VIDEO: Watch Thor Get Cosmic And Then Blow The Crap Out Of A Fake New Mexico Town

As far as Marvel Studios’ summer superhero movies go, it seems like there might be a clear set of preconceived notions already coagulating into stone. Captain America ? Looks like it might be a retro-adventure movie like Indiana Jones ! X-Men: First Class ? The trailer looked cool, but the posters are objectively vomit-inducing, so we’re cautiously optimistic. Thor , on the other hand, seems to have already been declared DOA by the geek brigade. But this behind the scenes look on the set in New Mexico might start to change their minds.

Is Fabolous’ Baby Mama Emily Dating Her BFF Olivia’s Ex Boyfriend Darrelle Revis?

Excerpt from:

Word on the street is that Fabolous’ baby mama Emily Bustamante of “Love & Hip Hop” recently ditched him and is reportedly “seeing” Darrelle Revis, one of her clients who allegedly dated her BFF Olivia. Emily recently clowned Olivia on the show for embellishing her relationship with Darrelle. I have to say I don’t blame Emily, why would you want to stay with a man who won’t claim you? Watch The Captain America Movie Trailer! [VIDEO]

Here is the original post:

On July 22nd, 2011 Marvel Studios will finally be releasing their live action film Captain America . This is the next step in their eventual roll out of an Avengers movie. Chris Evans stars as the movie’s main character, Steve Rogers, a weakling transformed into a super soldier during World War II. I’m personally going to have to keep reminding myself that he is not the Human Torch from The Fantastic Four , but the CGI looks like it will help keep us all focused on this role. Jon Favreau Out as Iron Man 3 Director

OK, not a huge surprise considering a lot of Favreau’s recent comments about the state of Marvel Studios, but it’s still sad to read reports that Jon Favreau has decided not to direct the third chapter of the Iron Man saga. Favreau recently told MTV, “This whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys.” So, yeah. That doesn’t sound like a guy itching to sign on for another go around. (His rep did not immediately return Moveline’s requests for comment; Deadline drew confirmation for Robert Downey Jr.’s side.) But look on the bright side: This totally creates an opening for Mike Leigh . [ Vulture ]

Jon Favreau Won’t Direct ‘Iron Man 3’

Marvel is in search of a new director for third installment of the comic book franchise, according to reports. By Kara Warner Jon Favreau on the set of “Iron Man 2” Photo: Merrick Morton/Paramount On a day when the movie industry was focused on the Golden Globe nominations , just like in the movies, Hollywood got a few surprise twists. First, Ryan Reynolds confirmed to MTV News that he and wife Scarlett Johansson are splitting. And now, word is that Jon Favreau will not return to direct “Iron Man 3.” According to New York Magazine ‘s Vulture blog, Favreau informed Marvel Studios as recently as Monday night that he would not direct the third film in the blockbuster franchise. The news is shocking considering the massive box-office success and popularity of “Iron Man” and “Iron Man 2.” With few details having been made public, we can only speculate about what might have led Favreau to drop out. MTV News spoke to the director just last month, and he seemed uncertain about plans for the third film, particularly with regard to a story line and his impression that Marvel was preoccupied with “The Avengers” movie. “In theory, ‘Iron Man 3’ is going to be a sequel or continuation of ‘Thor,’ ‘Hulk,’ ‘Captain America’ and ‘Avengers,’ ” Favreau said. “This whole world … I have no idea what it is. I don’t think they do either, from conversations I’ve had with those guys. “Honestly, right now ‘Captain America’ and ‘Thor’ are their big priorities,” he continued. “And you learn things by shooting and making movies. The script is one thing, but when you actually see what you land on at the editing room — especially with Marvel where they film, cut, film some more and shape the film — you really learn as you go.” “Iron Man 3” is currently scheduled for a May 13, 2013, release. New York Magazine reported that Marvel began their search for Favreau’s replacement on Monday night. What do you think of Favreau parting ways with “Iron Man 3”? Tell us in the comments! How Did Kenneth Branagh Get ‘Thor’ Job? Marvel Chief Explains

