Grey’s Anatomy actress Ellen Pompeo wasn’t a fan of this year’s Emmy Awards. A big reason for that? The telecast’s lack of diversity, according to the star. “I didn’t see any diversity in the Emmys at all. The Emmys felt so dated to me,” she said, adding specifically that “The dance number was embarrassing.” Did you see one person of color in that dance number?” Grey’s Anatomy is one of the more diverse shows on TV, which Pompeo, who is also in a biracial marriage (to Chris Ivery ) says is one of her favorite things about it. The series famously casts its characters “blind” with no race in mind. “I’m extremely proud of our very, very diverse cast which represents the world that I walk around in every day,” she said of the long-running medical drama. Greys Anatomy Season 10 Premiere Clip Grey’s , in its heyday, earned a ton of nominations at the annual show, many of which for roles portrayed by its diverse cast. This year? Not so much. Regardless, her typically blunt assessment likely rings true to many. What do you think of her comments? Were the Emmy Awards lacking in the diversity department? And given the nature of the show, does it matter? Grey’s Anatomy returns Thursday night in any case.
