Who Should Play Patti Smith in the Just Kids Movie?

Rock legend Patti Smith set the literary world on fire last year with her memoir Just Kids , a sensitive, longing look at her friendship with the late photographer Robert Mapplethorpe. The book mostly chronicles their years in New York prior to her fame as a punk poetess from the mid-’60s to the mid-’70s — before Horses revolutionized Ginsbergian rock. Now word is out that Smith is adapting the National Book Award winner into a screenplay with Gladiator scribe John Logan. Who should play the inimitable lady on the big screen?

In Honor of Kevin Smith’s Pilot, 5 Filmmakers We’d Rather See Host a Talk Show

Today, Vulture reported that outspoken filmmaker , discriminated plane passenger and interview over-sharer Kevin Smith is developing a half-hour syndicated talk show. Which is fine, and honestly, a naturally-fitting format for Smith. No disrespect to Smith — even if we did once resolve to silence him by wiring shut his mouth — but he already has podcast and Twitter platforms to preach from, and we’d rather see a few other filmmakers host a talk show first. Take a look at our suggestions and share your own in the comment section below.

In Light of Rupert Murdoch’s Pie Attack, 5 Pie Throwing Pro Tips From the Movies

By now you’ve likely heard about the pie flung at media emperor Rupert Murdoch , Laurel & Hardy-style, during a parliamentary hearing on Tuesday. Disappointingly, the fight did not escalate into a full-blown Battle of the Century affair on live TV because Murdoch’s wife, Wendi Deng, shut the assailant down with a sharp right hook before he was quickly escorted out of the room by police. In light of this attack — which failed to meet our own lofty pastry battle standards, mainly because it was actually just shaving cream foam — Movieline has compiled five pro-pieing tips from cinema.

In Honor of 7-Eleven’s Birthday, A Brief History of Convenience Stores in Movies

It’s the unofficial 84th birthday of our favorite chain convenience store, 7-Eleven , meaning two things: First, you’re entitled to a free Slurpee (at all participating locations) and second, it’s as good a time as any to look back at some of the best scenes set in 7-Eleven-like establishments in movie history. Who knew that one-stop-shop marts were appropriate settings for pregnancy scares, super-human cyborgs, Michael Bay-directed hold-ups and most frightening of all, a skinny, ’90s era Alec Baldwin in a track suit?

Is Daniel Radcliffe Turning Into Robert Pattinson?

You heard it here first (or second, if you heard it in your own head and wished it away already): Daniel Radcliffe might be transforming into a Robert Pattinson doppelganger. In his new photo shoot for the UK version of GQ , Radcliffe cops the Pattinsonian pompadour and points his jaw all the Pattinsonian ways. Are the similarities eerie? You tell us if he’s starting to resemble the the dearly departed Cedric Diggory.

How I Met Your Mother Rerun Includes Zookeeper Ad

If you thought that sitcom rerun advertising was exclusive to commercials, you’re apparently wrong. Sadly (or excitingly, depending on your views on time-travel marketing), networks have found a way to generate ad revenue for new films and products in old episodes of your favorite television series by straight-up superimposing those products into a scene. For evidence, look no further than a recent rerun of a 2007 episode of How I Met Your Mother that allegedly (and eerily) advertised this weekend’s Kevin James vehicle Zookeeper .
