A canal cuts through a peat land forest at the palm oil plantation of PT SMART on Borneo island. Golden Agri-Resources (GAR) and its subsidiary SMART, Indonesia#39;s biggest palm oil producers, have pledged to follow new standards to protect carbon-rich forests and peatlands, in a move cautiously welcomed by environmentalists including Greenpeace. Mainboard-listed Golden Agri-Resources said its fourth quarter net profit has more than doubled to US$1.17 billion for the period ended December 31.
