Catholic League President Calls Out The Three Stooges for Total Nunsense

Movie critics are unhappy with the current Three Stooges film because it’s terrible. But The Catholic League is displeased with the new comedy for an entirely different reason, and it’s summed up in the following photo: President Bill Donohue has issued a statement in which he’s critical of the idea that this comedy is a faithful homage to the goofy trio. “Yes, the slapstick is there, along with the groans, pokes, thumps and the like. But the TV show never mocked nuns or showed infants urinating in the face of the Stooges. The film does,” Donohue said. As seen above, Sports Illustrated swimsuit model Kate Upton portrays a nun in the movie, donning a rosary necklace along with a bikini. Larry David also takes on the role of nun… named Sister Mary-Mengele, likely after the Nazi war criminal Joseph Mengele. “This movie is not just another remake: it is a cultural marker of sociological significance, and what it says about the way we’ve changed is not encouraging,” says Donohue. A Fox rep has responded to the criticism by saying “the Stooges have proved over time, laughter is a universal medicine. The nuns that Mr. Donohue alludes to, are in fact, caring, heroic characters in the movie, albeit within the framework of a very broad comedy.” Where do you stand on this issue? Should the Catholic League be angry?

Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie to Star in The Counselor?

For the first time since the 2005 action-romance that brought them together, Brad Pitt and Angelina Jolie may be set to burn up the big screen together. The Mr. & Mrs. Smith co-stars are in talks to appear alongside Shame’s Michael Fassbender and Javier Bardem in The Counselor , directed by Ridley Scott. According to reports, Brangelina’s project is set to begin in a few months, and the movie will shoot in Europe. Both the Jolie-Pitts and Scott have homes in France. Fassbender will play the title role of a respected lawyer who gets tangled in the drug business, while the film will reportedly deal with very gritty themes. Unlike when they shot Mr. and Mrs. Smith , however, Jolie and Pitt are a bona fide couple – with six kids. Until now they have alternated film projects. “We’re not ones to repeat ourselves, but we’d like to, because now, we’re hopscotching films so one can be with the kids and one’s free to work,” Pitt said. “And why aren’t we doing [movies] together? Why aren’t we doing everything together?” Looks like they soon will be.

The Hunger Games Sequel: Gary Ross Out as Director

Gary Ross and The Hunger Games have parted ways. Ross’ exit was all but confirmed last week, but he’s released a statement explaining why he decided to discontinue his work with the famous trilogy: “Despite recent speculation in the media, and after difficult but sincere consideration, I have decided not to direct Catching Fire ,” said Ross (below, right). “As a writer and a director, I simply don’t have the time I need to write and prep the movie I would want to make because of the fixed and tight production schedule.” “I loved making The Hunger Games. It was the happiest experience of my professional life. Lionsgate was supportive in a manner that few directors ever experience.” “They empowered me to make the film I wanted to make and backed the movie in a way that requires no explanation beyond the remarkable results.” “And contrary to what has been reported, negotiations with Lionsgate have not been problematic. They have also been very understanding of this difficult decision.” “I also cannot say enough about the people I worked with: Producer Nina Jacobson, a great collaborator and a true friend; the brilliant Suzanne Collins, who entrusted us with her most amazing and important story; the remarkable Jennifer Lawrence whose performance exceeded my wildest expectations, and the rest of the incredible cast, whom I am proud to call my friends.” “To the fans I want to say thank you for your support your faith, your enthusiasm and your trust. Hard as this may be to understand I am trying to keep that trust with you. Thank you all. It’s been a wonderful experience.” The studio also released a statement addressing the news , saying, “We’re very sorry that Gary Ross has chosen not to direct Catching Fire.” “We were really looking forward to making the movie with him. He did an incredible job on the first film and we are grateful for his work. This will not be the end of our relationship, as we consider Ross to be part of the Lionsgate family.” Sad news, but inevitable from the sound of it. And now, the search for the new director begins. Any thoughts on who should direct Catching Fire ? [Photo: Fame/Flynet]

Bully Re-Edited, Re-Released as PG-13 Movie

The producers of Bully and the Motion Picture Association of America agreed on a unique compromise to re-release the controversial documentary film as PG-13. The Weinstein Co., in response to its initial R ratingby the MPAA, made the unusual move of releasing the film in limited release without a rating at all. That gave each individual theater owner the decision whether to show the film or not, and potentially limited the scope of its release – all on principle. Bully Trailer Bully’s producers appealed the R rating and lost earlier this year in a move that could’ve derailed its effort to highlight the epidemic of adolescent bullying. The new version of the film deletes some obscenities, but in an interesting move, keeps a controversial scene on a bus in which the ‘F-bomb’ is lobbed. Three times at a bullied child, in fact. This is a major exception to MPAA rules; the group typically imposes an R rating on any film with more than two.

Mary Jo Buttafuoco and Stu Tendler: Married!

Mary Jo Buttafuoco married Stu Tendler in Las Vegas Saturday. MJB, who was infamously shot in the face by her husband’s teenage lover, Amy Fisher, nearly 20 years ago, used her maiden name in the ceremony (Connery). Stu Tendler reportedly manages a print shop in Vegas. Long divorced from Joey Buttafuoco, Mary Jo underwent numerous surgeries and lost her hearing in one ear as a result of the shooting. She later wrote a book about the ordeal entitled, “Getting It Through My Thick Skull.” At least she has a sense of humor. Amy Fisher served seven years in prison for the shooting, then went on to become an amateur porn star. Joey Buttafuoco did six months for statutory rape. Congrats to Mary Jo and Stu! Terrence Howard Ordered to Pay Estranged Wife $50K

Terrence Howard has been ordered to shell out $50,000 for his soon-to-be ex-wife’s expenses in the midst of their ongoing, increasingly ugly legal dispute . Howard’s camp had claimed that the Red Tails star is low on cash and Michelle Ghent Howard’s allegations of mistreatment were harming his reputation. Apparently the judge did not concur. According to Michelle Howard’s attorney, Karen Donahoe, he maintains a $76,000 / month lifestyle after making $2.6 million as an actor in the past year. Terrence’s attorney, Christian Markey, countered: “He hasn’t had a paycheck. No job offers. And he only has $20,000 in cash. She’s got more money.” The once-happy couple quietly tied the knot in January 2010, but Ghent filed for divorce a year later … and said Howard beat and threatened to kill her . She obtained a restraining order. Howard claims she’s a racist, jealous monster who claimed that she “never wanted to marry a n—-r in the first place.” An evidentiary hearing is scheduled for April 23. Until then, Howard owes $1,800 a month for her Range Rover, $20,000 for her attorney fees, $20,000 for accountant fees and $10,000 in spousal support.
