Sunday, the 92-year-old made his 1,097th and last appearance on 60 Minutes. “I wish I could do this forever,” he said, admitting he’s dreaded his retirement . The long-running CBS news program, which has featured Andy Rooney since its 1978 debut, also conducted a long interview with the writer/commentator. Poignantly, but with his vintage curmudgeonly humor, he closed by thanking his fans.
