Iran has banned the mullet after producing a catalogue of un-Islamic hairstyles that deviate from the government-approved short back and sides. Ponytails, elaborate spikes, quiffs and floppy fringes are also deemed to be “decadent Western cuts” by the nation's culture ministry. A dab of gel, however, is ok and a beard is not a compulsory symbol of religious devotion.
