Wired Says ‘The Web is Dead’ — On Its Increasingly Profitable Website [The Future]

Chris Anderson will generate plenty of chatter with his “The Web is Dead” Wired cover, foretold here previously . Fair enough; that’s what a smart magazine editor does. But all the more reason to note the rich ironies in his eulogy. More

Toy Story 3 Bombs in Russia

It’s not just domestic spies who reflect the increasingly fraught relations between the U.S. and Russia. The Kremlin (or somebody) appears to have put a hit out on Toy Story 3 , which has grossed a disastrous $4.8 million among Russian moviegoers in its first 10 days of release. By comparison, Shrek Forever After grossed $37.7 million over the same period. Of course this can mean only one thing: Armond White is huge in Russia . [ LAT ]

The Bachelorette Recap: Kasey Gets Kreepy

What might have been a tame episode of The Bachelorette soon became surprisingly memorable as Kasey made a complete fool of himself – many times over. He certainly didn’t take any of the conventional routes – drunkenness, jackassery, climbing mountains Rated R style – either. No, Kasey was a unique kalamity. How did Ali Fedotowsky respond to his increasingly odd overtures? Who received roses at the end of the night and which two guys’ dreams were krushed forever? THG breaks down all the action below in its plus-minus index … Chris Harrison informs the guys they are headed around the world, starting in New York City. The Bachelorette’s budget must really be increasing lately. Plus 4 . Ali Fedotowsky gets an InStyle makeover. Minus only 1 , because while complete cross-promotional filler, this did provide us gorgeous shots of Ali Fedotowsky . Kasey gets a one-on-one date and talks to the cameras about how Ali is a beautiful butterfly, “ready and open for love.” It only gets weirder from there. Minus 2 . KRAZY TRAIN : Kasey puts the unintentionally hilarious moves on Ali.

Joe Jackson to Katherine Jackson: Michael’s Death is All YOUR Fault!

In the latest of his increasingly outrageous statements about the late Michael Jackson, the singer’s father, Joe is again pointing fingers regarding his death. Only this time, he’s not just accusing Dr. Conrad Murray of murder – he’s blaming the inaction of his wife, Katherine Jackson, for Michael Jackson’s demise. It’s as shocking a statement as it is terrible. Joe tells the UK’s News of the World personally that he noticed Michael was “looking kinda funny and and frail” and asked Katherine to check up on him . She refused, Joe claims, because she didn’t want to invade his privacy. They argued about this before Michael’s June 25, 2009 death, but she was firm. After Michael died, he said to Katherine, “I said this would have never happened if you had went and been with him.” What a despicable human being . For reasons unknown, Joe Jackson has turned on Katherine . Intentionally cut out of MJ’s will, Joe is fighting to get an allowance from the estate, even as Katherine has been giving her estranged spouse money. We’ll see if that continues thanks to the latest installment in his “rich history of reckless, untrue comments,” as her lawyer, Adam Streisand, puts it. “The world knows that Mrs. Jackson has always been a loving mother and grandmother, and that she and Michael had a very special relationship.”

