However, New Mexico overcomes Montana. New Mexico had a good chance to show that it was not an also-ran at the NCAA tournament this year. The team frittered away a 14-point lead. Many people did not believe that BYU would be able to beat the Florida Gators, but BYU was able to hold on and win by a score of 99-92. One of the biggest upsets of the day was Old Dominion just barely beating Notre Dame by a score of 51-50. Both Kansas and Kansas State resoundingly beat their opponents, North Texas and Lehigh respectively. Lehigh had an early lead, but the powerful Kansas team was able to come back and win the game decisively with a score of 90-74. Kansas State won their game by a 20 point margin with a final score 82-62. Hence, No. 6 Xavier University move on in the West Region and will play either No. 3 Pittsburgh or No. 14 Oakland in the next round.
