Greg Hardy’s Domestic Violence Case Dismissed As Abused Girlfriend Didn’t Show Up Court Via CharlotteObserver Greg Hardy’s domestic-abuse case was abruptly dismissed Monday because his accuser – who is believed to have reached an undisclosed civil settlement with the Carolina Panthers’ Pro-Bowl defensive end – could not be found to testify. Nicole Holder, Hardy’s ex-girlfriend, told prosecutors last fall she did not want to go through another trial after Hardy’s initial conviction in July 2014, District Attorney Andrew Murray said in a statement Monday as jury selection was about to get underway at the Mecklenburg County Courthouse. Hardy, who came to court in a dark, pin-striped suit and white $600 Balenciagas tennis shoes, appeared impassive as the decision was revealed. He said nothing, and his attorney, Chris Fialko, would not take questions. Since November, efforts to contact Holder and serve her with a subpoena have been fruitless, Murray said, despite “extraordinary measures” that included police staking out the addresses where she was believed to be living and requests to relatives to have her come forward. Murray said that he understood Holder had reached an independent settlement with Hardy. Holder’s attorney, Daniel Zamora of Charlotte, did not return a phone call Monday morning. In the days leading up to Hardy’s trial, Zamora refused to say whether Holder would appear. In July, with Holder at his side, Zamora said Hardy’s conviction “sent a strong message to the people of Mecklenburg County that it doesn’t matter if you’re an average Joe or if you’re a professional athlete that plays for the Carolina Panthers: If you assault a woman and you communicate to that woman that you will kill them, you will be arrested. You will be prosecuted, and you will be convicted.” Speaking briefly with reporters after the cased was dismissed, Murray said his office remains committed to prosecuting domestic abuse cases. In many cases, prosecutors go to trial without the cooperation of victims, who may change their minds on bringing charges or fear reprisals from their attackers. The hype for Better Call Saul Season 1 Episode 1 hit unattainable levels a couple weeks ago. At least one website dared to say the AMC spinoff was better than Breaking Bad . That’s sheer lunacy, of course, and we aren’t about to compare the premiere of one series with the entirety of the greatest series in television history. We opened with a quick look at what became of Saul Goodman: after getting the heck out of Walter White’s Dodge, he works at a Cinnabon in Nebraska, goes by the name “Gene” and is looking over his shoulder at every turn. We know how Saul Goodman arrived at this place. But we spent the rest of the hour learning how a man born Jimmy McGill turned into Saul Goodman. Jimmy is desperate to make it big as an attorney. He works as a public defender. He barely gets by. His office is in the back of a beauty salon. Bob Odenkirk is fantastic at portraying Jimmy as both vulnerable and pathetic, yet smooth talking and sure of himself when need be; like when he tries to land a potentially big client but loses them to a giant law firm. That giant law firm includes as its partner Jimmy’s brother, Chuck. He suffers from a disease in which he cannot be exposed to electromagnetic pulses of any kind. As a result, he hasn’t worked in a year and Jimmy wants him to cash out his partnership stake and pocket around $17 million… largely so Jimmy can have some of it, of course. But Chuck is determined to beat his disease and return to the office someday. And he has the backing of his firm, who doesn’t want to shell out eight figures to their ill colleague. Jimmy is therefore in a corner. He’s desperate. He sees no means to the ends of having money, which he emphasizes is totally “the point” in an argument with his brother. So he works with two local small-time con artists to try and pull a larger con that could net them a few grand.. but it instead puts a gun in Jimmy’s face to close the episode. And that gun is being held by Tuco! Breaking Bad fans will smile broadly at that closing reveal, as well as at the opening few minutes when we catch back up with Saul. But even those who have never heard of Heisenberg should appreciate the pace of the premiere, the story of Jimmy McGill and the journey we’re about to go on to see how this WAY down on his luck attorney builds himself a legal ends up on top. Maia Barnett, from North Salem, who works in accounting near Grand Central station in Manhattan revealed that she missed the 5.45pm train heading Northbound on the Harlem line to finish some work. Barnett revealed her lucky escape after some last-minute paperwork at the office caused her to miss the Metro-North train on Tuesday night which was involved in a fiery crash with an SUV. So Sports Illustrated just released the cover for this year’s Swimsuit Issue, and as you can probably tell since you have a working set of eyes, they picked Hannah Davis to be their 2015 cover girl. Granted, it’s not quite as epic as last year’s cover (three hotties is always better than one, it’s just simple math) but I still think they made a great call. The cover was officially unveiled on Jimmy Fallon last night and all I want to know is, where can I get that giant poster? Because I think it’d look even better in my office/bedroom. P.S. Missing Elderly Georgia Couple Found Dead This is truly a sad story . Via NYDN : The search for an elderly Georgia couple that went missing after trying to buy a vintage car on Craigslist came to a tragic end after authorities pulled the couple’s SUV from a rural pond and found two bodies, each shot in the head, Monday in a patch of woods nearby. Police positively identified the dead as 69-year-old Bud Runion and his wife, 66-year-old June Runion, one day after their missing 2003 GMC Envoy was pulled from a lake near McRae on Monday, the Telfair County Sheriff’s Office said. Ronnie Adrian (Jay) Towns, 28, has been charged with murdering and robbing the couple, authorities said Tuesday afternoon. Police believe the couple headed to the rural town from their Marietta home Thursday afternoon in search of a 1966 Ford Mustang they’d offered to buy on Craigslist. Towns allegedly lured them to McRae with the promise of the car, which he never had, authorities said. Towns was originally charged Monday with giving false statements and criminal attempt to commit theft by deception. The missing car was found near property owned by Towns, officials said. He’s due in court Tuesday. SMH! Some people are truly evil . After taking what he wanted from them, What reason did he really have to shoot the poor couple???
Colts Linebacker Josh McNary Charged With Sexual Assault Josh McNary, Linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, has been charged with rape. A warrant has been issued for his arest amid some pretty damning reports from a 29-year-old woman he allegedly took back to his apartment last month. Via CNN : Indianapolis Colts backup linebacker Josh McNary has been charged with felony rape, a spokeswoman for the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office said Wednesday. McNary, 26, has not yet been arrested, Peg McLeish said, but an arrest warrant was signed by a judge. McNary was also charged with felony criminal confinement and misdemeanor battery resulting in bodily injury. According to a probable cause affidavit, a 29-year-old woman reported to police on the morning of December 1 that she was raped hours earlier at the apartment of a man she met while out at a bar. She said she told the man several times she didn’t want to have sex and fought with him, scratching him on the face, neck, back and shoulder. The man forced her to have sex on his bed, she told police. She took the man’s cell phone as she left the apartment. A forensic nurse examined the woman and found injuries to her vagina and dried blood behind one ear. The document indicates detectives used the cell phone to identify McNary the next day. He was cooperative, police indicated, and he asked for a lawyer after being advised of his rights. A nurse found abrasions and scratches on his stomach, back, neck and shoulder, the document says. Investigators also found the woman’s clothing and an earring in McNary’s apartment. SMH!!! Everyone is innocent until proven guilty…but this definitely doesn’t look good.
