Source: Mike Pont / Getty Although  Gabrielle Union  is now known as one of the most beautiful women in entertainment and film, she wasn’t always treated this way. In a recent interview with AOL’s “Build Series,” the actress explained that she was once passed over for a role because she wasn’t considered pretty enough. Want Exclusives First? Instead, actress Bianca Lawson was casted and went on to star in the UPN series. Union said when her manager asked the casting directors how she could improve her craft for future auditions, she was told it wasn’t talent, it was looks. “I was testing for a pilot of UPN, Google the network, it no longer exists. Coincidence, I think not,” she started with fun shade. “It was between me, and another girl–she’s known, Bianca Lawson, from “Queen Sugar” fame, who’s lovely. And she ended up getting the job. My manager said, ‘Why? is there anything we can give her to work on for the next gig?’ And they were like, ‘No, Bianca’s just prettier.’” Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). Dancing With the Stars Recap: Does Sean Spicer Not Suck?!?

Disneyland is known as The Happiest Place on Earth. And yet, following a Dancing With the Stars episode that took place at this resort and during which the contestant performed Disney-themed routines,  not everyone walked away with a smile on his or her face. Starting with Carrie Ann Inaba. The veteran judge went viral on Monday night shortly after she gave her critique of Kate Flannery’s jazz routine to “A Spoonful of Sugar” from Mary Poppins with her partner, Pasha Pashkov. When Tom Bergeron pointed out that one of the dancing duo’s broom props was near the judge’s table, Inaba bent over to get a closer look at the item. And then? TIMBER! As Inaba went to sit, her chair moved backward and she fell down, prompting Flannery and Pashkov to rush to her side. Thankfully, Inaba was just fine and the show continued. Who exceled and who nearly embarrassed themselves as much as Inaba? Scroll down to find out… Sailor Brinkley-Cook & Val Chmerkovskiy : The Viennese Waltz was Sailor’s best dance yet, as she did Cinderella proud with a total score of 24. Karamo Brown & Jenna Johson : Brown still has some technique issues to work through, but the African elements added to his Samba helped it stand out and gained a 21. Kate Flannery & Pasha Pashkov : This jazz routine went up a notch when the actress shifted into the quickstep portion. She remains a front-runner after notching a 24. Sean Spicer & Lindsay Arnold : This Quickstep wasn’t all that quick, but Spicer loosened up just a tiny bit, thanks to his partner yelling at him throughout. They earned a 19. Ally Brooke & Sasha Farber : Bravo all around! The partners were totally in sync for their Contemporary routine, prompting the judges to hand out their first 9’s of the season — each! 27 points! Lauren Alaina & Gleb Savchenko : The country singer never seemed totally comfortable with her Samba, most notably lacking enthusiasm when it came to her hip action. Lack of sensuality led to a score of 23. Kel Mitchell & Witney Carson : What an entertaining Jazz routine! Kel came out with tons of swagger and his smile was contagious. Dude also breakdanced at one point. 26 points! Hannah Brown & Alan Bersten : This was an elegant Foxtroy. The Bachelorette was practically floating through the air as she gracefully  earned 25 points. James Van Der Beek & Emma Slater : They closed the night with a strong Paso Doble, as the actor embodied his character with confidence and showmanship, garnering 26 points. Talk about a competitive season, huh? No duds, not definitive favorites — and no one eliminated on Monday. Who will be the next to go when the time comes? You tell us!

Oprah Winfrey Does Not Regret Her Decision To Not Get Married Or Have Kids

Source: Kevin Mazur / Getty In a recent interview with People Magazine , Oprah Winfrey opened up about not being a mother and her longtime partnership with Stedman Graham . The billionaire met Mr. Graham in 1986, and Oprah considered being a mother during a short window of time when they were engaged. “At one point in Chicago I had bought an additional apartment because I was thinking, ‘Well, if we get married, I’m going to need room for children,’” said. Winfrey. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). But the appeal of having kids started to fade into the background, as the 65-year-old reflected on the “the depth of responsibility and sacrifice that is actually required to be a mother.” Having guests on her iconic “Oprah Winfrey Show,” who didn’t do the best job at parenting, made Oprah take a mirror to herself and her own boundaries. It is why, throughout my years, I have had the highest regard for women who choose to be at home [with] their kids, because I don’t know how you do that all day long. Nobody gives women the credit they deserve.” Oprah didn’t want to make sacrifices as a mama, or a wife either. “I used to think about this all the time, that I was working these 17-hour days, and so were my producers, and then I go home and I have my two dogs and I have Stedman, who’s letting me be who I need to be in the world. He’s never demanding anything from me like, ‘Where’s my breakfast? Where’s my dinner?’ Never any of that, which I believed would have changed had we married.” SEE ALSO:  Oprah Winfrey Reveals She Was Pre-Diabetic Before Joining Weight Watchers Looking back, both partners agree that marriage would’ve been the deathknelll of their union. “Both he and I now say, ‘If we had married, we would not be together,’” she adds. “No question about it — we would not stay married, because of what that would have meant to him, and I would have had my own ideas about it.” Winfrey may not have any biological children, but she is “mama” to the many girls in her Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy. Because of her connection with girls worldwide, Oprah has no qualms about her decision. “I have not had one regret about that. I also believe that part of the reason why I don’t have regrets is because I got to fulfill it in the way that was best for me: the Oprah Winfrey Leadership Academy for Girls in South Africa,” she said. “Those girls fill that maternal fold that I perhaps would have had. In fact, they overfill — I’m overflowed with maternal.” [ione_media_gallery src=”https://rickeysmileymorningshow.com” id=”1856086″ overlay=”true”] This story was originally published on MadameNoire.com .  ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : Legendary Actress From ‘A Different World’ Passes Away Tatyana Ali & Her Husband Welcome Baby Number Two [PHOTOS] Tisha Campbell Details Childhood Rape By Babysitter [VIDEO] Follow @TheRSMS