‘Iron Man 2’ Director Jon Favreau Reveals Deleted Scenes

‘There are scenes that I like that don’t fit into the movie,’ Favreau says of the future DVD extras. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Jon Favreau Photo: MTV News For decades, the stuff of Hollywood legend has been created by independently-minded directors and bottom-line-loving studio suits clashing over the final cut of a film. Sometimes, the studio is right ( “28 Days Later” comes to mind), and sometimes the filmmaker needs to be left alone (see: “Brazil” ), but these battles are more common than you’d think. So it should come as no surprise that Marvel and “Iron Man 2” director Jon Favreau — got along splendidly? “Yeah, yeah, there’s another cut that I would have had that’s, like, 50 minutes longer,” the filmmaker teased sarcastically when asked if he had one of the increasingly popular “director’s cut” versions that film fans see everywhere these days. “No, it doesn’t work that way at Marvel.” When we visited the set of the new superhero film , we saw Favreau and Robert Downey Jr. working closely with the laid-back, jeans-and-baseball-hat-wearing head of Marvel Studios — and Favs assured us that it wasn’t just for show. “That’s the nice thing about working at Marvel; they’re very supportive of the director. I’ve been given a lot of creative freedom there,” he said. “Kevin Feige, who runs the studio and is also the producer, is a partner creatively. And when we make changes, it’s ones that we’re all comfortable with. “I like to be very collaborative with them,” he continued. “So it’s not like there is a version that they strong-armed me into not using. I stand behind the one that is out there.” Somebody might want to give some career advice to Terry Gilliam and urge him to take on a Marvel flick. For his part, however, Favreau does admit there were a handful of scenes that came closer to making the film than others. “There are scenes that I like that don’t fit into the movie that I think are great, and I’ve included them in the DVD,” Favreau revealed. “It was like the thing where Gwyneth kisses the helmet and throws it out [of the airplane]. … There’s a [deleted] scene that leads up to that. It’s wonderful, but what it does is ruin the surprise and ruins the momentum of the movie in the beginning. “[The scene occurs] on a real C17 that we shot it on,” he explained. “But there’s a little bit of a misdirect that we wanted to sell, and the reveal of him landing on the stage being revealed for the first time was better. Also, [Paltrow’s character] Pepper had two introduction scenes, and so, structurally, there were issues with it that are hard to explain unless you see the whole cut.” Another deleted scene involved Scarlett Johansson, a repulsor and some heavy flirtation. “That one’s an interesting one, because the relationship between Tony and Pepper is so special to the audience that it’s [delicate],” Favreau said of making Johansson’s sensual character appear to be too close to Tony. “If you let him and Scarlett get too flirty and get too close, the audience turns off really quickly, because they really want to root for [Tony and Pepper] together.” Check out everything we’ve got on “Iron Man 2.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Owl City Is Under ‘Good Pressure’ While Working On New Music

‘There hopefully will be a few more ears willing to listen the next time around,’ he says. By James Montgomery, with reporting by Zach Smith Owl City’s Adam Young Photo: Tim Mosenfelder/ Getty Images By now, Adam Young’s journey from his parents’ basement to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 is pretty well-documented. And while it’s a pretty amazing story, the trick now for the man known as Owl City is to do it all over again. Young — who still lives in his tiny hometown of Owatonna, Minnesota (though he’s got his own place now) — is already at work on the follow-up to his breakout Ocean Eyes album. And yes, he freely admits to feeling all the pressure that comes along with the task. Though, unlike many, he’s channeling the increased focus to make his new songs even better. “I think it’s kind of a good pressure, in a way,” Young told MTV Radio. “Because I think through the upcoming singles, or singles from the new record that’s upcoming, I feel like now that I have a bit of an audience, there hopefully will be a few more ears willing to listen the next time around. [So] it’s kind of a good pressure, as far as having a bit more purpose behind the writing.” And while Young wouldn’t reveal what the new Owl City tunes are sounding like — it’s still sort of early, after all — he did admit that he’s finding solace in writing them. After all, the time he spends working on new stuff is about the only “personal time” he has in his increasingly hectic schedule. “Currently, the wheels are turning, so I’m really excited to get off the road here in a couple of weeks and get back down into the studio and kind of hide away and be kind of an evil genius for a little while and see what happens,” he said. “People are always telling you where to go, but … here and there I get a stab of inspiration, so I try to run to the laptop and type it out, or kind of demo it out on guitar.” The plan, Young said, is to continue working on the album between tours (his headlining jaunt runs until May then resumes in August, when he’ll open for John Mayer) and have the album out by the end of the year. That’s assuming everything goes according plan — something Young knows might not happen at all. “I’m excited to have a lot of time to mess around in the studio, and when I feel like I’m getting a bit stir-crazy, I’ll be able to get back on the road. So I’m excited,” he said. “Who knows, though. I’m kind of that perfectionist guy, so currently, I think the plan is for a new record in December, so a bit of a ways off but should be fun.” Are you excited for new Owl City music?
