Black Transwoman Kicked Off Flight For Wearing “Black Panther” Hat Amanda Stevens, a black transgender freelance journalist from Albany, NY was hoping to peacefully take a flight to Chicago to cover a League of Legends event. However, the flight crew wasn’t feeling her attire and eventually put her off the flight because of it . The trouble started when the pilot expressed discomfort over Amanda’s A$AP Rocky shirt, which featured a black and white American flag turned upside down: Dear @united this shirt shouldn't make your pilot uncomfortable enough to warrant having me spoken to and told to take it off pic.twitter.com/AHNU3pZxLC — Amanda Stevens (@sagegnosis) October 12, 2016 Now, WHY the pilot was inspecting the clothing of passengers before boarding the plane, we aren’t sure. Especially since an American flag displayed upside down is actually an internationally recognized sign of distress — something a pilot should generally know… But Amanda complied by turning her shirt inside out before boarding. However, as soon as she got seated, suddenly flight attendants had even more issues with her flight attire. According to Gizmodo : Reached by phone, Stevens told io9 that a United representative first raised concerns when she was preparing to board flight 5183 from Albany to Chicago. Stevens told me that she’s flown in this outfit before but turned the shirt inside out. She was then told that the hat was a concern as well. She was allowed to board the plane but had a tense exchange with an attendant who asked her to place her bag under the seat in front of her. “I didn’t know if I was going to be staying on the plane or not and I said that,” she told me. “I was grumbling because I was frustrated.” Stevens then told me that the exchange with the flight attendant was given as the reason that she was ejected from the flight. Colin Kaepernick Responds To Justice Ginsburg’s Remarks Colin Kaepernick is used to being attacked right and left at this point…but the criticism are coming from more and more surprising places. This time, it’s Supreme Court Justics Ruth Bader Ginsburg. According to TMZ , Ginsburg told Katie Couric in a recent interview that she didn’t have any respect for Colin’s “dumb” protest…but he and all other “stupid, arrogant” athletes who care enough about the police executions of unarmed Black men to make a stand are well within their right to do so. “I think it’s dumb and disrespectful…If they want to be stupid, there’s no law that should be preventive. If they want to be arrogant, there’s no law that prevents them from that.” SMH. These lifelong seats are seeming like a worse and worse idea with each year they age into senility and outspoken bigotry. Either way…Colin had a response: “It is disappointing to hear a Supreme Court Justice call a protest against injustices and oppression ‘stupid, dumb’ in reference to players doing that. I was reading an article and it refers to white critique of black protests and how they try to delegitimize it by calling it ‘idiotic, dumb, stupid,’ things of that nature, so they can sidestep the real issue. As I was reading that I saw more and more truth how this has been approached by people in power and white people in power in particular.” Colin also says that the flag, though white people hold it in the highest regard, isn’t more worthy of respect than human life: “At the end of the day the flag is just a piece of cloth and I am not going to value a piece of cloth over people’s lives.” Look at Colin, keeping it classy. Add University of North Dakota to the list of colleges to never send your black sons and daughters to EVER… According to Star Tribune reports : University of North Dakota officials announced late Wednesday that they concluded an investigation into two racially charged Snapchat photos and that they have decided not to punish the students involved. “After a full review of the information, the Code of Student Life and the laws pertaining to each incident, and after consulting with general counsel, [the Office of Student Rights and Responsibilities] has concluded that neither incident constitutes a violation of the UND Code of Student Life,” the school wrote in a statement. The outcome was “driven by the Constitutional protection of free speech,” but officials wouldn’t disclose details of their findings. SMH… Free Speech? And not a violation of the UND Code of Student Life? So we guess there are no rules in the Code of Student Life about not being a racist bigots who treat innocent people with zero regard. Both incidents happened on Snapchat in September, just days apart. The first involved three students who allegedly locked a black student out of a dorm and took a picture on her phone with the caption, “locked the black b**ch out.” And the second showed four students posing in blackface with the caption “Black lives matter.” “As part of the conversation with student leaders, we talked about the concept of zero tolerance,” UND President Mark Kennedy said in a statement released following the investigation. “While I appreciate the desire for such a policy, it is unachievable under the First Amendment to the U.S. Constitution.” Kennedy said that he was aware that students and other members of the community were hurt by the incidents and that he personally was “appalled” by the photos. At least somebody is appalled at that school. We don’t understand how the damn school President can be APPALLED and want a zero tolerance policy. Derrick Rose’s Attorney Want More Black Jurors In The Selection Pool According to a report in the DailyMail, Derrick Rose’s attorneys have taken exception to the diversity in the Los Angeles juror pool. The accused rapists’ civil trial began today and the first order of business is to decide who will comprise a jury of Derrick Rose’s peers. He was not in attendance for the hearing as he was set to make his debut in an exhibition game against the Rockets in Houston. ‘I wanted to take it to court because I didn’t want to settle,’ Rose said on Tuesday, which was also his 28th birthday. ‘I don’t feel like I did anything wrong. If I go up there and just tell my side of the story, I think I’ll be alright.’ While Rose might not be worried ’bout nothin’, his lawyers certainly have a few concerns… But the defense attorneys in the rape lawsuit have complained about the lack of black people in the Los Angeles jury pool. An attorney for Rose’s two co-defendants said that only two of the 50 prospective jurors were African Americans. All three defendants are black. Rose’s lawyer noted that 15 of the first 27 possible jurors were Hispanic, the ethnicity of the woman. There are going to be a LOT of factors at play in this particular trial. Oregon Father Upset Over Son Learning About White Privilege In School A teacher in Oregon just wanted to explain what the term “white privilege” means and help students understand where they fall in the national discussion about it. And of course…one of the white parents was livid to hear of their child gaining understanding of such things. Via MailOnline : An Aloha, Oregon father is upset about a survey on white privilege that his son was assigned as homework. The survey, which was handed out in a literature composition class at Aloha High School, asks students to consider a series of statements about race, and rank the comments on a scale from 0 (seldom or never true) to 5 (often true) in accordance with their personal experiences. Example questions include ‘I can go shopping alone most of the time, pretty well assured that I will not be followed or harassed’ and ‘I can turn on the television or open to the front page of the newspaper and see people of my race widely and positively represented’. School district spokeswoman Maureen Wheeler told KGW that the class in question covers issues affecting the U.S. today, including race, class, sexuality and religion. The goal of the class is for student to ‘gain empathy, understanding and to build bridges’. But Jason Schmidt, whose senior son is in the class, doesn’t see the survey that way. ‘The way this survey is read, it almost wants to like, shame you for being white,’ Schmidt told KATU. Schmidt says he’d like to see his son ‘learning actual education and not be a part of some social experiment or teacher’s political agenda’. Oh WAH WAH WAHHH. Sounds like the child and his father must have checked each and every box with the highest possible privilege score to get this bent out of shape about an educational exercise. New Project Allows Black People Write Their Own Obituaries The Black Obituary Project is a collection of pre-written obits to put a spotlight on the anti-Black violence and growing surge of police brutality. HuffPo recently featured the project’s creator on why he chose to convey his sentiments in this fashion: “Ja’han Elliot Jones, 24, was unarmed when shot and killed in conflict with local police officers,” his obituary reads. “His familiarity with the Black canon steered him into a potent state of unapologetic Blackness ― one in which the James Baldwins and Young Jeezy’s; the bell hookses and the Queen Bey’s; the Frantz Fanons and the Futures all occupied hollowed, cherished beautiful space in Jones’ identity.” “So often, we are killed and our photos are posted about but our stories are not,” Jones told The Huffington Post. “This grants black folks agency we’re often denied in death. White House Pushing For New Race Categories For Middle Easterns And North Africans Before Barack Obama packs his things and moves out of 1600 Pennsylvania Ave, he’s got a couple things he wants to do for brown and black immigrants who are now American citizens according to USAToday. The White House is proposing that new racial identifications be added to the 2020 census. Such a move could be immensely helpful in both combatting discriminatory laws and medical research. Under current law, people from the Middle East are considered white, the legacy of century-old court rulings in which Syrian Americans argued that they should not be considered Asian — because that designation would deny them citizenship under the 1882 Chinese Exclusion Act. But scholars and community leaders say more and more people with their roots in the Middle East find themselves caught between white, black and Asian classifications that don’t fully reflect their identities. Sounds like the brown folks are pleased with the idea: “What it does is it helps these communities feel less invisible,” said Helen Samhan of the Arab American Institute, which has been advocating the change for more than 30 years. “It’s a good step, a positive step.” Does this count as “doing something for black people” or nah? Virginia Restaurant Uses Kapernick’s Jersey As A Door Mat 49ers QB Colin Kaepernick has made plenty of admirers and haters after refusing to stand for the Pledge of Allegiance during NFL games. One Virginia Beach restaurant has declared war on the athlete by using his jersey as a foot mat for patrons to rub their dirty shoes when entering the eatery.
