Add Madonna to the list of those who thought M.I.A.’s actions during halftime of Super Bowl XVLI were stupid and childish. A few days after she anchored a mostly positively-reviewed show , The Material Girl called in to On Air with Ryan Seacrest and reacted to M.I.A’s action as follows: “I was really surprised. I didn’t know anything about it. I wasn’t happy about it. “I understand it’s punk rock and everything, but to me there was such a feeling of love and good energy, and positivity, it seemed negative. It’s such a teenager… irrelevant thing to do.. here was such a feeling of love and unity there. What was the point?” M.I.A. Gives the Finger In a separate interview, Madonna later told Carson Daly that M.I.A. did call her to apologize, but the iconic artist concluded of the action: “It was just out of place.”
