR DVD/Blu-ray release (on shelves today), Christopher Nolan and his collaborators wax poetic about their Batman saga and shed light on what made Bruce Wayne’s rise, fall, and redemption such compelling material. “Every film has to be driven by a story,” says Nolan in the bonus feature “The Journey of Bruce Wayne” in which he offers up his personal take on the Batman mythos along with brother/screenwriter Jonathan Nolan, David S. Goyer, Christian Bale, and Hans Zimmer. “And story is driven by people, by characters, by the human face. What we recognize in it, what we’re attracted to, what we hope for, for that character — that relatability — is what drew me to Bruce Wayne’s story.” Nolan and his co-writers speak of Batman/Bruce Wayne in clinical terms: He’s depressed, addicted, and traumatized as the events of Batman Begins and moreso The Dark Knight give way to the confrontations of The Dark Knight Rises . “We tried to treat Batman – the Batman costume, the Batman personality — as if it were an addiction,” said Goyer. “He’s addicted to it; he’s addicted to the anger, that he’s addicted to the violence, that he’s addicted to the suit. It’s all he really lives for, how he was able to channel his anger and his energy is by being Batman and as long as there was something to push against he had a reason for existing, and now that the streets are relatively crime free he doesn’t have anything to push against, so he doesn’t have a purpose.” Bale puts it another way: “He’s not the most healthy of individuals.” The imperative for Nolan & Co.’s game-changing approach to superhero stories was, according to Jonathan Nolan, “being conscious of never straying too far from these being films about a man. There’s a city, there’s a rogue’s gallery, there are some amazing, compelling characters — but it’s really the story of a guy who decided to do something very unconventional, illegal, dangerous, out of a somewhat broken sense of righteousness and justice.” Behind-the-scenes looks abound on Warner Bros.’ comprehensive home video release, from a franchise-spanning Batmobile featurette to the plethora of making-of pieces that peel back the layers on the technical orchestration that went into TDKR ‘s explosive, epic production. But if you want to get to the heart of Nolan’s Batman — and the series that, starting with Batman Begins , ushered in a new era for the Caped Crusader and comic book movies for cinephiles and fanboys alike – this is the must-watch of the batch. As much as the bombast and drama of TDKR makes for a standalone watch, it was intended to fulfill a specific purpose: To question all that came before, and round out the complete three-film journey of its hero. “For the ending of The Dark Knight to have the validity of gravity it should have,” says Nolan, “it is important to have The Dark Knight Rises .” Read more on The Dark Knight Rises , on DVD/Blu-ray today. Time Out! No Way Is ‘Cloud Atlas’ The Worst Movie Of 2012

Here’s an easy formula to get attention for your Worst Movies of 2012 list. Take the unfathomable big-budget box-office failure that’s likely to top a lot of these year-end thumbsuckers — and make it number two. Next, single out an ambitious film by a trio of filmmakers with a passionate following. Put it at the top (or is it the bottom?) of your list and wait for their fans to scream. That’s what Time magazine , in the role of media Old Georgie,  has done with its “Top 10 Worst Films” list for the year.  Writer Mary Pols chose the Wachowskis and Tom Tykwer’ s collaboration  Cloud Atlas as the year’s stinkiest over Disney’s summer bomb John Carter. And I’m calling bullshit. Before I explain, take a look at Pols’ entire list: 10. One For The Money 9. T he Odd Life Of Timothy Green  8. What To Expect When You’re Expecting  7. Alex Cross  6. The Lorax  5. This Means War 4. Abraham Lincoln: Vampire Hunter 3. Hyde Park on Hudson 2. John Carter 1. Cloud Atlas Most of those movies are largely formulaic and, in some cases, cynical attempts to put asses in seats. They should be on the list, particularly the aptly named One For The Money and  What to Expect When Your Expecting,  which would have tied for worst movie had I been doing the ranking. (Even though Jennifer Lopez is the mother of twins in real life, I cannot summon the suspension of disbelief to buy her as a parent in the movies.) Yes, Cloud Atlas is an unwieldy, problematic movie that could have used a good streamlining in terms of the sheer number of  stories that were adapted from David Mitchell’s novel, but a film this ambitious — and unabashedly spiritual at its core — does not deserve to be on a list of the year’s worst. Movieline’s chief critic Alison Willmore explained it beautifully in her review: Cloud Atlas  strives continually for transcendence and only sometimes grasps it, but the sincerity with which it pursues the emotion and the very idea of the reverberating impact selfless actions can have is quite moving. It’s rare, these days, to see a movie declare its aims for greatness so openly and without a leaden sense of self-importance. And though the film doesn’t achieve all of its goals, it does offer an indelibly powerful vision of a throughline from the past to today and on through the end of things, that expresses faith in the ability of people to overcome animalism. It’s spiritual but entirely humanistic, and salvation, when it comes, arrives from within or from other people — an outrageous, silly and beautiful ode to the better nature of mankind. You won’t see anyone writing that about What to Expect When You’re Expecting.  [Time] Follow Frank DiGiacomo on Twitter.  Follow Movieline on Twitter.

BREAKING NUDES: In a growing skin-troversy, an interview Leslie Mann gave to DP/30 has surfaced in which she purports that This is 40 (2012) was her nude debut. 26-minutes into the clip she confirms that she has never done nudity in a movie before, but she did get “ vulnerable ” for this film and thought it was “ helpful to be in that state ”. Not exactly a definitive answer and no mention of possible postproduction alterations, but make of it what you will. See the video after the jump!
