The New Peace Bridge: A New Tourist Attraction in Foyle

A stunning new and unique tourist attraction has been unfolded on the River Foyle, where local residents are so fascinated with Derry’s third bridge. Everyday, local people on River Foyle gather to see the improvement and progress of the peace bridge. It is expected to be ready before this year ends. The bridge will cater pedestrians and cyclist to and from the city side and waterside. The construction of this bridge started last year, where a gigantic crane with its powerful hammer brought huge steel piles into the riverbed. The noise it produced had irritated some of the residents in Waterside, but now it’s all done and it’s peaceful again. According to engineer Declan McCaughan from Graham’s construction company, the big steel piles about 30 in total numbers, are now flecked across the River Foyle. These piles are very essential to the success of the bridge because they serve as the main foundation for the bridge and also they carry the total weight of the finished bridge. The huge piles measured about 24 meters and are brought into the river bottom for about an average of 10 or 11 meters. The upper part of the pile was later filled with concrete. The concrete portion then forms the base where the actual structure is being placed, in which the bridge is bolted to. This then carries and contains the entire weight of the bridge. The large concrete sections have been ordered all the way from Wales and soon it will be arriving. The large concrete sections will form the deck of the bridge. Since it is a powerful piece of art, it will definitely attract more people along the shoreline footpath. Nuala Griffiths Grham’s spokesperson revealed that the bridge costs almost £13m, and everything is going according to plan. She has already had the chance to see the stunning views from 30 meters high in the sky, when she rode the huge crane. She admits that the views are so beautiful and really breathtaking. The people responsible for this project envision it as a representation of the future, a shared future. The fun runners also had the taste of great pleasure completing a circuit of the existing Foyle and Craigavon bridges. They were all delighted while huffing and puffing as they run along the bridge. The number of spectators is increasing each day. People gather to enjoy the city’s new bridge, a bridge that snakes across the River Foyle.
