Mauritania: Obesity Is A Sign A Husband Cares For His Wife

Fat loss, weight reduction, diet regimen and pills have flooded the internet to help people win their battle against obesity. But in Mauritania, this isn’t a problem at all. Obesity is so revered in their country wherein young girls are being force-fed by parents or even sent-out to fat-farms to become fat and beautiful. Fat is considered as a sign of wealth and being thin is considered a sign of poverty and would not be respected. According to Fatematou, rotund woman in her sixties who runs a kind of “fat farm” in the northern desert town of Atar said: “I make them eat lots of dates, lots and lots of couscous and other fattening food. I make them eat and eat and eat. And then drink lots and lots of water. I make them do this all morning. Then they have a rest. In the afternoon we start again. We do this three times a day – the morning, the afternoon and the evening.” Girls in the fat farm could end up  weighing between 60 to 100 kilograms, “with lots of layers of fat.” “When they are small they don’t understand, but when they grow up they are fat and beautiful,” she said. “They are proud and show off their good size to make men dribble. Don’t you think that’s good?” Obesity is seen as a sign a husband cares for his wife. Mauritania: Obesity Is A Sign A Husband Cares For His Wife is a post from: Daily World Buzz
