Electric Motorcycle: 2010 MotoCzysz E1pc

This is the 2010 MotoCzysz E1pc, a race bike built by a tiny Oregonian company focused on pushing the limits of electric performance to the absolute max. It packs 10 times the battery capacity of a Toyota Prius and 2.5 times the torque of a Ducati 1198 into a package that looks like something out of a 24th-century Thunderdome. Tomorrow it will race in the Isle of Man TT, the toughest motorcycle race in the world. The technology at work is so advanced, so unprecedented, that we may be looking not just at the future of motorcycles, but of all electric vehicles. The reason the all-electric race bike is here, 4,600 miles from its home in Portland, Oregon, is to prove itself. Ever since 1907, the Isle of Man TT has been the race for bike manufacturers and riders to show their mettle to the public. The thinking goes that if you can lap its 37.7 miles of tiny, twisty back roads with an average speed in excess of 100 MPH, you or your bike become indisputably proven. Well over 200 riders and a handful of spectator’s have been killed trying to do just that. But as recently as two days ago, the future of motorcycles was missing its body panels (stuck in customs). Before this week, the finished bike has never even seen the light of day. But even in its unproven, incomplete state, it's been putting in laps that have the competition quaking in their leather. The customs snafu (and the mad dash to even finish the bike in time for the race) is not the first time Michael Czysz, MotoCzysz’s founder, CEO and the driving force behind the E1pc, had suffered a set back on this tiny rock in the middle of the Irish Sea. Last year, the Isle of Man TT hosted the first ever all-electric motorcycle road race, and MotoCzysz was there with the E1pc's predecessor. But while the machines that entered were technically impressive, their performance wasn’t. The race-winning team only averaged 87 MPH, well short of the 100 MPH watershed that defines a serious lap and way behind the 131.5 MPH lap record set by the fastest gas-powered superbikes. MotoCzysz didn’t even complete a full lap, suffering an electric spike from their experimental kinetic energy recovery system that fried the bike’s electronic control unit (ECU). That was a major blow for Czysz (pronounced “sizz”). Five months of whirlwind effort from the former motorcycle racer and architect and his small team in Portland saw them abruptly transition away from developing a 200 HP, gasoline-powered MotoGP bike to produce an electric bike that blew the zero emissions competition away standing still. The E1pc looks like an X-Wing crossed with an iPod to the other electric racer’s cobbled-together adaptations of existing internal combustion engine bikes. We overreached and it bit us in the ass,” says Czysz of last year’s race. “We’re trying to do too much with too little, we’re effectively building a Formula One level machine with one engineer, two machinists, one CAD guy, me and a body dude.” But the E1pc was out in front when it broke down. Way out front. added by: diode

Snoop Dogg, Ciara, David Beckham Drop Into ‘Star Wars’ Cantina For World Cup Ad

Noel Gallagher, Daft Punk and actor Jay Baruchel also mingle with aliens for Adidas commercial. By Gil Kaufman Snoop Dogg launches the Adidas Originals X Star Wars Collection in New York City Photo: Neilson Barnard/ Getty Images The Mos Eisley Cantina has always been a supremely freaky place to hang out. The dusty bar featured in the original “Star Wars” movie was populated with a universe of oddballs, from triangle-headed Hem Dazon, to four-eyed Muftak, fish faced Greedo, fly-like Ponda Baba and long-necked Hammerhead. But things get even weirder in a new Adidas ad timed to coincide with the upcoming kick-off of soccer’s World Cup. In the new ad, a universe of famous faces mixes in with the misfits jamming out to the music of Figrin D’an and the Modal Nodes. Fitting right in, French techno duo Daft Punk are the first modern touches, strolling into the fray wearing their signature silver-and-gold space helmets and black jumpsuits, pushing past R2D2 and C3-PO as they enter the bar. Among the first faces they spot, chilling in a booth just behind Hammerhead, are former Stone Roses singer Ian Brown and his pal, Oasis co-founder Noel Gallagher, who looked bemused to be hanging out with creatures who party harder than they do. The ad makes use of the original footage, including the bit where weary-faced human bartender Wuher grumbles, “Hey, we don’t serve their kind here,” a barb intended for the two droids, though it could just as well refer to the Daft Punk duo. “Your droids, they’ll have to wait outside.” After the Punkers look R2 and 3PO up and down, 3PO says, “I heartily agree with you sir.” Actor Jay Baruchel (“She’s Out of My League”) is then spotted, hanging out and joking with some aliens before the Daft Punks sit down with Han Solo to discuss some business. Their conversation is interrupted, however, when Snoop Dogg waltzes in and snaps his fingers at the bartender. He demands a drink, as Ciara chills across the bar with a pal. When Ponda Baba gives the Doggfather some attitude, the rapper snaps, “What’s your problem?” Mush-faced surgeon Dr. Cornelius Evazan then utters his famous line, “He doesn’t like you.” “I don’t like him,” Snoop snaps back, before Obi-Wan Kenobi counsels the doctor, “This little one’s not worth the effort.” “I don’t like you either,” the not-so-good doctor replies. “Well, I don’t like you either, fool!” Snoop says, before taking out his light saber and slicing off Ponda’s arm, which nets Baruchel a blaster that he clearly doesn’t know how to handle safely. Finally, injured soccer star David Beckham makes his grand entrance, taking the place of Solo and coming face-to-face with a pistol-packing Greedo, who demands to know when he will play again. “Jabba wants to make you an offer to play for his team,” Greedo says, before he’s accidentally blasted by a butter-fingered Baruchel. Beckham walks away, hands held up, saying, “It wasn’t me.” What do you think of this star-studded “Star Wars” spoof? Do you have other favorite World Cup ads? Talk about it in the comments. FILM REVIEW: GET HIM TO THE GREEK

