Robert Pattinson Says ‘Eclipse’ Is ‘Different,’ More ‘Serious’

‘They’re not, like, fantasy things. It’s like a horror film!’ RPattz teases of fight scenes. By Josh Wigler Robert Pattinson backstage at the 2010 Movie Awards Photo: MTV News Many “Twilight” fans are expecting a darker film with more action, but plenty of romance between Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and her various supernatural suitors when “Eclipse” hits theaters on June 30. But “Twilight” enthusiasts who haven’t braced themselves for a different experience should consider themselves warned: Leading man Robert Pattinson revealed to MTV News that the threequel absolutely takes a more serious tone. “I’ve seen a very early cut,” Pattinson said at the . “It’s good. It’s different. It’s really different, like, it’s kind of serious.” Pattinson clarified that in the case of “Eclipse,” the words “different” and “serious” are good things, especially when it comes to the action sequences. “All the kinds of fight scenes that are in ‘New Moon,’ they’re, like, real fights now [in ‘Eclipse’],” he said. “They’re not, like, fantasy things. It’s like a horror film!” The horror label should come as no surprise considering that “30 Days of Night” director David Slade is responsible for “Eclipse.” And not to mention the fact that Peter Facinelli previously revealed that fans will see the “true vampire-ness” of his Carlisle Cullen and the rest of his fanged family, including the “dark, dangerous side” of Alice (Ashley Greene), as well as “a darker side” of Jasper (Jackson Rathbone). Another big tipoff to the film’s pitch can be found in the “Eclipse” footage we’ve already seen, like the action-packed teaser that premiered during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards on Sunday. Having earned a PG-13 rating for “intense sequences of action and violence,” there’s no question that “Eclipse” will differ from previous “Twilight Saga” installments. The only question is, do you trust Pattinson’s declaration that “different” is a good thing? Are you looking forward to a darker “Twilight” film? Or do you want less action? ‘Eclipse’ ‘Exceeded All My Expectations,’ Peter Facinelli Says

‘Seeing the whole Cullen tribe just roll up their sleeves and go to town? That’s pretty exciting,’ he tells MTV News. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Eric Ditzian Peter Facinelli backstage at the 2010 Movie Awards Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — Take a deep breath, sit down and get ready for some news that might make you angry, folks: Somebody out there in the world has seen “Eclipse” — and it’s not you. “I just saw it two days ago,” a hot new film reviewer who simply bills himself as “The Fatch” told us Sunday at the MTV Movie Awards . “To see that movie [was amazing]; it exceeded all my expectations.” OK, in case you haven’t figured it out yet, “The Fatch” is actually Peter Facinelli. And he saw the film because he has one key advantage over ordinary people like ourselves: He plays family patriarch Dr. Carlisle Cullen in the “Twilight” films. So, needless to say, he’s got a few strings he can pull from time to time. “I love the battle sequence,” Facinelli said of his favorite scene in the movie, a briefly-glimpsed-in-the-trailers climax that has Jasper, Emmett, Alice and the rest throwing down alongside werewolves as they take on a ravenous army of newborn vampires. “I’ve got to tell ya — seeing the whole Cullen tribe just roll up their sleeves and go to town? That’s pretty exciting.” It’s no secret that the “Twilight” stars love the MTV Movie Awards and have annually made the trek — not just to pick up some Golden Popcorn, but also to re-energize themselves with a powerful reminder of why they’re working so hard on this massive franchise. According to Facinelli, Sunday was another lesson on why it’s time to get to work promoting “Eclipse” and then dive right into “Breaking Dawn” madness. “It’s all the fans. I mean, I’m humbly overwhelmed by their support and love of these movies,” Facinelli marveled. “I hope they enjoy ‘Eclipse’ just as much, if not more. It’s my favorite book of the series, and it was a high-water mark for me going in.” Relive the wildest, funniest and most-jaw-dropping moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, watch revealing red-carpet interviews and get exclusive movie clips after the show at MovieAwards.MTV.com . Will Ferrell Weighs In On Sandra And Scarlett’s MTV Movie Awards Kiss

