Hollywood came to a screeching, shocking, heartbreaking stop one year ago yesterday when Robin Williams committed suicide at his home in California. In news that remains unsettling to write about, the beloved actor hanged himself after a failed attempt to slit hit wrists. Sarah Michelle Gellar, who co-starred with Williams for a season on CBS’ The Crazy Ones, penned a moving tribute to her colleague shortly after his passing. And she did so again last night on Instagram, exactly 365 days after the world lost an entertainment icon. Along with a picture of the bench from Good Will Hunting, which has since been turned into a makeshift memorial for the comedian, Gellar wrote: To laugh often and much; to win the respect of the intelligent people and the affection of children; to earn the appreciation of honest critics and endure the betrayal of false friends; to appreciate beauty; to find the beauty in others; To leave the world a bit better wether[sic] by a healthy child, a garden patch, or a redeemed social condition; to know that one life has breathed easier because you lived here. This is to have succeeded. You succeeded RW. Gellar is quoting Ralph Waldo Emerson here. And she’s doing it in perfect fashion.