Aaron (Jonah Hill) needs to get Aldous (Russell Brand) to the Greek. Morality for the masses By Don Simpson Writer-director Nicholas Stoller’s Get Him to the Greek is not really a sequel to Forgetting Sarah Marshall, which was also directed by Stoller. The only truly reprised character from that 2008 film is Aldous Snow (Russell Brand), the sex-crazed and drug-addled rock star. It is many years later and Aldous is recovering from a devastating break-up with his ex-wife,

23 Secrets of The Lost DVD Box Set, Revealed!

Truth be told, we haven’t been adjusting to our post- Lost existence with much grace; a good portion of the past week has been sent sitting in a church, clutching our homemade Hurley doll (stitched together from parts of a curly-haired Cabbage Patch Kid, a plush Shrek, and Teddy Ruxpin guts playing a tape of every “Dude!” ever duded , if you must know), and asking every “Jack” in the congregation if he’s finally ready to step out into the light. Some measure of solace, however, has come in the recent announcement of the Lost: Complete Collection DVD box set arriving in late August. While the official press release disclosed some of the $230 ($280 Blu-ray, for some reason) worth of extras, we weren’t satisfied with the list of bonus featurettes, the island replica, and paraphernalia like a mini-Ankh and senet game. And so, we went digging further to unlock more of its secrets in a quest to justify that heavy price tag, confident that our beloved Damolcuse are saving some surprises for the deep-pocketed faithful. Here are our discoveries of 23 more goodies (we told you we’re having a hard time letting go) that await at the end of your summer of mourning:

Is Mariah Carey Pregnant?

Online report cites ‘sources’ as confirming that the couple are expecting. By Jocelyn Vena Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon Photo: Jason Merritt/ Getty Images For months, the rumor mill has been speculating that Mariah Carey is pregnant with her and Nick Cannon’s first child — rumors that went into overdrive when it announced last week that Carey would no longer be starring in Tyler Perry’s latest opus , “For Colored Girls Who Have Considered Suicide When the Rainbow Is Enuf.” On Wednesday (June 2), a “source close to” the couple told RadarOnline.com that the couple are expecting. “They’re both very excited and very happy,” the source reportedly said. “Mariah and Nick want to keep the pregnancy quiet as long as they can.” Reps for Carey and Cannon had not responded to MTV News request for comment at press time. Recently, Cannon hedged that the pair’s dog is pregnant , but many wondered if he was just toying with the media over the speculation. According to an article on UsMagazine.com that was published Wednesday but was apparently no longer on the site at press time, he told fans over the weekend that “the bump is bigger. You can almost see it now!” Radar further reports that Carey never left the couple’s car on Saturday, the day Cannon reportedly spoke to fans, when they were seen going for a drive along the Malibu coastline. However, after she dropped out of the Perry flick, her rep told “She is not doing the movie because her doctor advised her not to. More than that, I cannot comment further.” Earlier this year, Cannon told MTV News that the couple “absolutely plan to have a family. But we gotta prioritize, because that’s a major, major priority. That’s like the only priority in life, when you think about it, is starting and raising a family. We wanna make sure everything is out of the way and that we don’t have any distractions.” Do you think Mariah is pregnant? Sound off in the comments below! Related Artists Mariah Carey Nick Cannon

