Let’s Find the Weird Stuff in Oprah Winfrey’s 18-Minute Monologue About Dreams

Apparently Oprah Winfrey appreciated a reporter’s question about her childhood dreams at Thursday’s Television Critics Association panel in Pasadena; she cooed, “Nobody has ever asked me that!” before answering the question, and then monologuing about her life and network for another 18 minutes. It was a strange little oration. You can thank Alan Sepinwall at HitFix for transcribing the rant in its entirety , but let’s sort through Oprah’s speech-team gusto and pinpoint its strangest revelations.

Piers Morgan’s New Show Will Succeed Because Most Other Media Will Fail

At Thursday’s TCA press conference in Pasadena, Piers Morgan announced that the first guest on his new CNN show will be OWN sorceress Oprah Winfrey — and that newspapers won’t exist soon. “There will be no newspapers in 20 years. Deal with it,” he said, adding that he feels sorry for Scandinavian paper factories that will soon go down in flames. Fine, but he should have assured us that America’s Got Talent won’t be around in 20 years either. Soften the blow, Piers!

Can We Sit and Watch the OWN Network? Movieline Investigates

Oprah Winfrey launched her new network on New Year’s Day, and I have news for you: It’s still on right now. Like, it’s on in front of me. It’s making noise and Oprah gestures and Travoltan shrieks. Right now. If this Oprah insists on buying the airwaves surrounding my beloved Game Show Network and and Teen Nick, I guess she deserves serious consideration. Join me on a day-long journey as I try watching this damn thing — though we’ll break when An Officer and a Gentleman comes on since it’s too early for safe Debra Winger consumption.

Will Oprah OWN the Airwaves?

Sarah Palin fans may not tune in , but Oprah Winfrey takes the next significant step in her career on Saturday when she launches OWN. The self-titled cable network is expected to reach nearly 80 million homes and, according to the goddess herself, will connect “you to your best self and to the world.” Talk about a lofty goal! Oprah says she always knew she would be a “light carrier” and that her 25-year run as a talk show host would simply be a starting point for her “next thing.” She’ll appear on OWN for at least 70 hours/year, starting Saturday night with a behind-the-scenes special. Other programs will feature Oprah favorites such as Cristina Ferrare’s Big Bowl of Love , In the Bedroom with Dr. Laura Berman and The Gayle King Show . Says Winfrey: “I’m going to be there to get this network launched. I have a commitment to do a show on the channel for the next several years to try to get things off to as good a start as possible. But, if in 25 years, I’m sitting there on the air in my rocking chair, something went wrong.” Will you tune in to OWN?

MTV to Unleash Snooki on NYC New Year’s Eve

Friggin’ Snooki. Who better to ring in the New Year with? Who better to be placed inside a ball and dropped on live TV to boot? No one, at least in MTV’s eyes. The orange Jersey Shore star, who once went by the name of Nicole Polizzi , will be ushering in 2011 from inside the network’s New Year’s Eve ball. BALLER: With the tiny Snooks on board, the MTV ball will be lowered into the Atlantic Ocean and never heard from again. Just kidding. Wishful thinking there . Just before midnight, the pickle freak will descend upon Times Square. “I’m gonna be like a friggin’ hamster,” she said . “It’s the first time they’ve done it. I’m not sure how it’s going to work, but I think it’ll be fine.” She should be. If there were any real danger, the network would have done a test run on Angelina Pivarnick . If that went awry, no big thing.
