The US research suggests eating nuts may help lower cholesterol levels. In the review of 25 studies which involve almost 600 people showed that eating on an average of 67grams of nuts can reduce cholesterol levels by about 7.4%. According to the US Loma Linda University team, nuts may help prevent the absorption of cholesterol. UK experts said that nuts were an essential part of a healthy diet. However, they warned against eating nuts coated in sugar or salt. Nuts also reduced the amount of triglyceride, which is a type of blood fat that has been associated to heart diseases. In the study which was conducted, the people involved ate 67 grams of nuts per day on average for the period of three to eight weeks. But, the impact was least pronounced among the overweight. Joan Sabate, lead researcher, suggests increasing nut consumption as part of a healthy diet should be recommended. The study was conducted by independent researchers and it was partly funded by the International Tree Nut Council Nutrition Research and Education Foundation.