Eminem Talks Lil Wayne, Rihanna And Pink Recovery Collabos

‘Wayne, to me, is definitely one of the greatest in the game right now,’ Em says during French radio interview. By Gil Kaufman Eminem Photo: Robyn Beck/ AFP/ Getty Images The elusive Eminem spoke to Skyrock Radio in Paris over the weekend and offered a tiny peek at what he has in store for his upcoming Recovery album . While most of the interview consisted of Em cracking jokes with the French DJs, he did briefly touch on hooking up with the incarcerated Lil Wayne on “No Love,” as well as Pink on “Won’t Back Down” and Rihanna on “Love the Way You Lie.” “I’ve always respected what Wayne does, and Wayne, to me, is definitely one of the greatest in the game right now,” he said of Weezy, who is in the midst of a yearlong prison stretch on gun charges. “As far as the songs with Pink and Rihanna … when I did the song that I did with Pink, I laid my parts first and kind of heard her on the record and felt that she would smash this record. And the other one I did with Rihanna is one of those tracks that I felt like only she could pull it off, only she could do it.” He also dropped the first hints about what the video for lead single “Not Afraid” might look like. Promising that it was coming soon (he mentioned “Saturday” but didn’t go into any other detail), Shady said, “The video is … kind of just … there’s a lot of things in it that are metaphorically speaking. There are things that are symbolic in the video. … The overall concept is basically being in a dark place and trying to get to the light.” Among the topics he touched on were 50 Cent slimming down for his upcoming role in “Things Fall Apart,” in which he plays a cancer-stricken football player. “That’s crazy,” Shady said when talk turned to 50’s shocking weight loss. While trying to find out more French cuss words in order to hit on a comely lady named Marie in the studio, Slim Shady deferred to longtime manager Paul Rosenberg when pressed about why the rapper did not make France one of his three tour stops on his upcoming European swing. The interview ended with Em expressing mystification over why people are so excited about soccer’s upcoming World Cup, a stance that might mean he’ll have some ‘splaining to do when he hits the stages in football-crazy Switzerland and the U.K. in July. “Is it politically incorrect if I said I didn’t like soccer?” he asked. “I’m not a big soccer fan.” Were you surprised by Eminem’s Recovery collaborators? Slash Promises New Velvet Revolver Will Be ‘A Lot Heavier’

‘When we started working with Scott, we started to lighten things up,’ the guitarist says of former frontman Scott Weiland. By Kyle Anderson Slash Photo: MTV News Other than taking a short break to play some riffs for Rihanna , top-hatted guitarist Slash spent the better part of last year working on his solo album, which many fans took as further proof that Velvet Revolver was no more. The supergroup — made up of Slash, fellow Guns N’ Roses alums Duff McKagan and Matt Sorum, Wasted Youth guitarist Dave Kushner and Stone Temple Pilots singer Scott Weiland — produced a pair of well-received albums. Then Weiland went back to STP, leaving Velvet Revolver without a frontman. Still, despite the group having been mostly quiet for the last two years, Slash says they fully intend to push forward — and the group even has some songs ready to go. “As soon as we got off the road from the last tour and parted ways with Scott, we got together and wrote half a dozen really great, sort of heavy metal pieces of music,” Slash told MTV News. “It’s a lot heavier than what Velvet Revolver has put out, so I’m dying to put out the quintessential Velvet Revolver record.” Slash said the new material better matches the group’s original intentions. “When Duff and Matt and I first got together, we wrote a ton of material that never saw the light of day, and that was all very heavy,” Slash explained. “It’s definitely our natural way of doing things. But when we started working with Scott, we started to lighten things up a lot, and we progressively got lighter. As much as I love the two records we did do, one of the things that was progressively more and more frustrating was the direction the band took.” Slash’s self-titled solo effort, released in April, features an eclectic mix of guest appearances, from Fergie to Iggy Pop to Kid Rock to former Alter Bridge singer Myles Kennedy , who’s currently fronting the guitarist’s touring band. And according to Slash, he wasn’t the only Velvet Revolver bandmember with more than one iron in the fire. “I’ve been doing this record, and there’s a tour and Duff’s been playing with Jane’s Addiction, so everybody has been pretty busy,” Slash said. “But at some point early next year, we’re going to reconvene and take a good serious look at everything that we’ve got.” In the meantime, Velvet Revolver remain a band without a singer — but not for lack of trying. “This next record will be us doing what we want to do without making any concessions to anybody,” Slash declared. “Which is why it’s taking so long to find a singer, because we want to find the guy who can front that band and not something we have to conform to.” Who should be the new Velvet Revolver singer? The Next ‘Twilight’: The Search Continues At BookExpo America

