Doctors will attempt to reattach the arm of a man from Long Island, N.Y. who was hit in the shoulder with a firework, severing his arm, police say. In a release Saturday evening, Suffolk Police said Eric Smith, 36, was using a three foot long metal tube to shoot “mortars” from the street across from his home in Islip Terrace on Long Island around 5:45 p.m. Saturday. As one of the explosives shot out of the launcher, it hit Smith “in the left arm, completely severing it from his shoulder.” Smith was rushed to hospital where he was listed in serious condition.
