Jay-Z And Kanye West’s ‘Otis’ Video To Premiere Thursday!

Watch the Throne clip will hit MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV.com and BET at 8:56 p.m. ET/PT. By Rob Markman Jay-Z and Kanye West in their “Otis” video Photo: Roc-A-Fella Jay-Z and Kanye West will continue to keep fans watching. Three days after the monumental release of their collaborative album Watch the Throne, Hov and Yeezy will premiere the LP’s first video, for “Otis,” on MTV, MTV2, mtvU, MTV.com and BET on Thursday at 8:56 p.m. ET/PT. Immediately following the premiere, the Spike Jonze-directed music video will air on MTV Jams and MTV Hits, with an encore airing on MTV2 at 11 p.m. ET/PT. Read all about how Jay and Kanye are breaking the mold with Watch the Throne. “Otis” captivated music fans when it premiered last month on DJ Funkmaster Flex’s Hot 97 radio show in New York. The song, which samples Otis Redding’s 1966 rendition of “Try a Little Tenderness,” finds Jay and ‘Ye rapping eight bars apiece before passing the mic back and forth several times during the track’s two-minute-and-58-second run. There is no catchy chorus or melodic refrain, just the dusty record loop and hard-hitting rhymes, which made the song an instant fan favorite. Days after the song’s release, two pictures from the video’s set were leaked online. One photo showed a large American flag draped over a blue wall, correlating with Givenchy designer Ricardo Tisci’s cover art for the single. The second pic was of Jonze and West on set, but it ultimately revealed nothing about the clip’s theme or overall feel. What are the critics saying about Watch the Throne ? So far, the “Otis” video has been shrouded in mystery, much like the Watch the Throne album itself. Because the LP didn’t leak early like most albums these days do, fans didn’t get their first listen to the album until it was officially released Monday. Now they get to see WTT ‘s first visual when the “Otis” video premieres Thursday. In addition to the premiere, fans can check out MTV News’ “RapFix Live” on Wednesday (August 10) at 4 p.m. ET on MTV.com and watch as industry experts weigh in on Watch the Throne and what to expect from the joint album’s first video. By Rob Markman, with reporting by Sway Calloway Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame Photo: MTV News Jay-Z and Kanye West aren’t the only rappers dropping a collab album this week. As soloists, Atlanta’s Gucci Mane and Waka Flocka Flame have taken their Southern-drenched sound worldwide, and on Tuesday (August 9), the duo released Ferrari Boyz, an LP Waka said was inspired by the people. “Fans were like, ‘Man, y’all need to do somethin’ together, work with people in the industry,’ ” Waka told MTV News’ Sway. “See, we could agree with one of the statements: We’ll work together, but the industry folks, they industry, you follow me?” On Ferrari Boyz, the 1017 representatives keep everything in-house. The majority of the album was produced by Lex Luger and Southside, both of whom contributed largely to Waka’s first album, Flockaveli, in 2010. As far as guest appearances go, the Ferrari Boyz didn’t call on any of their past big-name collaborators like Rick Ross, Diddy or Usher. Instead, underground MCs like Tity Boi (a.k.a. 2 Chainz) and Georgia rapper Rocko rounded out the track list. “Man, we just came to smash the game — point blank, period,” Waka said. “They chasin’ our sound, folks’ singles is on our sound, and we might as well just go ‘head and give it all to ‘em.” For Gucci, who was freed from Fulton County Jail in July after a three-month stint, working with his rap prot

