Seriously?! White Starbucks Manager Is Suing For Discrimination For Getting Fired After The Wrongful Arrest Of Two Black Men In Philly

Source: Alex Wong / Alex Wong Former Starbucks Manager Files Discrimination Suit After Firing Shannon Phillips managed various Starbucks locations in four different states over the course of 13 years, but after being fired, she’s filed a lawsuit against the coffee chain. According to reports from The Daily Beast , the white former employee is claiming that she was the victim of racial discrimination when she was terminated in wake of the wrongful arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store last year. “Weeks after the arrests and surrounding media coverage, [Starbucks] took steps to punish white employees who had not been involved in the arrests, but who work in and around the city of Philadelphia, in an effort to convince the community that it had properly responded to the incident,” the lawsuit states. The suit is referencing the highly publicized incident from April 2018, where Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson ended up being cuffed and escorted out by police officers for sitting inside the Starbucks as they waited on a work associate to arrive. At the time, the company responded by re-evaluating how their employees deal with customers supported by company-wide racial bias training. Now, Phillips alleges that Starbucks was internally targeting its white employees–including her–after the mishap. According to the suit, said “discrimination” allegedly started about a month after the arrests, when Phillips was forced to suspend a “white employee (who had not had any involvement in the arrests)” for “an allegation of discriminatory conduct” which she says wasn’t true. Phillips was allegedly told in a meeting with her supervisors that the manager she was tasked with suspending had been paying non-white employees less than those who are white–but she disputed the claim, stating that store managers cannot determine salaries. Phillips ended up being fired the next day because “the situation [was] not recoverable,” claiming that the excuse was a “pre-text for race discrimination.” Shannon Phillips is seeking compensatory and punitive damages over the “embarrassment, humiliation, loss of self-esteem, mental anguish, and loss of life’s pleasures.” As for Starbucks, the company has denied these claims.

Asian-Owned D.C. Bar Accused Of Calling Woman ‘Black’ And ‘Ugly’

See the original post:

Source: Tetra Images / Getty A D.C. bar is under fire after a woman says she experienced “racist, sexist, colorist epithets” while visiting as a customer. Pierrea Naketa detailed the incident in a Medium article and explained that she visited Copycat Co. in the H Street neighborhood after leaving a silent dance party in the same area. At first, Naketa says she and her friend were having a good time but right when they were about to leave, the two witnessed a major disturbance at the bar area. Naketa says a male bartender “with deep brown skin” had “aggressively approached two black women sitting at the bar and snatched their plate of food.” Then, Naketa says he yelled to one of the women who was dark-skinned, saying “This bit** gotta go!” “Bit**? Why am I bit**,” Naketa says the woman responded. This is when Naketa says the bartender escalated things and went into a tirade screaming multiple times “YOU BLACK AND YOU UGLY BIT**! YOU BLACK AS F*** AND YOU UGLY!” Naketa noted that the dark-skinned lady’s friend had a lighter complexion. According to Naketa, the bartender was mad about another incident that happened the last time the dark-skinned woman was there. He argued that she was banned from CopyCat. Naketa explains, “the woman stated someone she was with got into an altercation with the bartender and they left, but she seemed to genuinely not know she was not welcomed to return.” As a matter of fact, Naketa said the woman and her friend were buying drinks and food with no interruption up until the bartender’s confrontation. Not too long after the bartender began his alleged tirade, Naketa says a short Asian man, who she assumed was the manager, came out and calmly told the dark-skinned woman she had to leave. Naketa then says, “After being humiliated in front of a packed room, she left with more grace than many I know would have. She obliged the request while noting to the manager, ‘Do you hear him calling me black and ugly? Is that okay?’” Once the woman left, Naketa says she felt obligated to talk to the manager: “I explained to him that while I do not know what happened before, and Copycat may have had good cause to want the woman to leave, the way she was asked to leave was disturbing. I asked him if he would be addressing the colorist rant with the bartender.” That’s when Naketa says the man said, “What? Do you want me to fire him?” He then tried to explain that the bartender was Black too. Naketa responded to the presumed manager in her article, saying, “that the bartender’s race is irrelevant and that his employee had screamed colorist remarks in front of a room full of people. I told him that my friends and I were uncomfortable and offended.” Naketa argues that the presumed manger didn’t take her concerns seriously and as she began to respond, “a young Black man who worked in the kitchen appeared from around the corner with a ladle in hand.” Naketa says he wrongfully assumed that Naketa was the woman who had been kicked out. Naketa says that he yelled, “Man quit talking to these bit**es! You been talking to these bit**es for 10 minutes! Kick the bit** out!’” After Naketa’s masculine partner came over and corrected the cook, Naketa says he apologized. However, when she asked for the presumed manager’s name, he replied, “I’m not giving you my name.” Naketa argues that if she hadn’t been a dark-skinned Black woman, “my complaint would have been taken seriously.” The next day, when Naketa Googled the restaurant, she realized that the man she was addressing who she thought was the manager was actually one of the owners of the restaurant Devin Gong. According to Thrillist , Gong is the owner of CopyCat Co., which “combines craft cocktails with Northern Chinese bites like pot stickers, skewers, and bao buns.” He just opened another restaurant called Astoria in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C., according to Eater . Since Naketa has shared her story on Medium , some folks across social media have supported her situation, saying they will never go to CopyCat Co. again.   Naketa describes herself as a “Black lesbian, law school grad, organizer, writer” and “Founder and President of Play In the Sun , an anti-colorism organization.” The woman who she says was kicked out has yet to make a public statement about the alleged incident. NewsOne reached out to Devin Gong with no response. Naketa urged people to share her story, writing, “I hope that I will find this woman.”

