DJ AM — whose real name is Adam Goldstein — has died. He was 36.

He was found dead in his New York City apartment Friday afternoon, Usmagazine.com confirms.
Four days before his death, he Tweeted, “New york, new york. Big city of dreams, but everything in new york aint always what it seems.”

After battling his own drug addictions and surviving a tragic plane crash, the celebrity DJ signed on to do an intervention-style reality show, called Gone Too Far on MTV back in April. Earlier this month, he began promoting the series, for which he was to be present throughout the intervention process.
Last year, he revealed that he was abused by his father, became addicted to drugs and had attempted suicide. He said he attended recovery meetings and has been sober for about a decade.

In September, he was critically injured after a Learjet caught fire during an aborted takeoff in South Carolina. After surviving the accident that left four others dead, the star — who survived along with Blink-182 drummer Travis Barker — said he was “the luckiest guy alive.”
