Hewlett-Packard Bought Palm For $1bn In Cash

The computer giant company Hewlett-Packard (HP) has bought Palm, which is a pioneer in the smartphone business, for $1bn (£657m) cash. According to HP, Palm’s webOS operating system would help it expand more aggressively in the fast-growing market for smart phones and connected mobile devices. The deal values the company at $1.2bn if Palm’s debt is included. HP is paying $5.70 for each Palm share and the company hopes to complete the deal at the end of July. Last year Palm has unveiled and released a well-reviewed touch-screen phone which is called the Pre, but unfortunately, it did not hit its target sales. Palm has been struggling in recent years to compete in a market which is dominated by two large companies, the Apple and Blackberry.