‘LHHHS6’ Recap: Lyrica Is Heartbroken But Her Girls Got Her Back

Excerpt from:

Source: Lucianna Faraone Coccia / Getty Tonight’s episode of Love and Hip-Hop Hollywood picks up from Apryl and Moniece’s face-off [*cough* over Fizz]. Moniece says she doesn’t want Fizz, but it seems like she’s jealous of Fizz and Apryl’s relationship, or whatever it is they’re doing. In fairness, Moniece is also upset because Apryl and Fizz have been making moves with her son Cam, like going on a family trip to Chicago, without telling her. That’s actually valid. Apryl still denies that she and Fizz are a thing. Basically, we’re still in the lying phase. But anyway, they manage to get past the hostility and apologize to each other for their respective transgressions. This is clearly not over. But for now, they make amends and even decide to support each other when it comes to their music.  Apple Watts is back. She’s the resident stripper-tryna-be-a-rapper. Every Love and Hip-Hop city has to have at least one. Anyway, she’s still working on her music but she isn’t affiliated with the manager she had last year, and definitely not that man who pretended to be her father. Now she’s seeking guidance from Yoyo, who has taken on the role of rap mentor April’s mentor through the literal Yoyo School of Hip-Hop.  Next, we find a heartbroken Lyrica is kicking it with Princess and her best friend, Sia. This is the aftermath of Jason Lee leaking that info about A1 cheating with Summer Bunni while Lyrica was pregnant. Lyrica is in tears as she laments how hurt she was. Princess chimes in and says she caught Ray J “headed in that direction” when she was pregnant so she empathizes. Lyrica has A1’s phone number blocked at the moment but he has a show coming up and Sia suggests they run up on him. That’s not this episode, but it’s coming.  Now we’re back at the Yoyo School of Hip-Hop. Yoyo thought she was going to connect Apple Watts and Summer Bunni, not knowing what was about to happen. Basically, Apple Watts was down with meeting Summer at first, but then she recognized who Summer was. Apple and Lyrica are cool, so Apple immediately calls her out and goes into fight mode. They go back and forth for a second, but you know security got this. Apple gets removed but she’s outside yelling about how she wants to deliver Compton Fists of Fury to Summer Bunni.  Meanwhile, Summer is standing with Yoyo, going back and forth between crying and yelling back at Apple. Yoyo is telling Summer to pull it together because she’s going to have to deal with a lot worse as her career progresses. Blacc Chyna is in the studio with Brittany and they’re planning her music. The real point of this scene is for Blacc Chyna to encourage Brittany B to work on her relationship with her mother since they both have toxic moms in common. Brittany isn’t too sure about that though because she’s still dealing with the trauma from her mother’s crackhead-ish behavior over the years. But we’ll get back to this next episode.  Let’s fast forward a bit. Now we’re at a party or showcase, or something. We find Misster Ray with Summer Bunni and Yoyo. We’re not sure if Apple is coming, but she probably is, because, Love and Hip-Hop Hollywood , but Yoyo mentions that Summer Bunni needs to be ready in case Apple shows up. Summer starts getting all teary-eyed again talking about how what happened the other day with Apple wasn’t called for and she’s tired of people putting stuff in #TheBlogs about her and calling her a homewrecker when they don’t really know her, yatta yatta. Yoyo tells her to snap out of it, once again, then Ray J and Princess walk in. You already know that Princess ain’t feeling Summer on behalf of Lyrica. And then…Lyrica waltzing in with Apple. That’s how the episode ends tonight. But it’s going down next week because Lyrica and Summer Bunni are going to have a war of words.  RELATED POSTS ‘LHHHS6’ Recap: Apryl Has A Love Jones For Fizzle Pop ‘LHHHS5’ Reunion Recap: Moniece And Princess Love Do The Unthinkable

Practicing for a career in the spotlight through the competition. “I want to work on commercials,” she revealed. Not having formal training didn’t intimidate her. “Skill you can always gain a skill,” she said. “But your unique personality, your unique look, your unique style is what speaks.” She saw doing things like finding her lighting and practicing poses as chance to “stretch me artistically.” She campaigned hard swapping out a portion of her usual inspirational “morning gram” videos for stylized tutorials and photos that showed her ability to represent the brand in static or video format. Now that she has proven her versatility she hopes to use her platform with Sephora to reach a bigger audience so she can inspire more people. “I hope I can make a difference for anyone male, female, Black , white, Asian by letting them know that there’s someone like them out there letting them know that there is someone that’s a representation of them.” Placement in the Sephora Squad will give Watson the opportunity to not only appear in digital advertisements representing the interests of the brand to the everyday person to others it will allow her to advocate for diversity to brand decision makers . She doesn’t yet know how she will speak up for others in the space, but she is making it a priority to continue being her “bold, honest and outgoing,” self. “Sephora is a universal place it’s a universal playground. It opens a lot of fields for me. I want to be a representation for women of color there. Georgia Dairy Queen Employee Gets Fired for Making Marijuana-Themed Birthday Cake Instead Of A ‘Moana’-Themed One

