‘Thor’ Star Chris Hemsworth Says There’s ‘Tension’ In ‘Avengers’

‘You’ve got big egos on these superheroes,’ he tells MTV News. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Hemsworth Photo: MTV News All of MTV News’ recent interactions with Chris Hemsworth, a.k.a. the man about to grace movie screens as the God of Thunder in “Thor,” have naturally been very focused on the highly anticipated film and all the nerdy details that come with portraying a comic book superhero. We love everything “Thor,” of course, but since the Norseman will also be appearing in the possibly even more anticipated and mysterious “Avengers” movie , we can’t help but pester everyone in the high-profile cast about the film, which just started production . So when we caught up with Hemsworth recently to expand on our ever-growing database of “Thor” information, we prodded the Aussie for some “Avengers” details. Although he couldn’t give us much, he seemed excited that his onscreen brother Loki (played by Tom Hiddleston) will be joining him on set, as well as the potential for a superhero smackdown. “[It’s great] to have my brother there. Even if we don’t get along,” Hemsworth joked. “[Hiddleston] is fantastic. [He gave] an incredible, incredible performance in the film, and he’s going to do the same in this one.” With regard to how all those superheroes will be interacting, particularly Tony Stark, Hemsworth said the environment will be tense. “There’s certainly some tension. You’ve got big egos on these superheroes,” he said. “None of them want to be told what to do or form an alliance with these people who they don’t understand anything about,” he said. “In the comic books, you see that it’s not an easy mix; that’s definitely in [the movie].” When asked if we’ll see the ensemble cast (Samuel L. Jackson, Clark Gregg, Scarlett Johansson, Chris Evans, Robert Downey Jr., Mark Ruffalo, Jeremy Renner, Hemsworth and Hiddleston) come to blows, Hemsworth surprised us with an answer in the affirmative. “Well, you’d want it, wouldn’t you? Otherwise, why are we all there? I think it would be safe to say you can expect something like that,” he said. ‘Snow White’ Director Tarsem Singh Talks Costumes, Lily Collins

‘Everything’s in snow, but the costumes are very colorful,’ he tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Lily Collins Photo: John Shearer/ WireImage Two cinematic reimaginings of Snow White are currently in the works, but lest you think both are going to turn out more or less the same, simply listen to how director Tarsem Singh conceives of his film’s look . “It’s actually like if you looked at Gaudi’s architecture, based in England, done like a turn-of-the-century Russian film by an Indian guy,” he told MTV News. Right. We’re guessing that the competing Snow White tale — from Rupert Sanders, making his directorial debut after a string of hyper-stylized TV commercials — isn’t going to encroach on Tarsem’s territory, and that’s just the way he wants it. “There’s a brown guy telling you a Snow White tale to white people. Just by definition, when you put different ingredients, you get a different stew,” he said. His yet-untitled film stars Julia Roberts as the evil queen, Armie Hammer (“The Social Network”) as the handsome prince and, after being cast earlier this month, Lily Collins (“The Blind Side”) as Snow White herself. Why Collins, a relative unknown whose profile is on the rise after being cast in the adaptation of the “Mortal Instruments” young adult book series? “Her eyebrows,” Tarsem joked. “I just saw her eyebrows and I said, ‘That’s Snow White.’ ” With the key players in place, the filmmakers are busy building sets and designing costumes. True to Tarsem’s earlier work, like “The Cell” and the forthcoming “Immortals,” the new Snow White film will dress its cast in some eye-popping garb. “Everything’s in snow, but the costumes are very colorful. It’s like no color, then a lot of color,” Tarsem said. “I never know how actors give you all the trust, because the stuff that I make people wear does not look ridiculous — it looks ridiculous. ” Check out everything we’ve got on “Snow White.” For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .

‘Hunger Games’ Experts Weigh In On Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth

