Alan Thicke Dies; Beloved TV Star Was 69

Alan Thicke, a veteran actor best known and beloved for his role as the patriarch on Growing Pains, died suddenly on Tuesday afternoon. He was 69 years old. According to TMZ, Thicke was playing hockey with his 19-year-old son, Carter, when he collapsed, seemingly of a heart attack. He was transported to Providence St. Joseph’s Medical Center around noon and pronounced dead by doctors at that facility. The star often played hockey at a rink in Burbank, California. Sources confirm to TMZ that he and Carter were on the ice around 11 a.m. when Thicke began experiencing chest pain; he the got nauseous and vomited. The ambulance picked the actor up around a half hour later and took him to the hospital.  Thicke received a 1988 Golden Globes nomination for his portraual of Jason Seaver, Growing Pains. A decade later, he was nominated for a Daytime Emmy as a co-producer for the game show Pictionary. More recently, the actor – who was the father of singer Robin Thicke, along with two other kids – and his family starred on the reality show, Unusually Thicke. He also appeared as himself on This Is Us Season 1 Episode 1 . Expect plenty of celebrity condolences to pour in over the coming days and weeks, but here is what a handful of those who knew Thicke well had to say upon learning this sad news: Ellen DeGeneres : America loved Alan Thicke. I’m so sad he’s gone. Sending so much love to his family. Larry King : So sorry to hear of the passing of Alan Thicke. A wonderful talent, a wonderful man. Bob Saget : So sad is the passing of Alan Thicke. Such a good husband, father, brother, and friend. He will be deeply missed. Rest in peace dear Alan. Demi Lovato : Had the pleasure of meeting Alan Thicke and his amazing wife Tanya a few years back.. my thoughts and prayers are with his family. RIP.
