Keisha Lance Bottoms , the mayor of Atlanta, just announced that the city reached its goal of raising a whopping $50 million to provide housing for the homeless. Text “RICKEY” to 71007 to join the Rickey Smiley Morning Show mobile club for exclusive news. ( Terms and conditions ). According to reports from Blavity , Atlanta partnered with the United Way of Greater Atlanta to raise the funds. About half of the money came from donations from private organizations, which includes Ameris Bank, who donated the last $114,000 that allowed the city to reach its goal. The other half is from the Homeless Opportunity Bond sale that began under former Mayor Kasim Reed. At the moment, there are over 3,000 homeless people in the city of Atlanta and the money raised will provide 550 homes for the city’s homeless population. “It is a misperception that many people have — that homelessness is represented entirely by the people they see on the streets,” said Jack Hardin, co-chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission on Homelessness. “A far larger proportion of people experiencing homelessness have incomes and function at very high levels, but live on the margins of the economics of our society and any hardship can derail.” This very funding to help curb homelessness in Atlanta was a major priority for former Mayor Kasim Reed’s last year in office. The initiative was initially announced about two years ago, when the city’s largest homeless shelter, Peachtree-Pine, revealed that it was closing its doors. It was unanimously approved by the city council Bottoms was apart of before becoming mayor. “We now have the opportunity to end chronic homelessness in our city, and ensure that all women, men and children – regardless of circumstance – have the chance to live stable, meaningful lives and participate fully in their communities,” Reed said in a written statement at the time the plan was approved. Congrats to Mayor Keisha and everyone else involved on such a major accomplishment for the city of Atlanta. T he city of Atlanta has made a major stride in combating homelessness. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution , Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms announced that $50 million has been raised to build houses for over 500 families who are without shelter. Mayor @KeishaBottoms announced that Atlanta had reached its goal of raising $50 million to provide 550 homes for the city’s homeless population. https://t.co/qeBTn1YlE5 — AJC (@ajc) August 26, 2019 The HomeFirst Atlanta initiative—which was launched in 2017 when former Mayor Kasim Reed was in office—was created after Atlanta’s largest shelter shuttered. The shelter served over 500 individuals each night. In an effort to develop a sustainable solution for the homeless population, community leaders and political officials teamed up with the United Way Regional Commission on Homelessness and Invest Atlanta to develop a fund that would provide housing so that individuals could focus on rebuilding their lives. Half of the $50 million came from the Homeless Opportunity Bond sale led by Reed and the rest of the funds were from private donors. Bottoms believes that this collaborative effort will make lasting changes in the lives of individuals who need assistance. “HomeFirst will create 550 units of permanent supportive housing that will be part of larger developments that will contribute, in aggregate, more than 2,500 units of affordable housing,” she said in a statement, according to The Atlanta Voice . “We are building a compassionate community of trusted partners who approach homelessness in a strategic, transparent and accountable way. The results show that it is working.” Organizers of the initiative are aiming to make resources more accessible for those struggling with homelessness. “It is a miss-perception that many people have: that homelessness is represented entirely by the people they see on the streets,” Jack Hardin , Co-Chair of the Atlanta Regional Commission on Homelessness told the news outlet. “A far larger proportion of people experiencing homelessness have incomes and function at very high levels, but live on the margins of the economics of our society and any hardship can derail.” There have been several projects launched in Atlanta to combat the city’s homelessness issue. Earlier this year, Gwinnett officials awarded nearly $1 million to an organization that had plans to build two shelters in the county. Elisabeth Moss is some troll bitch who we call “the nerd” because she just looks like a weird awkward bug eyed kid who is allergic to everything except Scientology…..she is a Scientologist.. I have SEEN handmaid’s tale…and I question how she got it, because I know anyone with money and in a position to find a fertile sex slave to make babies with – due to their society falling apart due to infertility thanks to pollution…they’d choose anything but this monster. This one belongs on the colonies fertilizing the radioactive LAND…yes…I have seen the show… Anyway, thanks to that show, every time I see this monster fuck, it ends terribly for all involved…it’s like stay in the fucking house….or put a mask on…how can in an era of everyone getting plastic surgery did this fall through the cracks…probably thanks to her greasy troll skin…or maybe thanks to Scientology…despite looking like like a Science Experience… The best description I’ve heard said about Elisabeth Moss is that she looks like a dermoid cyst…the cyst with hair and teeth…that survived, grew and learned how to speak…only to get cast in Mad Men….or whatever it is that launched her ugly monster career… I’ve also heard her described as the cum and pubic hair stuck in the shower drain pulled out on cleaning day….but that morphed into a human due to some weird fertilization that happened and that crawled out of the dumpster and became an actor. I have never heard her described as hot, something you’d fuck, but I know all you’d fuck her…you sick fucks… JOIN THE NEWSLETTER YOU ASSHOLES! Of all the professional sports, the NBA has the most collegial atmosphere, and Canadians consider skipping the line at Tim Hortons without uttering a sheepish “suri” to be about the rudest behavior imaginable. So surely, an NBA Finals series between the Toronto Raptors and the famously woke Golden State Warriors would be just about the most sportsmanlike contest in league history, right? Ha! Yeah, that hasn’t exactly been the case … Whether it’s Drake calling Draymond Green “trash” or the Warriors counter-trolling the 6’s most famous resident by playing Pusha T diss tracks during team warmups, the rivalry between these teams has been as unexpectedly intense as the series’ first three games. Last night, the Warriors top brass got involved when one of the team’s minority owners violently shoved Kyle Lowry after the Raptors forward chased a ball into the stands. But that drama couldn’t compare to the intense standoff between Beyonce and Nicole Curran, wife of the team’s minority owner, Joe Lacob: Members of Bey’s famously loyal fan base absolutely lost their minds at the sight of the singer glaring off into the distance as Curran attempted to monopolize Jay Z’s attention. Toward the end of the conversation, the situation escalated even further when Beyonce (allegedly) gave Curran the slightest of shoves in response to an invasion of personal space. Like the Lowry push (so much shoving last night!) it all happened in the blink of an eye, and you may have missed it while watching the game live. Check out the instant replay and decide for yourself if there’s real beef here: Beyonce vs. Nicole Curran Maybe we’re reading too much into this, but we think it’s pretty clear Mrs. Carter was annoyed — and that seemed to be the consensus on Twitter, as well: “Beyonce is annoyed by this woman hov gon’ hear about it on the jet,” Radio One editor Brandon Caldwell tweeted. “Beyonce definitely didn’t think that tonight of all nights that she’d have to hit a woman with a shoulder nudge in rare burberry but here we are.” “I would leave the earth if Beyonce looked this ready to smack me,” podcaster Kara Brown wrote. “IMAGINE, speaking and leaning over Beyoncé,” Twitter user @alamanecer remarked. On Instagram, Curran was quick to respond, posting a photo of herself sitting with Jay and Bey and captioning the post: “We should all help and support each other.” Clearly, the plea for sympathy was ineffective, as Nicole disabled comments and then deleted the post entirely. Her other posts are now being flooded by the Hive’s signature bee emojis, and the message is abundantly clear — don’t mess with the queen or you might get stung.
