Pooljumpers – Wet, Wild, and Wonderful Mockumentary

Filed under: Humor , Videos Twee documentaries about boys doing sporty boy things have been on the cultural horizon for years. From moments in skating and skiing to moments in camping and surfing, the feel-good docs are perfectly good fodder for parody, which is where Pooljumpers comes in. A trailer for the fake documentary follows a group of rag-tag boys whose discovery of entering pools by way of not just jumping strikes a chord or, rather, a funny bone in all of us. Lives are shared, bonds are broken and splashes are messy. Plus, “Reverse Jaws ,” hehe. Share via:// Joe Mande Continue reading

$500 Wasted on eBay Lingerie (Internet Horror Stories)

Filed under: Internet Horror Stories Several years ago, I was unemployed and looking for a way to make money. After doing a little research (too little, I must admit), I discovered that plus-sized lingerie was a hot seller online. I browsed the Internet and found a wholesale lingerie supplier who sold what I needed. I freed my credit card from its hidden location, removed the dust, and placed an order for $500.00 worth of frilly plus-sized lingerie. Then, I set up an eBay store and waited for my shipment to arrive. The next day, I received a phone call from the supplier. Item by item, the representative told me that my selections were out of stock. He informed me that he could send replacement items of the same values. I happily agreed. I just wanted my merchandise as soon as possible so that I could start building my empire. When the lingerie arrived, it was several sizes smaller than I had hoped. It was still lovely sherbet-colored lingerie, so I still expected it to sell vigorously. I took pictures, created listings and waited for the orders to roll in. They never did. Even when I lowered the prices of the items and included free shipping, the merchandise still sat unwanted in boxes in my basement. Eventually, I donated all those thongs and baby-dolls to charity. I hope someone is enjoying them. Share It took me a year to pay off my credit card. previously:// More Internet Horror Stories on Urlesque Continue reading

Mad Genius Builds SimCity Mecca (Video)

Filed under: Videos , Gaming While you were gunning down zombies on Mars, Vincent Ocasla, an architecture student living in the Philippines, constructed a city to support 6 million people in Sim City 3000 . In an interview with Vice , Vincent explains how he was inspired by Buddhism and the movie Koyaanisqatsi . But are his Sims happy? He doesn’t care! They don’t rebel, or cause revolutions and social chaos. No one considers challenging the system by physical means since a hyper-efficient police state keeps them in line. They have all been successfully dumbed down, sickened with poor health, enslaved and mind-controlled just enough to keep this system going for thousands of years. 50,000 years to be exact. They are all imprisoned in space and time. Woof. Share via:// Viceland Continue reading

SMBC Theater Creates the Perfect MMORPG (The One)

Filed under: Videos , Gaming , The One Saturday Morning Breakfast Cereal is a great webcomic and it’s also a live-action web show (called SMBC Theater ) that occasionally displays flashes of brilliance. Recently, SMBC Theater skewered the phenomenon of massively multiplayer online roleplaying games — think World of Warcraft — in what might be the best episode yet. Even better, they’ve put their fake MMO online, so you can play it for yourself. The game is just a giant “Click Me” button that gives you a point every time you click. As one character says, “It’s like an MMO, but they stripped out all the pointless bells and whistles.” MMORPGs are a really easy target, but online gaming addiction has come back in a big way with Facebook games like Farmville, so the phenomenon is ripe for mockery once again. The funny part is that the leaderboard of the fake game has some seriously huge numbers of clicks. Whether it’s WoW , Farmville or just clicking, I guess we all just want to collect points. Pew Pew Pew – The Greatest Lasers in Internet History (Photos and Videos)

