Vanessa Hudgens and Ashley Tisdale took a break from dancing to Beyonce together to attend Elton John’s annual Oscar viewing party in West Hollywood last night. Maggie Meier was in a coma: In the fall of 2008, Meier, now a senior at Blue Valley Northwest High School in Overland Park, Kan., complained to her parents about feeling ill. When her conditioned worsened they rushed her to the hospital, where she had a seizure.Doctors eventually discovered Meier was suffering from mycoplasma meningoencephalitis, a type of meningitis that caused swelling in her brain. She would end up in the hospital for 100 days. For two-and-a-half months, she was in a coma. Her doctors and family had to do everything for her, from turning her every two hours to moving her arms and legs for her so they wouldn’t stiffen. Sometimes the family would transfer her into a chair where she would shoot a ball into a mini hoop. After a few minutes of shooting, she would go back to her comatose state. “I have never seen anything like it,” said Dr. William Graf, Meier’s neurologist. “The act of shooting a basketball must have been ingrained as one of Maggie’s basic instincts — her basketball shooting motion came back to her even before she was able to stand up or walk again.” Now nearly fully recovered, Meier says she has absolutely no memory of playing. WTF?!?! A Bronx substitute teacher has been arrested after allegedly twisting a student’s nipples in school, prosecutors said. Chukwuma Duru, 27, a substitute at Bronx Career and College Prep High School in Morrisania, was charged with forcible touching, harassment and endangering the welfare of a child. The 16-year-old student told cops Duru touched his nipples inappropriately during two separate instances on Feb. 10. Duru was released without bail. His sister, Amarachi Duru, said she the charges against her brother were a “misunderstanding,” adding that he is an extremely religious man who is getting his masters. “When I saw the news I started crying because I don’t think that’s something my brother would do. The story is all messed up,” she said. “It’s not like him at all and anyone who knows him would know.” Duru has been a substitute in city schools since only December 2011. Joseph Kahn’s Detention had me from its first knowingly self-aware trailer, and while word out of SXSW was polarizing — a love it or hate it kind of deal, by many accounts — it’s one of my more anticipated films of the spring. True, the competition this season isn’t too stiff, but still! Watch Josh Hutcherson (of next months The Hunger Games , perhaps you’ve heard of it?) as a cute hipster kid get ready to take a beating from the school tough guy while an actual killer runs rampant through town and tell me this isn’t worth putting on the calendar for April. Here’s the film’s full trailer, to give you a sense of what we’re in for. Admittedly, the nonstop pop culture references schtick has been almost fully exhausted by now but good, clever high school comedies never get old. Call it Not Another Not Another Teen Movie , if you will/must. Adding to the intrigue: Detention was shot half a year before Hutcherson was cast as Peeta in The Hunger Games , so the timing of release here is obvious. Will Hunger Games fans flock to the R-rated horror comedy to see a new side of Hutcherson in what may be the edgiest/darkest/ballsiest project since he graduated from family flicks? “Not those party favors… Mom!” The mother of an 8-year-old Madeira Elementary student was arrested at the school Tuesday afternoon on drug possession charges. Police arrived at the school just prior to dismissal after staff reported a parent was intoxicated or under the influence of drugs. Police said staff members heard Emily C. Rosenberger, 31, making “snorting” sounds in a bathroom stall. When she came out, staff members said she exhibited strange behavior. Police said Rosenberger was attending a Valentine’s Day party at the school, where her daughter is a student. Police said staff members promptly removed Rosenberger from the students’ presence and notified police. “The principal called; actually, I took the call,” said Madeira Police Chief Frank Maupin. “She said they were concerned. A parent was there visiting and they heard strange noises in the bathroom.” Police said Rosenberger was in possession of hydrocodone, OxyContin, oxycodone and white powder that tested positive for cocaine. Police said she also had a large sum of cash on her. “I’m concerned if she is, in fact, selling these drugs, it’s bringing people into her neighborhood that aren’t desirable to be there,” Maupin said. Rosenberger was charged with three counts of possession of drugs and one count of possession of illegal drug paraphernalia. Court records indicate Rosenberger had in her possession a straw with white powder inside. She was transported to the Hamilton County Justice Center. Bond was set Wednesday at $2,500. Rosenberger was ordered to stay away from her children, and she must be electronically monitored if she is released. Rosenberger’s daughter was released to her grandparents upon dismissal Tuesday, but police said just a month ago, the child’s grandmother, Stephanie Rosenberger, was in trouble with the law, too. Police said Stephanie Rosenberger smashed through a Pilates business and drove home with debris dangling from the hood, finally parking in her driveway several blocks away. “They located her vehicle in the driveway with part of the building still on the hood,” Maupin said. Before Bishop Eddie Long came under fire for settling sexual abuse charges against him out of court when he vowed to fight them, Long’s finances were under scrutiny in a congressional investigation by Iowa Sen. Chuck Grassley. WSB-TV starting looking into Long’s assets more than six months ago. Now with his wife Vanessa filing for divorce, Long’s finances are under the microscope. WSB-TV found very little paperwork because the church and its dozens of affiliated companies file very few public documents. Records show Long’s assets have been intertwined with New Birth’s assets for years, including New Birth paying approximately $200,000 in property taxes for Long and $85,000 in taxes for his private plane. Long’s financial troubles appear to be mounting. In addition to the undisclosed financial settlement to five young men who accused him of sexual abuse last summer, records show Long has agreed to pay nearly $2 million to settle a defaulted bank loan, he owes $200,000 to a developer, and in October church members sued Long for over $1 million in failed investments sold by a man he endorsed. WSB-TV requested an interview with Long, but a spokesperson told reporter Jodie Fleischer the bishop was too busy.
