Bruno Mars Tweets Excitement About VMA Nominations

With four nominations, Mars gives props to his choreographers, congratulates his competitors and urges ‘hooligans’ to vote. By Gil Kaufman Bruno Mars Photo: Getty Images Wednesday was a good day for Bruno Mars . The singer/songwriter, who has been on an epic roll over the past 12 months, got some seriously great news when it was revealed that he scored four nominations for this year’s MTV Video Music Awards . The man behind Cee Lo Green’s epic hit “Forget You,” not to mention hits by Travie McCoy and his own smashes such as “Just the Way You Are” and “The Lazy Song,” was beside himself when the news hit, tweeting a series of responses to his first-ever VMA noms . “VMAs!!!!” he wrote just as the announcements were going out, followed by “4 Nominations!?!?!?! THANK YOU @MTV.” He also gave some serious props to the “America’s Best Dance Crew” troupe Poreotics, who appeared disguised as monkeys in his “Lazy Song” video, which was nominated in the Best Choreography category. “YO @POREOTICS – LAZY SONG NOMINATED FOR BEST CHOREOGRAPHY!! #VMAs #MoNKeySwAG!!” he wrote. He had plenty of reason to celebrate, since the moody, piano-dragging video for “Grenade” is up for Video of the Year, competing against top nominee Katy Perry (“Firework”), Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Tyler the Creator (“Yonkers”) and the Beastie Boys (“Make Some Noise”). He gave shout-outs to the competition in that battle, saying, “@mtvnews @f—tyler @katyperry @beastieboys Damn!! All great videos!! Congrats to you guys. #SeriousCompetition.” “Grenade” is also in contention in the Best Male Video category, where it will face off against Green’s “Forget You,” Eminem and Rihanna’s “Love the Way You Lie,” Kanye West’s “All of the Lights,” and Justin Bieber’s “U Smile.” Mars’ fourth nomination is in the Best Pop Video race, where he faces Adele (“Rolling in the Deep”), Britney Spears (“Till the World Ends”), Perry (“Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.)” and Pitbull (“Give Me Everything”). At the end of the day, Mars just found it all hard to believe. “But seriously?? Who drags a piano across town in some church shoes??? The Brunz does!!! HOOLIGANS VOTE!!!” he encouraged his fans. Britney Spears Offers A Glimpse At Femme Fatale Stage

‘It’s beautiful,’ pop star says in an online video as she sees the setup for the first time. By Jocelyn Vena Britney Spears Photo: Getty Wondering what the Femme Fatale Tour will look like when it kicks off next week? Well, wonder no more! Britney Spears offered up a tease of the stage in a new video posted online. “Oh my God!” she squealed walking into the room seeing the setup for the first time. “I love it!” Spears walked the stage with her managers, giving fans a taste of what’s to come once the shows kick off June 16 in Sacramento, California, with opening act Nicki Minaj . The stage has it all: lights, video screens, a funky neon-colored floor, lasers, lifts and giant butterfly wings. “It’s beautiful,” Spears said as she listened to her music blast over the loud speakers and checked out the way the lights and video would play during what appears to be a reworked version of “Hold It Against Me” that included more electric guitar. “The Femme Fatale Tour will hopefully just be outrageously spectacular,” Spears recently said about the multi-city arena tour. “I’m just hoping that the choreographers will come up with just the most outrageous things, and I’m really excited. … This is one of the most excited I’ve been about a project in a really long time, so I can’t wait.” Minaj is just as excited about the tour, and she knows she has to go big to match the spectacle of a Britney show. “I’m just trying to put more theater on that stage. So much to me is music, but it’s also about putting on a show, so that’s my goal: to truly put on a show and incorporate theater and dance,” she explained. “I think it’s pretty easy to take it to the next level … I think I’m nowhere close to where I could be as far as my shows have been.” Spears’ longtime manager Larry Rudolph teased the tour’s theme months ago when he spoke to us in Las Vegas before Spears played a mini-set for an excited room of fans at the Palms Hotel and Casino. Even then, Rudolph knew Brit’s track “Till the World Ends” would play into the theme. ” ‘Till the World Ends’ keeps becoming a theme for us,” he said back in March. “The way we come up with a concept for a show like this is we sit with Britney, she talks to us about what she’s interested in and what excites her. We start with the songs on the album; we start with coming up with general, broad concepts. She tells us what interests her and excites her.” Will you check out the Britney Spears tour? ‘Spider-Man’ Musical Star Talks Production Delays And Fighting Fear

‘To give the kind of performance you want to give, there’s no room for fear,’ T.V. Carpio tells MTV News. By Eric Ditzian T.V. Carpio Photo: Dario Cantatore/ WireImage “Things are constantly changing. It’s a very creative process,” T.V. Carpio told MTV News, explaining the seemingly ever-shifting nature of “Spider-Man: Turn Off the Dark.” For some observers on the outside looking in, that might come off as spin, an “it’s all good” mentality meant to calm the public while inside the musical’s playhouse, “Spider-Man” continues to struggle to find its creative footing. But to Carpio, it’s all part of the inspirational process of working with Julie Taymor, the visionary behind the “Lion King” musical and films like 2007’s “Across the Universe.” “You have to be down to jump, because Julie is always having these crazy visions,” said Carpio, who took on the role of the villainess Arachne after the original actress left the production. “She’s amazing like that, and you just have to go with it.” Still, there’s no doubting that the cast of “Turn Off the Dark” has had a lot to just go with. From multiple delays in the show’s official Broadway debut to highly publicized safety issues and injuries, the musical is being buzzed about for all the wrong reasons. Recent reports suggest fresh behind-the-scenes talent is being welcomed into the fold. Carpio, however, denied reports that Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, a playwright and comics writer, has been hired to work on script issues . “I haven’t heard anything about a writer joining us. Whenever they do change anything, they make an announcement to the cast,” she said. “They told us that all the rumors, if we haven’t been told about them, aren’t true.” The cast has been working closely with musical supervisor Paul Bogaev, one of Taymor’s longtime collaborators, to enhance various musical numbers. “There aren’t any new songs,” Carpio said. “Paul’s just working with the songs we already have. Yesterday, he helped write a new part for my monologue in the second act. And we put in a new flight. He’s just another set of outside eyes helping sculpt what’s already there. But he is the only new one who’s actually there and working. “Although it’s new, because he hasn’t worked on ‘Spider-Man’ all along, Julie works with a lot of the same people,” she added. “The family we have working on the music — the choreographers, dancers, actors — is sort of like the family from ‘Across the Universe.’ It didn’t feel crazy, like, ‘Who’s this guy?’ It was like, ‘Oh hey, Paul!’ ” Through all the changes, Carpio said she’s kept anxiety at bay — the original Arachne, Natalie Mendoza, dropped out after suffering a concussion during a high-flying stunt — and focused on the task at hand: delivering an entertaining Broadway experience. “To give the kind of performance you want to give, there’s no room for fear. There’s always adrenaline, but it’s not about fear. You just have to trust you can do it,” she said. “I don’t care about what goes on outside. I can’t control what people say; I can only control my performance. That’s the only thing I can give.” For breaking news and previews of the latest comic book movies — updated around the clock — visit SplashPage.MTV.com .
