‘Black Women Film Summit’ Photos The inaugural Black Women Film Summit recently took place in Atlanta and brought together an astute and esteemed group of women celebrating their contributions to cinema. The Summit kicked off with a screening of Centric’s “Single Ladies” at Spelman College’s Cosby Auditorium Thursday hosted by Stacii Jae and Lamman Rucker that was attended by the cast of “Sorority Sisters”…. and the next day was the highly-anticipated “Untold Stories Luncheon,” which honored the achievements of casting director Robi Reed, 135th Street Agency founder Shante Bacon, Black Women Film Network Chairman Emeritus Tomika DePriest, Georgia Film & TV Sourcebook publisher Tia Powell and film producer Will Packer who posed with Kandi Burruss. Tawanna Easley, Dominique Boyd and Erica Lamberson, young filmmakers and straight-A students, were also in attendance and awarded scholarships to further their careers in film… and the next day the Summit closed with independent film screenings and a performance from “Empire’s” V. Bozeman. Top honors were given to projects from female directors Laila Petrone, Spelman grad Brittany Fennell, Kiandra Parks, Kimberly Townes and LaShunda Smith. Best of Festival “Your Love” – Directed by Laila Petrone Best Short “Q.U.E.E.N.” – Directed by Brittany Fennell Best Director “Black Girl in Paris”- Directed by Kiandra Parks Audience Buzz Award “Hands to the Sky” – Directed by Kimberly Townes Audience Award “Bristol Place” – Written by LaShunda Smith Black Girls really do rock!
