Weekend Receipts: Act of Valor Blows Away Competition

Hollywood’s biggest winners this weekend weren’t confined just to the Kodak Theater (or whatever they call it now). A new-release frame well-known for its particularly aromatic qualities nevertheless had its success stories, led by an elite squad of Navy SEALs and our old friend Tyler Perry. Naturally. Your Weekend Receipts are here. 1. Act of Valor Gross: $24,700,000 (new) Screens: 3,039 (PSA $8,128) Weeks: 1 As predicted, bad reviews couldn’t keep the flag-waving faithful away. Meanwhile, go ahead and predict the second-week percentage drop in the comments. I’ll say 62 percent. 2. Good Deeds Gross: $16,000,000 (new) Screens: 2,132 (PSA $7,505) Weeks: 1 Clearly needed more headshots — preferably with Madea doing the shooting. 3. Journey 2: The Mysterious Island Gross: $13,475,000 ($76,731,000) Screens: 3,350 (PSA: $4,022) Weeks: 3 (Change: -32.1%) 4. Safe House Gross: $11,400,000 ($98,100,000) Screens: 3,052 (PSA $3,735) Weeks: 3 (Change: -51.8%) Both Journey 2 and Safe House continue to hold remarkably well after three weeks of release. Which is to say: Who is still seeing these? Especially on the weekend everyone’s supposedly catching up on Oscar contenders? 5. The Vow Gross: $26,600,000 ($88,527,000) Screens: 2,958 (PSA $8,993) Weeks: 2 (Change: -35.4%) Seriously, I’m asking. 8. Wanderlust Gross: $6,600,000 (new) Screens: 2,002 (PSA $3,297) Weeks: 1 It could always get worse , Jennifer Aniston! You could have been… 9. Gone Gross: $5,000,000 (new) Screens: 2,186 (PSA $2,287) Weeks: 1 …Amanda Seyfried. Or maybe it couldn’t get worse? That’s fine, though: Box office aside, I know a certain distinction that nobody can take away from either of these bottom dwellers. Congrats! [Figures via Box Office Mojo ] Follow S.T. Traveling Shoes: Welcome To Kenya, Najwa Moses!

Continue reading here:

Well Hello Beautiful! I must say that I’m thrilled to bring the world of Styleaholics–Najwa Moses to this wonderful family of beauties as I travel throughout East Africa and several cities in Europe in search of all things haute — fashion, food, pleasure. For those of you unfamiliar with yours truly, I’ll let my Twitter bio give you the full rundown: The Web’s First Fashion TV Personality/Media Mogul in the Making/Fashion Blogger/Accessory designer/Editor at Bluefly.com/Freelance Creative Social Media Consultant. If you desire to know more check out my bio on my site STYLEAHOLICS.COM I arrived in Nairobi, Kenya after a 16 hour flight from JFK with an 8 hour stopover in London and though I was extremely exhausted, I was also thrilled that I had finally arrived in the Motherland! As a visual/vocal person, my six senses were keen to drink in my entire experience from the very jazzy Virgin Airlines complete with passenger friendly luxe- toiletries (I mean seriously, I can’t remember the last time I was served anything more than a microscopic bag of malnourished peanuts on a flight) and decadent desserts to my very first peek at the continent of Africa to the warm welcome from my host Caroline Malinda of Silverbird Travel who greeted me in total Hollywood fashion with my very own name card and then quickly whisked me away for a much needed brunch. Ow! Please step into my world via photos which start with me at exactly 12 hours before my flight in a sweaty panic trying to fit a Styleaholics wardrobe (I’ve got over 100 pairs of shoes) into one bag for an international journey…oy vey! Let’s Keep This Fashionship Going…up next? I head to Mombasa South — the ‘Hamptons’ of Nairobi– for a Toga themed birthday weekend of sun, rhythm and African luxury. naj:)

Round up the usual suspects: The Social Network , The Fighter , Black Swan , The Kids Are All Right , 127 Hours , True Grit , Inception and The Town all scored nominations (it looks like Ben Affleck’s film is steamrolling toward the Kodak Theater). So, too, did Please Give and I Love You Phillip Morris , two surprise nominees helped out by the fact that many favorites, including The King’s Speech and Toy Story 3 , were deemed ineligible because of rule violations. Womp womp. Click ahead for the full list.
