Yes, pet raccoon… Michigan Girl Gets Reconstructed Nose After Raccoon Mauled Her Charlotte Ponce can’t spend her summer the way most 10-year-old girls do. “I can’t ride my bike, I can’t be out in the sun,” she told the Royal Oak Patch. Swimming and ice cream are out too. But she’s not complaining, because thanks to a surgical miracle, she’s on her way to having a new face. Charlotte was just 3 months old when her family’s pet raccoon got into her crib and mauled her as she lay unattended. The animal, attracted by milk from Charlotte’s bottle, gnawed away her nose, her right ear and part of her lips and cheekbones. After undergoing the first stage of nose reconstructive surgery last week, she showed off her new nose Wednesday. Dr. Kongkrit Chaiyasate, who did the procedure, said he was “very pleased with the result,” according to the Detroit News. He used skin from her forearm to construct a new nose. Charlotte will recover from the first surgery for six to eight weeks before undergoing the next phase, which will give it a solid structure. It’s going to be a long road ahead of this little girl, but hopefully modern medicine will allow her to lead a full and productive life. Image via AP/NYDaily Source Continue reading