Here’s What La La Had To Say About Joining The Chi Following Sexual Misconduct Allegations Against Jason Mitchell

Read more from the original source:

Source: WENN.com / WENN La La Anthony is a woman who wears many hats. She is an actress, a TV personality, an author, a producer, a designer, a businesswoman, and a mother. With so much on her plate, the 38-year-old can’t afford to be sidelined by the migraines she’s been suffering with for some time. Excedrin’s Migraine product has been the one thing she says has helped her continue to work and enjoy moments that she used to have to put on hold because of the pain. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news.  ( Terms and conditions ). “It was definitely over 10 years for sure and at different times in my life it has been a really big burden,” she told me over the phone, noting that her headaches are brought on most often by cigarette smoke, lack of sleep, delays in eating and not drinking enough water. “Excedrin Migraine is something that I’ve always used and turned to for relief, and really, the only thing I’ve ever been able to use to find some type of relief.” La La teamed up with the pain medication makers to launch their Excedrin Take Two initiative, which invites migraine sufferers to share moments they missed out on or that were affected because a migraine came on and relive them migraine-free. The star can relate to having special moments dampened by intense headaches. “There was a family reunion a couple years back and I think we all know what it’s like to be present but not present,” she said. “I remember just being so out of it because my head was pounding and I just wanted to lay down. I didn’t get to fully enjoy our family reunion. I have a really big family so the reunions are what we look forward to every couple of years. For everyone to say, ‘Hey, you didn’t seem like yourself, are you okay?’ that was frustrating. That would be something that I would love to have a do-over on.” SEE ALSO:  Sonja Sohn Of ‘The Chi,’ ‘The Wire’ Arrested For Cocaine Possession She learned her lesson from that situation and decided to be aware of her triggers. La La keeps Excedrin Migraine in her bag so that she never has to miss a beat while working on her many different projects, presently including BH90210   and Power. “I’ve never had to slow down because of it,” she said. “I’ve never had to stop because of it. My days are able to continue, I’m able to get relief, I’m able to push forward and that’s what you want. You don’t want to be in a situation where you can’t even work because of a migraine. You just don’t want that.” And La La has a lot of work to do these days, especially as an actress. She’s come a long way from her days of being a radio personality and VJ to now being the star in a number of primetime shows and movies. “I always thought it was cool and could be cool to try, but not at that time,” she said of taking up acting. “But once I started taking acting classes and really getting into it and taking it seriously, then I was like, wow, this is something I really want to do and really want to try my hardest to become better at and learn. I’m still learning. It’s something that you learn every single day. I have Power , 90210 and I’m also in Chicago right now filming Lena Waithe’s show The Chi.  That’s been a great experience for me.” She is joining the Showtime series at a time when those behind The Chi  are trying to move forward from the allegations of sexual harassment that were brought against axed star Jason Mitchell by his former co-star Tiffany Boone. La La says despite the cloud that was cast over Lena;s project, she’s happy to be a part of Season 3 . SEE ALSO:  Behind The Scenes: Kandi Burruss Lands Reoccurring Role On ‘The Chi’ “I think Lena Waithe is one of the most amazing people and talents of our time,” she said. “I’ve always wanted to work with her and so when this came up, I was like, there’s no way I’m going to pass this opportunity up. The Chi is such an amazing show. I was a fan before I was on the show, and yeah, different things have happened, but at the core, it’s an amazing show. The writers are amazing, Lena is amazing and they’re going to continue to do amazing things over there and I’m just excited to be a part of it.” In the meantime, though, she’s completing the final season of Power. La La is happy to have a more prominent role than ever on the series now that her character LaKeisha Grant has grown to be the HBIC on the Starz series. “It’s so amazing to me because as an actor and one who plays characters, all you want is for the characters to grow,” she said. “So when you see the arc of LaKeisha from the beginning to now and how much the character has grown, whether you love her or hate her or agree with what she’s doing or not, she’s there, her presence matters on the show and that’s all you want.” Sign Up For Our Newsletter! Still, she welcomes the passion of fans, which she says means she’s doing a great job in her role. “I’m so grateful to Power and our writer and creator Courtney Kemp for just giving me great material to work with to where people really feel it. They’re mad at Lakeisha. They’re mad at me!” she said. “They’re upset with the decisions she’s making and things she’s doing, and it’s a testament to the writing and for me, it’s a testament to how I’m playing the character that people really think it’s real life. They have a hard time separating!” ALSO TRENDING ON RICKEYSMILEYMORNINGSHOW.COM : Legendary Actress From ‘A Different World’ Passes Away Tatyana Ali & Her Husband Welcome Baby Number Two [PHOTOS] Tisha Campbell Details Childhood Rape By Babysitter [VIDEO] Follow @TheRSMS
