Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III Proclaimed Philippines’ Next President By Congress

According to the media reports on wednesday afternoon, Philippines’ Liberal Party presidential candidate Benigno Aquino III was officially proclaimed the country’s next President by the Philippine Congress. Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III is the winner of the Philippines’ 2010 presidential election after the joint Senate-House canvassing committee finished its tally of votes for president and vice president on Tuesday, garnering more than 15.2 million votes, 5.7 million votes more than his closest rival — former President Joseph Estrada, who secured less than 9. 5 million votes. For Philippines Vice President post, Jejomar Binay, former Makati City mayor as well as vice presidential candidate of the Philippine Democratic Party- People’s Power (PDP-Laban), was officially proclaimed Philippines’ next vice president by the Congress. Binay defeated his main opponent, Manuel Roxas II of the Liberal Party, with an advantage margin of more than 727,000 votes. On Wednesday, Joseph Estrada conceded defeat to Noynoy Aquino, shortly before the proclamation of the country’s next president. In a letter that was read on his behalf by one of his sons in the Congress, Estrada said that he will “extend support to Aquino”, and believes that Aquino has the mandate of the Filipino people. Philippines Comelec Proclaimed 3 Senators To Complete The 12 newly elected Senators

Philippines Commission of Election proclaimed today (1 PM, Tuesday) the winners of the last three (3) of the 12 spots as Senators until year of 2016. And these are: Former senator Sergio Osmeña III (independent/Liberal Party guest candidate) Incumbent Senator Manuel Lapid (Lakas-Kampi CMD) Bukidnon Rep. Teofisto Guingona III (Liberal Party) Despite the pending vacancy created by the election of Sen. Noynoy Aquino, the Comelec said it will not proclaim a 13th senator. According to the Comelec which is sitting as the NBOC, Osmeña held on to 10th place with 11,583,854 votes (as of late Monday), while Lapid and Guingona remained at 11th and 12th place, with 10,971,045 and 10,200,293 votes respectively. Akbayan Rep. Ana Theresia “Risa” Hontiveros-Baraquel remained at 13th place with 9,041,494 votes. Behind Hontiveros are Muntinlupa Rep. Rozzano “Ruffy” Biazon with 8,566,631 votes and Jose de Venecia III with 8,317,528 votes. They ranked 14th and 15th, respectively. Updated as of 2:57 PM Philippine Standard Time, May 12, 2010. This is the latest partial unofficial results of the May 12, 2010 National Elections from the Commission on Elections (COMELEC). The figures shown below comprises the 89.90% of the total election returns from clustered polling precincts in the Philippines. Still, the survey frontrunner and son of former president Cory Aquino leads the race followed by the former 13th President of the Philippines Joseph Ejercito Estrada. Earlier this morning, the Comission on Election announced that this will be the last announcement of the partial and unofficial results of the elections. The congress, who has the power to proclaim the winners will be announcing the final figures if the 100% of the total election returns are already canvassed.
