But Burns contested one of the invoices in early 2015 – and Brank started sending him a series of threatening messages, vowing to publicize lurid details about their encounters. Petrified about what would come out, Burns, who is openly gay, wired Brank $500,000 and gave him his $180,000 Audi sports car. Finally, when Brank’s demands for another $500,000 persisted, Burns’ lawyers contacted the FBI – and Brank was ambushed and arrested in an LA Starbucks. Brank, a Romania native, was convicted of extortion in July. During the trial, Brank testified in court that he had a connection to billionaire philanthropist David Geffen but did not wish to elaborate out of fear for his own safety. Yikes.