‘He chased it pretty hard,’ Kevin Feige tells MTV News at Comic-Con. By Kara Warner, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Chris Hemsworth in “Thor” Photo: Paramount Pictures When Marvel Studios announced it was making a live-action movie about its god of thunder, “Thor,” fans of the comic books were mostly excited. But when the studio revealed its choice of director, seasoned Shakespearian thespian Kenneth Branagh, the reactions were surprised, and decidedly mixed. Now that the trailer is out and the cast and crew have made the rounds at San Diego Comic-Con, however, it seems the buzz is mostly positive for Branagh. When MTV News caught up with Marvel chief Kevin Feige during our live-stream show at Comic-Con, he revealed how Branagh landed the gig. “He chased it pretty hard,” Feige said. “We had a number of good meetings. He flew himself over to meet with me. We had a number of phone calls, a number of sessions — more meetings than I’ve ever had with a director before we’d brought them on.” Feige added that through those first meetings with Branagh, he quickly learned that the actor had a lot more invested in the character than Feige originally realized. “He’s a big, giant ‘Thor’ fan,” Feige said. “He clearly is a very literate guy when it comes to Shakespeare, and when it comes to almost anything, including Marvel’s ‘Thor,’ which was a surprise to us. “Also, just talking about movies,” he continued. “We love the same kind of movies, we love the same kind of things, and when you have someone who’s as talented as Ken is in one arena and bring him into another one, he is going to succeed.” Feige went on to say that Marvel was fully behind Branagh in every step of his filmmaking process. “We have the department heads, we have the great resources to help him,” he said. “What he brings to us is bringing our characters to life in a big way.” For breaking comic book movie news, columns and more — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .

‘Eclipse’ Gets Widest Domestic Release In Hollywood History

Opening in 4,416 theaters, the latest ‘Twilight’ film breaks record held by ‘Iron Man 2.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson in “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” Photo: Summit Entertainment Fans of “The Twilight Saga” are used to watching dreamy vampire Edward Cullen face down routinely shirtless werewolf Jacob Black over the heart of the beautiful Bella Swan — but it seems that Edward and Jacob have put aside their differences to team up against a new, unexpected opponent: Tony Stark. Deadline Hollywood reports that “The Twilight Saga: Eclipse” has already earned its first record without even officially landing in theaters. According to the report, “Eclipse” is currently slated to open in 4,416 theaters across North America, making it the single widest domestic release in Hollywood history. That same record was most recently held by Marvel Studios and Paramount’s “Iron Man 2,” which initially unspooled in 4,380 locations. Before that, “The Dark Knight” held the record in 2008 with 4,366 theaters. There is currently no official count of how many locations plan to launch “Eclipse” with midnight showings on Wednesday (June 30). Having already sunk its fangs into one record, the David Slade-directed “Eclipse” is well poised to cement its status in Hollywood history as it launches into theaters this week. In November, “The Twilight Saga: New Moon” enjoyed a massive $140 million opening weekend, more than doubling the initial numbers for the first “Twilight” film. With the summer season in full session, there’s no telling how much damage “Eclipse” could do at the box office. Are you going to a midnight screening of “Eclipse”? Share your plans in the comments. ‘Shrek Forever After’ Tops Weekend Box Office

Despite its first-place finish, fourth ‘Shrek’ installment performed well below expectations. By Josh Wigler “Shrek Forever After” The Box-Office Top Five #1 “Shrek Forever After” ($71.3 million) #2 “Iron Man 2” ($26.6 million) #3 “Robin Hood” ($18.7 million) #4 “Letters to Juliet” ($9.1 million) #5 “Just Wright” ($4.2 million) After last weekend’s victorious battle against Ridley Scott’s medieval epic “Robin Hood,” Jon Favreau and Marvel Studios’ “Iron Man 2” finally succumbed to a different fantasy film: “Shrek Forever After,” DreamWorks Animation’s fourth installment in the long-running animated franchise. Despite a first-place finish worth $71.3 million, the box-office performance for “Shrek Forever After” was nowhere near as successful as many had initially expected. “Forever After” was unable to come close to the massive $121.6 million earned by “Shrek the Third” in its opening weekend in 2007, or even the $108 million debut for “Shrek 2” in 2004. Considering the “Shrek” franchise’s name recognition, all-star talent and increased prices for 3-D ticket sales, it’s rather surprising that the DreamWorks film couldn’t make a bigger push towards resolving its $165 million budget. Indeed, “Forever After” could wind up being “The Final Chapter” after all. Although “Shrek” certainly performed below expectations, it didn’t fall nearly as hard as Universal’s “MacGruber,” based on the “Saturday Night Live” sketch of the same name. Even with a solid cast including Will Forte, Kristen Wiig, Ryan Phillippe and Val Kilmer, “MacGruber” collected a mere $4.1 million this weekend for a sixth-place finish. Limited releases included “Kites,” the romance that made $1 million in just over 200 locations, and “Solitary Man,” which earned the weekend’s highest per-screen average at $22,250 per location. Upcoming Releases Moviegoers searching for an action-adventure epic should look no further than next week’s “Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time.” But Jake Gyllenhaal’s video game movie faces fierce competition in the form of “Sex and the City 2” starring Sarah Jessica Parker. ‘Iron Man 2’ Gets Widest Release In Hollywood History