Filed under: Humor , Videos , Photos , Art / Design Lasers are an awesome upgrade to almost any situation. You could fire laser beams out of anything and it’d be mildly amusing for a little while. Let’s take a laser-guided look at some of the more popular lasers in the history of the internet. Every day you see something and probably think, “Needs more lasers!” Well, the internet has all kinds of lasers — it’s like you’re standing on the sun and staring into the eyes of the mutant Cyclops. Lasers are great for single topic blogs, concerts and holiday videos. The only thing cooler would be laser beams with lasers shooting out of them. If you’ve seen other epic lasers on the internet, send us a tip or link them in the comments. Hundreds of Laser Pointers and The Flaming Lips (Est. 2006) During a concert in 2006, The Flaming Lips combined a sweet glowing orb with laser pointers. The video result is known to the web as “Jet Threads of the Red Sun.” Laser Harps (e.g., Beamz ) Block the beam and cue a sound. Add in some elaborate hand movements, a little bit of posing and in no time you’ll have an infectiously cheesy stage act. Jean Michel Jarre in concert. Beamz LASER PORTRAITS (Est. Sept. 2008) The official title is “We have Lasers!!!!!!,” but this Tumblr from our Urlbot Lindsey does the noble job of collecting embarrassing laser portraits. The go-to premiere background for School Picture Day in the 80s and 90s was the laser effect. Sure, you could get the plain gray background, but for just a few bucks more you could have lasers! These hip kids couldn’t pass up the explosive punch of lasers. Dino-Riders (Est. 1988) Only 14 episodes of Dino-Riders were produced, but this image will live on forever as one of The Awesomest Things That Will Ever Exist. Pew Pew Pew (Est. 2006) Pew Pew Pew is an onomatopoeia for the sound lasers make in pop culture. Babies With Laser Eyes (Est. Feb. 2010) It may be the stuff of science fiction, but babies with laser eyes could become a reality if women aren’t careful about what they eat during pregnancy. If babies start to come out of the womb emitting blinding light from their eyes, we can all look back at this blog to see the moment when laser babies started to take over the world. Shoop Da Whoop ” IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZER ” (Est. 2006) Boooooooom! This image meme consists of a Dragonball Z character named Cell superimposed on pics and videos, shouting “SHOOP DA WHOOP,” “IMMA FIRIN MAH LAZER.” The Original Dragonball Z version The Meme-ified Version Robot Dinosaurs [The G ame] (Est. Apr. 2009) They really do shoot beams when they roar. Animals Shooting Lasers [Videos] (Est. 2010) Lasers videos have the advantage of also including awesome sound effects. This immaculate video collection features lasers shooting out of cats, cockatiels and chinchillas. LASERT*TS NSFW! (Est. Mar. 2010) This NSFW site is an incredibly obvious addition to the laser lexicon that we’re surprised hasn’t existed before this year. Certainly some young entrepreneur with a vision for single topic blogs will take this idea to the next logical NSFW location. Laser Cats (Est. Apr. 2006) These SNL Digital Shorts capitalized on the cross-breeding of lasers and cats. “There are two things that everyone loves, cats and lasers!” The cat obsessed internet kind of loved it. Laser Sailing This is the most misleading and disappointing use of lasers ever created. Share Continue reading

Our 26 Favorite "Haters Gonna Hate" Images

Filed under: Humor , MemeTracker As far as we know, it all started with this innocuous animated gif of a chubby little fop with a confident stride. The gif quickly morphed into a series of image macros with the following characteristics: 1. The subject must be in mid-stride or engaged in some kind of linear motion, as though saying “I’m on my way to the top, just try to stop me.” 2. The subject must have some ridiculous characteristic, like a goofy hat or a zany unicycle. This emphasizes the idea that the hatee has a reason to be hated on. 3. The caption “Haters Gonna Hate” or a similar phrase must be included. The phrase originates from hip-hop culture, most notably 3LW’s song ‘ Playas Gon’ Play .’ It denotes self-assured indifference to the “hate” of others. It’s another way of saying, “I might look silly, but I don’t care what other people think of me so I’m going to hold my head high.” After the jump, some of our favorite “Haters Gonna Hate” images and, remember, they’re just jealous of your swagger. Comedy Group Parodies Stephen Baldwin’s Plea for Money

Filed under: Humor , Videos , Movies , Television Last week, failed actor turned fundamentalist Christian Stephen Baldwin launched a YouTube plea for people to send him money in order to show those pinko Hollywood fat cats that a righteous man can’t be beaten down. Comparing Stephen to the long-suffering Biblical figure known as Job , a man who suffered unimaginable diseases and the loss of everything he knew and loved, the video made it difficult for bloggers to figure out if it was real or some kind of bizarre viral marketing for South Park or whatever. Comedy group The Big Honkin have released a parody video that exposes the whole thing for the scam that it is. It’s called Restore Joss Whedon and it burns. Watch both videos after the jump. (Warning: Contains Swears!) And here’s the cringe-worthy original video: Share Continue reading