Source: Roberto Machado Noa / Getty Dairy Queen Employee Fired For Making An Inappropriate Cake A Dairy Queen employee in Georgia ended up being fired after she made a marijuana-themed cake for a woman’s 25th birthday. The whole ordeal began when Kensli Taylor Davis’ mother called a Dairy Queen and asked for a Moana -themed cake. A manager at the store who took the order misheard the request and thought she said “marijuana.” When Davis’ mother went to go pick up the cake, she received one that featured a picture of a marijuana plant as well as an extremely high My Little Pony. It was supposed to be a Moana cake, but a young woman instead received a birthday cake featuring marijuana and a “My Little Pony”-themed character smoking marijuana. https://t.co/tvUyWlyiak pic.twitter.com/ob0kZKP9ku — ABC 7 News – WJLA (@ABC7News) July 10, 2019 “I think they thought that she said ‘marijuana’ because we are from south Georgia and kind of have an accent. So,  Moana , marijuana,” Davis explained to Georgia’s  WMAZ-TV. I meeeean, the two words do sound alike. So they’ve got a point there–but you’d think the employee would clarify once or twice what the customer wants the theme of their cake to be. Anyway…. Kensli posted about the encounter on her Facebook page in good spirits, writing in her caption: “I haven’t had a chance to tell y’all about our experience this weekend with my birthday cake. So my mama called and ordered me a cake telling them how much I loved Moana. (Because really I do) Well needless to say these people thought she said marijuana   That ice cream cake was still good though  ” Cassandra Walker, the Dairy Queen employee who made the cake, opened up about the incident to USA Today after being fired. “This is back-to-school time. I have two little girls here,” explained Walker, who worked at Dairy Queen for around a year. “I have a car that needs fixing. It’s not funny to me.” She also says she made the cake with the approval of her manager. “The manager stood behind me while I pulled the images off the internet. She walked by as I decorated the cake. As I boxed the cake up, she was the one who walked it up to the front.” “This was a simple misunderstanding from the beginning,” Al Autry, one of the owners of the Dairy Queen, said in a statement given to USA Today . “Our cake decorator designed a cake based on what she thought she heard the customer order. When the customer picked it up and said it was not what she ordered, we immediately apologized for the error and offered to redesign it the way she originally intended. The customer said it was fine, paid for the cake and left.” Walker was eventually offered her job back, but says it was Autry who fired her in the first place. She declined the offer.

Lil Kim Calls Out Andy Cohen & Other Media Outlets on IG Live

View original post here:

Source: HOLLYWOOD, CA – SEPTEMBER 17: Lil Kim arrives for VH1’s Hip Hop Honors: The 90’s Game Changers at Paramount Studios on September 17, 2017 in Hollywood, California. (Photo by Greg Doherty/Getty Images) Uploaded By Godspeed Lil Kim ‘s imprint on Hip-Hop history is well branded and well deserved and though she’s never been one to keep her mouth shut she refuses to speak to anyone who doesn’t put any respect on her name. Recently the OG Queen Bee took to Instagram Live to explain why she refused to do interviews for both Andy Cohen and the media in general. Revealing that she had some press set up for Thursday, Kim explained that she pulled out of all her obligations because “two of the major outlets wanted to be messy and my publicist and my manager made the executive decision to shut it down.” The “Lighters Up” rapper went on to state that “I refuse to f*ckin’ keep doing all of these interviews, publications and all of that sh*t if muthaf*ckas is not gonna respect who I am, what i’ve done, where i’m at now – put some f*ckin’ respect on my name, period.” According to Kim she was set up to appear on Access Hollywood , The Today Show and Watch What Happens Live with Andy Cohen , but apparently her team wasn’t feeling the direction one or all of these shows wanted to go with their interviews. Without going into specifics about what kind of “messy” Cohen (who she thought she had a cool relationship with) and others wanted to get into, the pint sized Brooklyn rapper stated that “If y’all don’t see me doing press, if y’all don’t see me doing certain things, it’s ’cause I’m fighting. I’m f**king fighting. I’m not f**king just about to have muthaf**kers not put respect on my name. So don’t act stupid. Don’t start asking all these dumb questions, ‘why she not doing this? why she not doing that?’ cause now y’all f*ckin’ know!” Well, we can’t blame her for pulling out of shows that she felt might’ve been looking to ask her questions she wasn’t comfortable answering. As for that long awaited follow up album to 2005’s The Naked Truth , Kim promises it’ll drop “real, real soon.” Check out Lil Kim’s IG statement below and let us know if you think she’s in the right to put the media on blast.