Anne Hathaway Responds To ‘Dark Knight Rises’ Catwoman Reaction

‘If you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,’ actress promises MTV News. By Kara Warner with reporting by Josh Horowitz Anne Hathaway as Catwoman Photo: Warner Bros It was the photo that launched a thousand blog posts, tweets and message-board debates. Last week, the Web was ablaze when Warner Bros. released the first photo of Anne Hathaway as Selina Kyle in “The Dark Knight Rises.” MTV News was immediately on the case, offering up our own analysis , as well as thoughts from a few experts on what the photo of Hathaway in costume, riding what looked to be Batman’s motorcycle, meant for the character and her assumed transformation into Catwoman. Check out our photo analysis of Hathaway’s Catwoman. Now, in knowing how tight-lipped the “Dark Knight Rises” stars are sworn to be about the films, when we caught up with Hathaway as she promoted the upcoming movie “One Day,” we didn’t expect her to offer any commentary about the photo — but she surprised us. “I was not going to admit it: I asked someone to send me a few reactions [to the photo],” she said. “And I happen to know that MTV’s reaction was ‘meh.’ ” Now, we’re not sure about the “meh” quote, but we will admit to using the phrases “cautiously optimistic,” “unflattering” and “underwhelming” in our analysis. Regardless, Hathaway said that no matter the first impressions, there is a lot more happening with that suit. “What I am happy to say is, if you didn’t like the photo, you only see about a 10th of what that suit can do,” she promised. “And if you did like the photo, you have excellent taste.” Check out everything we’ve got on “The Dark Knight Rises.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com . Evanescence Say Making New Album ‘Felt Like The First Time’

‘I had a little bit of an identity crisis,’ frontwoman Amy Lee says of band’s hiatus during ‘MTV First: Evanescence.’ By Kara Warner, with reporting by James Montgomery Evanescence’s Amy Lee Photo: MTV News After a 20-month hiatus from performing, Evanescence returned to the stage in fine, fighting form Monday (August icon cool Evanescence Say Making New Album Felt Like The First Time for the exclusive “MTV First: Evanescence,” treating viewers to the first live performance of their comeback single, “What You Want,” followed by a lengthy no-holds-barred Q&A. The energy in the room and onstage was palpable. The live audience at Blackbird Studios — the recording house where the band laid down the majority of their forthcoming, self-titled album — held on and rocked out to each and every note, particularly frontwoman Amy Lee’s powerful vocals. In discussing their hiatus and eventual return as a band, Lee admitted that the “hard part” of making music and recording was something she felt was missing from her writing process. “The fact that we had to fight for it felt like the first time again,” Lee said of the band’s ups and downs in the years leading up to their latest work. “I had a little bit of an identity crisis,” Lee admitted of being in and associated with Evanescence since she was a teenager and into her adulthood. “[The success with] ‘Fallen’ happened really fast, and it was just go, go, go for a couple years, and we went right into writing and wrote the next record. By the time we finished touring with ‘The Open Door,’ I just needed to go, ‘Who am I as an adult?’ “But [in taking a step back I realized] this is what I do,” Lee said. “It’s not a character; this is really me. Realizing and getting back to it in a real, fuller way. ‘Oh, I’m in this because I love this and [the band] is a true, real part of me,’ not because it’s a character or something. It just makes me really, really happy to be here.” Stay tuned to MTVNews.com as we roll out more from our exclusive interview, including talk about tour details, “Twilight” and much more. Lady Gaga Sued For Allegedly Copying ‘Judas’

Chicago-based singer Rebecca Francescatti claims Gaga’s song is similar to a song she recorded in 1999 called ‘Juda.’ By Kara Warner Lady Gaga Photo: Michael Loccisano/ Getty Images Relatively unknown Chicago-based singer Rebecca Francescatti has filed a lawsuit against Lady Gaga for alleged copyright infringement on her hit single “Judas.” According to TMZ , Francescatti claims that “Juda,” a song she recorded in 1999 with her band Rebecca F. & the Memes, has multiple similarities with Gaga’s track, chief among them the fact that Francescatti’s former bass player Brian Gaynor is now employed by a music company that wrote 17 songs for Gaga’s Born This Way album. NBC Chicago reported that Gaynor was open with Francescatti and admitted that he was writing for and working with Gaga. Francescatti’s lawyer, Chris Niro, told TMZ that his client is seeking proper recognition for her original work. “Though the songs are different styles, the composition is the same and the chorus is the same melody,” he told the site. “[Rebecca] is seeking recognition for what she created.” By “recognition,” Francescatti means money she believes is owed to her. In the lawsuit, a copy of which was obtained by the Huffington Post , Francescatti names Gaga, Interscope Records, Universal Music Group, DJ White Shadow and sound engineer Brian Joseph Gaynor as participants in creating the single “Judas,” a song that bears “a substantial similarity” to “Juda” in that Gaga allegedly “copied and incorporated substantial, original portions” of the work, though it was previously copyrighted and recorded with Gaynor. Francescatti is reportedly seeking a cut from the profits “Judas” has earned. Do you think the two songs are similar? Let us know in the comments below! Related Artists Lady Gaga
