Kimchi: One Of The World’s Healthiest Food

Kimchi is one of the numerous traditional Korean food.  It is the most common ‘banchan’ or what we call the side dish. Kimchi is the fermented nappa cabbage (sometimes radish) mixed with garlic, salt, vinegar, chili pepper, chili sauce and other spices. It is estimated that 40 lbs of kimchi is consumed per person each year. Kimchi can be eaten with rice or noodles, from soups to pancakes and even pizzas and burgers. Kimchi is very high in fiber and low fat.  It is loaded with vitamins A, B, and C, but its biggest benefit may be in its “healthy bacteria” called lactobacilli, found in fermented foods like yogurt. This good bacteria helps with digestion, plus it seems to help stop and even prevent yeast infections, according to a recent study. And more good news: Some studies show fermented cabbage has compounds that may prevent the growth of cancer. The nutritional composition of typical kimchi per 100 grams are as follows: Food energy – 32 kcal Moisture – 88.4 g Crude protein – 2.0 g Crude Lipid – 0.6 g Total sugar – 1.3 g Crude fiber – 1.2 g Crude ash – 0.5 g Calcium – 45 mg Phosphorus – 28 mg Vitamin A – 492 IU Vitamin B1 – 0.03 mg Vitamin B2 – 0.06 mg Niacin – 2.1 mg Vitamin C – 21 mg Kimchi: One Of The World’s Healthiest Food is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Well-Done Meat Lovers Will Most Likely to Develop Bladder Cancer

Most of us has been lovers of meat. Majority of us prefer to eat meat rather than vegetables even before when we were still kids. Aside from loving the meat per se, we also love our meats to be well-done or slightly burned. According to experts, meat that has been fried, grilled and barbecued until meat is charred can form cancer-causing chemicals. People whose diets included well-done meats were over twice as likely to develop bladder cancer than those who preferred meats rare. The University of Texas investigators found the risk was highest for those who ate well-done red meat such as steaks, pork chops and bacon. It is not only true to pork but to chicken, beef and fish as well when it is eaten nearly charred. Professor Xifeng Wu, the lead author of the study said that this research reinforces the relationship between diet and cancer. The charred food contains heterocyclic amines (HCAs), one of the cancer chemicals and has raised cancer risk by more than two-and-a-half. “These results strongly support what we suspected – people who eat a lot of red meat, particularly well-done red meat, such as fried or barbecued, seem to have a higher likelihood of bladder cancer”, Professor Wu added. Quidditch – A Wizarding Sports and A Sandwich?

Quidditch has been a trend to today in Google search. People are searching for ‘ quidditch ‘ and what it is. To give you an idea, Quidditch is a wizarding sports in the Harry Potter series. It’s like soccer or football for the wizards and witches, only they are flying. Players ride their broomsticks and they fly around an elevated pitch. There are three balls in this game – the Quaffle, the Bludger and th Golden Snitch. The Quaffle is the one that can score points for the teams, they have to shoot it to the guarded hoops in the pitch; the Bludger is an iron ball that is use in hitting any players to knock them down; and the Golden Snitch is a small golden ball with wings that flies around the pitch almost unnoticeable, whoever captures the Golden Snitch wins the game. I know, that is pretty exciting game I wish we have that in real life. Anyway, just minutes ago, I’ve read in some internet news that Quidditch is now a sandwich in Canada. The reports said it’s a moose meat sandwich with pickles and mayonnaise and that the sandwich bar called Kinnicka-Noodle Muggle-Mat has not taken off yet. We don’t know yet the authenticity of this report/news about the quidditch sandwich. Quidditch – A Wizarding Sports and A Sandwich? is a post from: Daily World Buzz Continue reading

Hard Boiled Eggs and Deviled Eggs to Celebrate Easter Sunday

Hard Boiled Eggs and Deviled Eggs to Celebrate Easter Sunday – In celebration of the Easter Sunday, people might be thinking of the Easter Egg Hunting and so as well with the Easter Bunny Tracker 2010. One of the best way to celebrate the Easter Sunday is to have an Easter Egg Hunting in where your kids can participate and enjoy the game as well. But the question is, when you are making hard boiled eggs, how long is a question that can make or break your hard boiled egg adventures. For most of us, making hard-boiled eggs seems simple: put eggs in boiling water for a certain period of time, and then pull them out. We have all had that question though. “Hard boiled eggs, how long do we cook you?” The answer can be very simple – about 15 – 20 minutes. However, if you want hard boiled eggs that aren’t tough and rubbery and don’t have a green ring around the middle, it is easy and can be done in less time than it takes to get payday loans. Hard boiled eggs dyed with pickled beet juice are one of the dishes that I simply must have for spring. I think certain holidays and certain seasons really cry out for specific food dishes. On the other hand, kids love to color them and make all different kinds of designs on them. You can do a search online and find some pretty neat designs for hard boiled eggs. Decorating your Easter eggs is one of the best and easiest things you can do this Easter Sunday. Now heres a recipe for you on how to prepare a Pepper Deviled Eggs: Ingredients: 6 hard boiled eggs, cooled and peeled 1 teaspoon whole pink peppercorns, divided 1/2 teaspoon whole white peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon whole black peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon whole green peppercorns 1/2 teaspoon caper liquid 1/4 cup mayonnaise 1 teaspoon Dijon mustard 1/4 teaspoon kosher salt Pinch sugar Preparation: Slice the eggs in half from top to bottom. Scoop the yolks into a medium mixing bowl and lay the whites aside. Place all of the peppercorns, except 1/2 teaspoon of the pink peppercorns, into a spice grinder and process until ground well. Add the ground peppers, caper liquid, mayonnaise, mustard, salt, and sugar to the egg yolks and using a fork, stir to thoroughly combine. Place the mixture into a zip top plastic bag and cut a small hole at one of the corners. Pipe the mixture into each of the white halves. Coarsely grind the remaining 1/2 teaspoon of pink peppercorns and use to garnish the top of each egg. Chill for at least 1 hour in the refrigerator before serving.