‘I think we were a little bit shocked,’ the Hob’s Amanda Belcher tells MTV News. By Amy Wilkinson Josh Hutcherson Photo: Alberto E. Rodriguez/ Getty Images Casting for the most anticipated love triangle since Edward, Bella and Jacob is now complete. On Monday, Lionsgate announced that Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth would star as Peeta Mellark and Gale Hawthorne alongside Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen in the big-screen adaptation of “The Hunger Games.” The news came on the heels of rumors that the two were front-runners among the pack of Hollywood’s young men auditioning for the coveted roles. Yet, despite a bit of early warning, “Hunger Games” fans and experts alike were largely surprised by the casting news. “I think we were a little bit shocked, especially when the rumors first broke last week that Josh and Liam were the front-runners,” said Amanda Belcher of the Hob . “We hadn’t really expected that out of all the people that were listed on the short list of people for both Peeta and Gale.” Fan reactions have ranged from pleased (@The SiennaSkye: “Josh Hutcherson was cast as Peeta Mellark!? YES! They picked a cutie!! (:”) to outraged (@meggiedear: “Worst. Casting. News. Ever. [Especially 4 Gale]. R.I.P. Hunger Games movie”). Yet, Belcher said many initially wary fans have changed their tune since the news first sent the Internet ablaze. “Surprisingly, I feel like when the official news got posted, they’ve come around a little bit,” she said. “There’s still quite a few who say, ‘I’m not going to watch this movie. I’m so upset at this casting.’ Then there’s a lot of them that say, ‘You know what? These aren’t our first choices, and we don’t really like them, but we’re going to put our trust in Lionsgate.’ ” One of the chief concerns among fans seems to be that Hutcherson and Hemsworth don’t closely resemble the characters from the book — an issue that was also raised following Lawrence’s casting. “I have a hard time picturing Josh and Liam as Peeta and Gale, but I want to give them the benefit of the doubt,” said “Hunger Games” Examiner Sara Gundell. Mockingjay.net administrator Kimmy West said most fans stuck on the actors’ looks will most likely get onboard once they see the stars’ chemistry and performances for themselves. “[The actors] have to prove to the fans that they’re the good person for the role. Because the moment that people realize that these actors are perfect in the role, hopefully then all the fans will warm up to them and agree that they are good.” What do you think of the Josh Hutcherson/ Liam Hemsworth casting news? Lil Wayne Hit With Federal Tax Lien

IRS imposed lien on Wayne’s multimillion-dollar Miami home for nonpayment of income taxes. By Alvin Blanco Lil Wayne Photo: Kevin Mazur/ WireImage Lil Wayne’s pockets are about to get a bit lighter, because Uncle Sam wants his fair share. The New Orleans rapper was hit with a federal tax lien to the tune of $5.6 million. According to The Detroit News , the IRS lien, dated March 2 but made official on March 28, was filed in Miami Dade County and notes that Dwayne M. Carter has an unpaid income-tax balance due of $3,351,078 for 2008 and $2,258,956 for 2009. The Miami Beach, Florida, address listed on the lien is for Wayne’s 15,101-square-foot mansion, which is currently on the market for a shade under $13 million. This is not the first time Lil Wayne has had to settle an overdue tax bill . Last year, the Young Money CEO was hit with a lien by the IRS that totaled $1.1 million for income tax years 2004, 2005 and 2007. Wayne, who reportedly paid the $1.1 million he already owed, will want to make sure he takes care of overdue taxes sooner rather than later. Recently, Ja Rule pleaded guilty to tax evasion in a federal court in New Jersey after admitting that he neglected to pay taxes on more than $4 million in income between 2004 and 2006. Already facing two years for attempted gun possession (Lil Weezy was arrested the same day as Ja Rule, resulting in his eight-month incarceration at Rikers Island), the Queens rapper will be sentenced for the tax evasion charges in June as well. Lil Wayne is currently on his I Am Still Music Tour, where he recently received a lap dance from Nicki Minaj during her show. Related Artists Lil Wayne

‘The Hunger Games’ Drafts Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth

Hutcherson will play Peeta, while Hemsworth is cast as Gale, studio announces. By Kara Warner Josh Hutcherson and Liam Hemsworth Photo: Getty Images After months of debate, speculation and rumors , Lionsgate has officially announced casting for the two male leads in the highly-anticipated film, “The Hunger Games.” Josh Hutcherson (“The Kids Are All Right”) will play romantic, reluctant hero Peeta Mellark, and Liam Hemsworth (“The Last Song”) will play brooding boy-next-door Gale Hawthorne. Hutcherson and Hemsworth will star alongside Jennifer Lawrence, who was recently announced as having landed the coveted role of Katniss Everdeen . Hutcherson has been acting for over a decade in films like “Bridge to Terabithia” and “Journey to the Center of the Earth,” but he is perhaps most recognizable for his role in last year’s critical darling and Oscar-nominated film, “The Kids Are All Right.” Australian Hemsworth, although slightly newer to Hollywood, has been garnering attention from his roles in TV and film, particularly British soap, “Neighbours” and last year’s tear-jerker romance, “The Last Song.” (That and the fact that he dated Miley Cyrus.) “The Hunger Games” is based on Suzanne Collins’ dystopian best-seller about children forced to compete in an annual, televised fight-to-the-death battle. It is an intense and violent story of survival, corrupt governments and a struggling population, with a heartbreaking love triangle thrown in for good measure. The fanbase for “The Hunger Games” is a fiercely loyal one whose ferocity and dedication to Collins’ source material have drawn comparisons to the “Twilight” fans, although “Hunger Games” readers tend to skew slightly older. The film is slated to hit theaters March 23, 2012. For young Hollywood news, fashion and “Twilight” updates around the clock, visit HollywoodCrush.MTV.com .
