In a joint statement sent to MTV, the couple claimed that the breakup is amicable. “After careful consideration, we have made the difficult decision to file for divorce,” reads the statement from Simpson and Wentz. “We remain friends and deeply committed and loving parents to our son, Bronx, whose happiness and well-being remains our number one priority. We ask that everyone honor our privacy as we navigate this next phase of our lives.” Some sources close to Simpson and Wentz report that things are quite calm in the midst of their impending divorce. “It’s very amicable. They’re on very friendly terms and speaking — it’s fine,” an insider told People.com. “They’ve just grown apart. They’ve been growing apart for quite some time.” However, sources close to the couple tell TMZ a different story. A Wentz source says that the ex-Fall Out Boy bassist did not want to separate from his wife. He reportedly tried to reconcile with Simpson, but she was not interested in that and filed for the divorce against his wishes. TMZ posted photos of Wentz out and about in Dallas over the weekend, where he was hanging out during the Super Bowl festivities. Showing no signs of marital woes, Wentz was spotted smiling and still wearing his wedding ring. While insiders have maintained the split is drama-free, TMZ further reports that Simpson left because of Wentz’s antics. “It’s really all about Pete’s erratic behavior,” a source said. “She really wanted out.” An UsMagazine.com source explains that Simpson felt trapped by marrying at such a young age. “Ashlee loves Bronx but jumped into marriage and having a baby too quickly,” one friend said. “They feel they got trapped in a situation they were too young for.” What do you think about Ashlee’s split with Pete?
