Assembly passes Chelsea's Law: mandatory life sentences for violent sex crimes against kids Chelsea's Law would give molesters life terms Monday, August 30, 2010 Chelsea King (KABC Photo) . SACRAMENTO (KABC) — Certain child molesters in California would be sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole under a bill lawmakers have sent to Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger. The bill passed unanimously Monday in the state Assembly. It was named after 17-year-old Chelsea King, who was murdered in a San Diego County park this year. A convicted child molester pleaded guilty to raping and killing King and 14-year-old Amber Dubois. Republican Assemblyman Nathan Fletcher of San Diego, the bill's author, says the legislation is an attempt to remove some evil from the streets of California. Adult predators who kidnap, drug, bind and torture or use a weapon while committing a sex crime against a child would face life in prison without parole. added by: EthicalVegan