We pick five books that could live up to the hype to be your next book addiction. By Brian Jacks and Sabrina Rojas Weiss “Vampire Academy: Shadow Kiss” Photo: Penguin Books Mega-successful books series like “Twilight” and “Harry Potter” don’t come around every day. The flowery tales of Edward and Bella and the fantastical adventures of Harry and his schoolmates have entrenched themselves in the hearts of loyal followers, leaving room for little else. But the June 5 release of Stephenie Meyer’s “Twilight” spin-off novella “The Short Second Life of Bree Tanner” marks the end of an era. That’s why the publishers, authors and booksellers at BookExpo America this week were eager to tout their upcoming releases as the next big thing. MTV News scoured the trade show and soaked in the hype. Check back at our Hollywood Crush blog for reviews of many of these titles when they’re available. But in the meantime, here are five buzzed-about books whose mythical creatures and evil dystopias seem the most promising. Many of them are already being prepped for the big screen too. “I Am Number Four” What It’s About: A group of young aliens land on Earth after their own planet is destroyed, secretly integrating themselves into society where they slowly learn they’re developing powers. When those responsible for blowing up their planet track them down and begin killing them in sequential order, our hero John Smith (otherwise known as Number Four) vows to dish vengeance on the bad guys, all while juggling a hot and heavy love triangle involving his fellow extraterrestrial Sarah (Number Six) and a human girl. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight” : The book by “Pitacus Lore” (the pseudonym of James Frey and Jobie Hughes) doesn’t hit shelves until August 17, but that didn’t stop Steven Spielberg, Michael Bay and the creators of “Smallville” from teaming up to produce a big-budget film that’s set for a 2011 release. Alex Pettyfer of “Beastly” and Dianna Agron from “Glee” are among the stars already attached. That alone could help the book shoot to the top of the pile, but at its heart the title is about one young man and his quest discover himself, get the girl and take down the enemy. “The Passage” What It’s About: A government weapons project goes awry, turning much of the population into blood-sucking vampires. The book follows the story of Amy, a young survivor who remains mostly unaffected by the virus and may be the key to saving the human race. Interestingly, the tale shifts between two time periods, jumping 100 years into the future, when Amy is still alive (cue spooky music). What Could Make It the Next “Twilight”: Author Justin Cronin developed his book, which come out on June 8, while listening to his 13-year-old daughter obsess over Stephenie Meyer. Like the “Twilight” series, the story revolves around a special girl. Director Ridley Scott (“Gladiator,” “Blade Runner”) apparently agrees and has optioned the book to develop into a feature film. “The Hunger Games” What It’s About: In a oppressive country called Panem, every year, two children from each of 12 districts are sent to compete in a televised arena battle to the death. Sixteen-year-old Katniss Everdeen has the advantage of archery skills and something-more-than-friendship with fellow District 12 tribute Peeta. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight” : Suzanne Collins’ trilogy (third book, “Mockingjay,” is out August 24) has created a fierce, selfless heroine, a tragic love triangle and a frightening dystopian future that’s captured adults and teens alike. There aren’t any vampires in sight, but fans’ enthusiasm for these books is growing mighty feverish. Lionsgate is slated to begin filming a movie adaptation in early 2011. “Vampire Academy” What It’s About: Imagine Hogwarts, but more deadly and with sexy vampires instead of wussy wizards. “Vampire Academy” follows the adventures of Rose Hathaway, a half-vampire student of the boarding school who is training to become her best friend’s bodyguard. Though she’s often battling evil vampires, the series is not without a heaping of romance here and there. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight”: When we covered the “Vampire Academy” books last year, we called Richelle Mead’s series the “perfect antidote” to frustrations over Bella often playing the victim. In this series, we get a strong female character who’s more liable to kick someone else’s ass on her own, rather than relying on any strapping hunks to do it for her. And as of today, the latest book in the franchise, “Spirit Bound,” has hit #1 on the best-seller charts. “Beautiful Darkness” and “Beautiful Creatures” What It’s About: The series by Kami Garcia and Margaret Stohl, the book is told from the point-of-view of a high school student in the deep South who meets the girl of his dreams (literally). A tale of good versus evil, we follow the couple as the girl must choose between the dark side and the light side of her magical powers before her 16th birthday. “Beautiful Darkness” is out on October 12. What Could Make It the Next “Twilight”: Like “Twilight,” teenage angst is mixed with Gothic charm, dark secrets and choices to be made. The book is heavy on the romance aspect as it follows two young lovers and the feverous attempt by the boy to sway his girlfriend to the more righteous path.
