Ed Sheeran and Athina Andrelos are over. The couple called things off after a year of dating, the 24-year-old British singer-songwriter has confirmed. Sheeran told an Australian radio station that he is newly single, following speculation he and Athina had split up after the 2015 BRIT Awards last month. “I wasn’t single, I was in a relationship for a long time,” Ed said, but he is on the market now, having parted ways with the 23-year-old Athina recently. What happened? An argument at a BRIT Awards after-party last month was said to be the catalyst, or the final straw. A source told Heat magazine: ” “The final straw was at the after-party. It was a combination of Ed drinking too much and him being unable to deal with a girl that kept bothering them that night.” “The next day, when Athina drove Ed to the airport, they spoke about everything and decided to take a break because it was unfair on both of them. “It wasn’t to do with his fame,” says the alleged insider, “it’s just how he would deal with other people – girls – wanting to talk to him on nights out.” Asked about Athina, who works as a Food Team production assistant at The Jamie Oliver Group, Ed seemed caught off guard, but confirmed the split. Ed had previously dated Ellie Goulding, though their relationship ended badly when she allegedly cheated on him with Niall Horan from One Direction. His hit “Don’t” is believed to be about Ellie, though Sheeran has never gone on record saying that Goulding was the inspiration for the burn of a song.