‘The Other Guys’ star says the smooch between ‘Sandra and Charlotte’ was one of the high points of the night. By Todd Gilchrist, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Scarlett Johannson and Sandra Bullock at the 2010 MTV Movie Awards Photo: MTV When he could remember the names of the actresses involved, actor Will Ferrell told MTV News that he thought that the surprise kiss between Generation Award recipient Sandra Bullock and presenter Scarlett Johansson was one of the evening’s high points. When asked what he enjoyed seeing the most during the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, he said, “I can say Sandra Bullock and Charlotte,” meaning Scarlett Johansson. Unflappable even in the face of the gaffe, Ferrell nodded and corrected himself. “Scarlett Johansson. She goes by Charlotte, though — she usually drops the ‘S.’ ” After being presented with her Generation Award, recipient Sandra Bullock shared an unexpected lip-lock with Scarlett Johansson during her acceptance speech. Truth be told, their smooch actually legitimized Johansson’s spot on the stage alongside fellow presenters Bradley Cooper and Betty White — after declining to say anything during the Generation presentation, Johansson finally admitted she was there in place of “The Proposal” star Ryan Reynolds, who was nominated alongside Bullock for Best Kiss, and she and Bullock initiated an impromptu make-out session in response to, well, losing the award. Even without the kiss, the presentation of Bullock’s Generation Award was unquestionably one of the highlights of the show. As Johansson deferred to her co-presenters, Cooper provided a litany of weird nicknames for his “All About Steve” co-star, and then stepped aside as White recounted many of the movies in Bullock’s storied career, albeit wildly inaccurately. Bullock’s gracious and funny acceptance speech paid homage to her collaborations with Cooper and White, made light of her recent personal woes and then she petitioned attendees and viewers to go back to making fun of her. During his own appearance, however, Ferrell and his “The Other Guys” co-star Mark Wahlberg hung above the Movie Awards stage in a suitably awkward recreation of the film’s advertising campaign while their fellow castmembers Eva Mendez, Dwayne Johnson and Samuel L. Jackson presented the award for Best Villain. Wahlberg was outraged when Tom Fenton, Harry Potter’s Draco Malfoy, thanked an extensive list of supporters, friends and family. Ferrell, meanwhile, offered a few unsolicited comments about the growing pain in his groin from the harness that held him in the air. Robert Pattinson Reflects On ‘Twilight Saga’ Success At MTV Movie Awards

‘I just have to keep working to not explode,’ he tells MTV News of the wild ride. By Larry Carroll, with reporting by Josh Horowitz Robert Pattinson Photo: MTV News UNIVERSAL CITY, California — A long time ago, in a faraway land (OK, maybe it was just Portland), the stars of the “Twilight” series were nobodies. Hopes weren’t terribly high when that girl from “The Messengers,” Mike Dexter from “Can’t Hardly Wait” and the kid who died in the “Harry Potter” movies came together to shoot Stephenie Meyer’s first novel. But as the “Saga” stars dominated another MTV awards show this weekend, Robert Pattinson couldn’t help but marvel at how far they’ve come. “It’s crazy,” the spiky-haired superstar marveled at the MTV Movie Awards , looking back on simpler times. “For it to have accelerated so quickly.” At the 2008 Movie Awards, the first “Twilight” film was barely approaching the end of production when some last-minute scrambling had Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart walking the red carpet … so unnoticed that they had to go back and start again because no one was stopping them for questions. Well, except us . “I should have done a more coherent speech for the Global thing,” RPattz said of his Global Superstar win, appreciating the massive audience all over the world that has tuned in over the past few years to hang on his every word (that is, when he’s not being cut off by the host ). “It’s just so ridiculous.” The 2009 Movie Awards were the culmination of the chaos, as KStew and RPattz’s initial wave of fame swept over Universal City. This time, the stars were accompanied by Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene, Taylor Lautner and Peter Facinelli — many of whom weren’t even invited the previous year. By the end of the night, they were the new kings and queens of the show. “I still don’t have any idea what’s going on,” Rob admitted to us backstage this year. “I just have to keep working to not explode. “I’m incredibly appreciative of every little piece that’s come together,” he concluded, flashing that same charming, uneasy grin that he’s brought with him to Universal City for the past three years, “so I can be living this ridiculous life.” Relive the wildest, funniest and most-jaw-dropping moments of the 2010 MTV Movie Awards, watch revealing red-carpet interviews and get exclusive movie clips after the show at MovieAwards.MTV.com . ‘Breaking Dawn’ Contract Dispute Resolved

