Derek Jeter will soon end his professional baseball career. But it’s clear which occupation he should take on next: Hollywood screenwriter. The future Hall of Famer played his final home game tonight (and his final game overall at shortstop), finishing with three runs batted in, one run scored and, oh, the GAME-WINNING SINGLE IN THE BOTTOM OF THE NINTH. In truly ridiculous fashion that no one could possibly have seen coming, closer Dave Robertson blew a three-run lead in the top of the ninth, seemingly putting a damper on Jeter’s final appearance in the Bronx… … only for Jeter to step to the plate in the bottom half of the inning. With one out. And the game tied at 5. And for Jeter to line a single to right. And for the winning run to cross the plate. And for Jeter to be mobbed first by his current teammates and later by some of his beloved ex-teammates. Seriously amazing. Good luck topping that one, A Rod. FINAL SCORES: Yankees 6, Orioles 5.
