LOS ANGELES — Dennis Hopper, the Hollywood icon whose career included the 1969 film classic Easy Rider , has died. He was 74. The screen legend, who had been battling prostate cancer, died Saturday morning at his Venice home, surrounded by friends and family, family friend Alex Hitz told the Associated Press. During his distinguished career, Hopper received Oscar nominations for both Easy Rider (which he also directed and co-wrote) and Hoosiers . Other notable movie credits include Rebel Without a Cause , Apocalypse Now and Blue Velvet .