Marvel sequel will premiere in 4,380 theaters, beating record held by ‘The Dark Knight.’ By Josh Wigler Robert Downey Jr. in “Iron Man 2” Photo: Paramount Say what you will about his dubious personal ethics and his abundant supply of arrogance, but it’s impossible to deny that Tony Stark knows how to attract an audience — just check his international records for proof. Now, as “Iron Man 2” prepares to fly into theaters all across the United States this weekend, the superhero is poised to draw a crowd the likes of which Hollywood has never seen before. With a few short hours to go before its U.S. release, the Marvel Studios superhero sequel is already carving out a spot in the domestic box office’s history books — according to Deadline Hollywood , “Iron Man 2” will have the widest initial release in Hollywood history, with a walloping 4,380 venues to its name, courtesy of distributor Paramount Pictures. The previous record holder was Warner Bros.’ “The Dark Knight,” which boasted 4,366 locations in 2008. Although Iron Man has already defeated Batman’s record for most opening locations, he’ll have a higher bar to clear when it comes to topping the Caped Crusader’s initial box-office intake. In its first weekend in theaters, “The Dark Knight” secured an unprecedented $158.4 million record. Analysts predict that “Iron Man 2” could land close to that number — somewhere between $150 and $160 million by Sunday’s conclusion — presenting Tony Stark with the opportunity to pluck another trophy off of the considerably stacked shelf located in the Bat Cave. Already, “Iron Man 2” has performed fantastically overseas. It currently sits atop a money pile worth $121.1 million after its release in 53 foreign territories, including the United Kingdom, South Korea, France, Australia and Russia. By Monday morning, American moviegoers will probably have donated few hundred million more to the Stark Industries bank account. Tim Gunn Carries On In ‘The Smurfs Movie’

‘Project Runway’ mentor joins cast as an executive assistant at a cosmetics company. By Adam Rosenberg Tim Gunn Photo: Henry S. Dziekan III/ Getty Images For a movie about a bunch of little blue people, the cast of “The Smurfs Movie” is sure getting very big. The latest to join the cast is noted fashion expert and “Project Runway” mentor Tim Gunn. Variety reports that Gunn will play the role of an executive assistant at a major cosmetics company. Presumably, director Raja Gosnell will work out some way for Gunn to utter his “Runway” catchphrase, “Make it work,” to Tailor Smurf . The fashion guru joins a cast that already includes Neil Patrick Harris , “Glee” star Jayma Mays, Hank Azaria and Sofia Vergara, as well as the voice-acting talents of Katy Perry , Fred Armisen, George Lopez, Anton Yelchin, Paul Reubens, Alan Cumming, Jeff Foxworthy, Wolfgang Puck and Jonathan Winters. “Smurfs” shooting is under way right now in New York City. Just this week, MTV ran an image of Azaria decked out as Gargamel , the evil wizard who was driven on the cartoon by his mad desire to cook and eat the Smurfs. The movie will follow the diminutive blue people as they flee from their village after Gargamel locates it. They slip away through a magical portal and land smack in the middle of New York City’s Central Park. With Gargamel close behind, the Smurfs must find a way home before the wizard catches up with them. Gunn has appeared in guest roles on “Ugly Betty” and “How I Met Your Mother,” which also happens to star Harris. Gunn also hosts his own reality TV series on Bravo, “Tim Gunn’s Guide to Style.” “The Smurfs Movie” isn’t out until August 2011, but Gunn will be featured on the big screen long before then: He’ll be seen in the upcoming “Sex and the City 2,” which is out at the end of this month.