Kellan Lutz, Ashley Greene and the rest of the Cullen family confirmed for the final ‘Twilight’ installment. By Josh Wigler Ashley Greene Worry not, “Twilight” fans — the Cullen family isn’t going anywhere. Summit Entertainment announced Wednesday (May 19) that Peter Facinelli, Ashley Greene, Kellan Lutz, Jackson Rathbone, Elizabeth Reaser and Nikki Reed are all returning for “The Twilight Saga: Breaking Dawn,” the final installment in the supernatural-romance franchise based on Stephenie Meyer’s best-selling novel series. The castmembers join Billy Burke, who returns as Charlie Swan. Earlier this month, reports circulated suggesting that certain “Twilight” actors were negotiating for high pay increases, calling into doubt their participation in the upcoming sequel. Actors Ashley Greene and Kellan Lutz reportedly asked for $4 million for two separate “Breaking Dawn” films, though there’s currently no confirmation that the movie will be broken into two parts. Nikki Reed and Jackson Rathbone were said to be holding out as well, though Reed reportedly had a change of heart and was close to finalizing her deal as of May 12. Rathbone’s status was unknown at the time. In “Breaking Dawn,” Bella Swan (Kristen Stewart) and Edward Cullen (Robert Pattinson) finally get married and embark on their honeymoon. Their romantic escape is interrupted when Bella learns that she is pregnant with Edward’s child, with her condition rapidly accelerating. Due to the length and subject matter of “Breaking Dawn,” many fans have speculated that the movie would be divided into two parts to cover the full extent of the story. “Breaking Dawn” will be helmed by “Dreamgirls” director Bill Condon and written by Melissa Rosenberg. Wyck Godfrey, Karen Rosenfelt and Stephenie Meyer are producing. How Totally Random are This Year’s Tribeca Film Festival Juries?

Answer: Pretty totally random! Tribeca today sent over a release announcing 35 jurors for its 2010 festival, ranging from Oscar winners to a Twitter co-founder to a State Department member to Jessica Alba, Zach Braff Aaron Eckhart, and Alicia Keys — in no particular order, and not quite where you’d likely expect them to show up. It hardly seems right that they’d snub Movieline’s distinguished staff on our birthday , but there’s always next year. Speaking for myself, I’d give up a chair for Brooke Shields or America Ferrera any day. The rest, though… you really must see it to believe it.

Goin’ Rogue Again: Sarah Palin to Pen Second Book

Sarah Palin’s memoir, Going Rogue , hit bookshelves and best-seller lists last fall. Then again, Lauren Conrad topped the N.Y. Times best-seller list too. Just sayin’. In any event, you betcha, the former Alaska governor will be runnin’ it back after HarperCollins announced today that it will publish a second book from Palin. If nothing else, the new book will help solidify Palin as the most high-profile failed V.P. candidate and not-even-one-term governor in modern American history. The currently untitled book is not a sequel to Going Rogue , per se, but in keeping with her memoir, it will be a “celebration of American virtues and strengths.” It will include excerpts chosen from and about people who have inspired her. Levi Johnston , Seth MacFarlane and David Letterman will team up on the prologue. AN AMERICAN LIFE : Sarah Palin sure is cashing in on hers! No wonder Sarah’s publicist quit – she gets PR 24/7 as it is. Whether it’s berating Family Guy , producing random documentaries , appearing on The Tonight Show , punditing away on Fox News or hypocritically trying to milk Bristol Palin and her teen mom status, Palin has become a media constant. Her latest book should keep fueling that trend, regardless of whether it serves as a prelude to a presidential run in 2012 (publicly, she’s still hedging on that topic). What do y’all think? Is the new dose of oratory brilliance from Sarah Palin written with an agenda in mind? One besides making Sarah Palin rich and famous?

Chris Weitz Teases Eclipse as "Very Steamy"

Take this from someone in the know: Eclipse is gonna be hot! Chris Weitz, who directed New Moon , tells People magazine he’s read the script for the Twilight Saga’s third installment and fans will NOT be disappointed. Especially in one specific scene. “I’m looking forward to the sleeping bag scene, I gotta say,” Weitz said . “That’s going to be very steamy.” As readers of the book franchise know, Weitz is referring to the moment where a freezing Bella (on the run from Victoria) gets warmed up from Jacob… while Edward angrily, awkwardly, angrily looks on. The director also says he’s excited to see Elizabeth Reaser and Peter Facinelli get into the intense action of Eclipse . “I have a special interest in seeing Peter and Elizabeth tear people’s heads off,” Weitz said. “Knowing them, and how kind of kooky and delightful they are, I’m going to find seeing them being ultra-violent very interesting indeed.” Yeah. That’s fine and all. We just wanna see Taylor Lautner shirtless . Eclipse opens on June 30.
