Floyd Mayweather wins Welterweight Championship! This fight has been one of the most anticipated boxing event. So here’s a full turn of events written by Chris Mannix of Sports Illustrated . 10:59 p.m. EST — We’re about 20 minutes from the opening bell. Ring is cleared after Golden Boy Promotions’ top prospect finished a ninth-round TKO of Jose Cotto. The buzz is starting to grow here at the MGM Grand. Lots of anticipation for this fight. 11:06 p.m. EST — Muhammad Ali gets a thundering ovation as the last of a long list of celebrities introduced. Lot of ex-fighters (Sugar Ray Leonard, Tommy Hearns, Mike Tyson) in the house, showing just how legit this fight really is! 11:10 p.m. — Consensus among media members here is that Mayweather wins by decision. Some give Mosley a chance at a knockout, a nod toward acknowledging Mosley as Floyd’s toughest opponent, to date. But no one I have talked to is picking Shane. 11:15 p.m. — Has Floyd officially reached the realm of first name only superstars? Is he up there with Michael, Magic, Larry and Ali? I wonder … 11:18 p.m. — Props to HBO for superb programming (24/7 is terrific), but they have way too many breaks between fights. I could have gone to the Monte Carlo and had a cigar at Andre’s in the amount of time we’re waiting for the main event. 11:20 p.m. — Ask and you shall receive. Ring announcer Michael Buffer has grabbed the mic, national anthem time. And it’s … Chris Brown? 11:22 p.m. — Talented kid, Chris Brown. But he’s been in the news for all the wrong reasons. Questionable call there. 11:23 p.m. — Lights are down. Mosley is the first to head to the ring. Preceded by a montage of his greatest hits. Cool stuff. … Mosley’s entrance song: ‘Till I Collapse, by Eminem. Cool and maybe a little foreboding. 11:27 p.m. — Oscar De La Hoya in the ring with his business partner. No one seems to know where De La Hoya has been all week. I tried to grab him today, but he ducked me. Was told he was golfing in the afternoon but … what promoter golfs on the day of his company’s biggest fight? 11:28 p.m. — Hilarious. Mayweather still in his dressing room. Making Mosley wait. … Mayweather enters to a live rendition of Money, Money, Money by the O.J.’s. Explosions going off in the arena. Mayweather is a piece of work. He stayed buried in the back to avoid the ear-splitting sound of the pops. Gamesmanship at its best. 11:31 p.m. — Both fighters in the ring. Smoke slowly clearing. Both guys look confident, for what that’s worth. 11:32 p.m. — Floyd Sr. yapping with Mosley. Mosley taps him on the arm. Remember, those two are past allies from when Mayweather Sr. was training De La Hoya. 11:33 p.m. — Blog favorite Cheapo Tony has checked in. He’s taking Mayweather by a unanimous decision. Little worried when often wrong Cheapo Tony calls it the same as I do. 11:34 p.m. — Strong ovation for Mosley. Lot of boos for Mayweather, which is par for the course for Floyd. He loves playing the villain. Like the perfect WWE character. 11:35 p.m. — Here we go! Round 1 — Both fighters circle. Mosley not playing the aggressor early. Good left by Floyd. Mosley wings a left hook. Hard right by Mayweather. Mosley slips and goes down. No knockdown. Mosley slips a jab in. Lot of tie ups early. Hard counter left by Mayweather. Good combination by Mayweather. Mosley not jabbing enough. Mayweather 10-9 Round 2 — Mosley rushes Mayweather and nearly knocks him over. Mosley keeps rushing in, hard right by Mosley! Floyd holds on. Looks a little hurt, to be honest. Another right by Mosley. Floyd buckles again! Good right by Floyd. Floyd finishes strong but that was Shane’s round. 10-9 Mosley Round 3 — Floyd warned early for a low blow. strong counter by Floyd moves Mosley back. Good jabs by both fighters. A lot of tie ups early in this one. Good right hand by Floyd. Close, but give it to Mayweather. 10-9 Mayweather Round 4 — Floyd just misses on a concussive right hand. Both fighters using the jab a little more. Mayweather more the aggressor in this one, interestingly. Hard right by Floyd. Good combination by Floyd. Mosley not hurt. Mosley’s hands lowered a little in this round. 10-9 Mayweather Round 5 — Mosley twirling the left, looking for an opening. Floyd retreats and clocks Mosley with a counter right. Mosley’s face a little red now. Mayweather more aggressive, winging a few combinations. Dull round, give it to Floyd. 10-9 Mayweather Round 6 — Mayweather’s jab is very effective. He is slipping it in a lot. Hard right hand by Floyd! Mosley keeps coming forward but that was Floyd’s best punch of the night.Great counter combination by Mayweather. Shane’s mouth is open. Floyd’s shots have sound to them. Thudding sound. Another round for Mayweather. 10-9 Mayweather Round 7 — Mosley slips a right in at the start. Good combination by Floyd. Hard right snaps Mosley’s head back. Another hard right! Mayweather in control here. Snap jab hits Mosley again. Clear round for Floyd. 10-9 Mayweather Round 8 — Shane trying to bully Mayweather. Getting a little desperate. Hard right by Floyd. Shane talking, Floyd yapping right back. Crowd now fully behind Floyd. Hard counter right by Mayweather. Another hard right by Mayweather! Mosley winks at the HBO crew. Dominating round by Mayweather. 10-9 Mayweather Round 9 — Slow action in the first minute. Clenching in the second minute. Hard right by Mayweather. Mosley’s head is wide open anytime Floyd wants to hit it. Series of rights by Floyd bump Mosley’s skull. Not the prettiest round, but Floyd’s round. 10-9 Mayweather. Round 10 — Mosley sits on his chair for an extra second. Mayweather batters Mosley with a combination. Mosley really wobbly out there. Rack another one up for Mayweather. Round 11 — Shane’s movement is all vertical, no side to side action at all. His corner is screaming at him to attack. Hard right again by Mayweather. My colleagues on press row agree: This is a bigger beating than he put on Juan Manuel Marquez. Shane throwing chopping punches, looking for the one-punch knockout. Bell rings, another round for Mayweather. 10-9 Mayweather Round 12 — Mosley aggressive, looking for the knockout. Floyd continues to counter brilliantly. His punches are so precise. Dull finish. 10-9 Mayweather Scorecard: SI.com scores the fight 119-109 for Mayweather. 12:26 a.m. — Shutout victory for Mayweather. Two judges gave him 11 rounds, one gave 10.
