Source: Alex Wong / Alex Wong Former Starbucks Manager Files Discrimination Suit After Firing Shannon Phillips managed various Starbucks locations in four different states over the course of 13 years, but after being fired, she’s filed a lawsuit against the coffee chain. According to reports from The Daily Beast , the white former employee is claiming that she was the victim of racial discrimination when she was terminated in wake of the wrongful arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store last year. “Weeks after the arrests and surrounding media coverage, [Starbucks] took steps to punish white employees who had not been involved in the arrests, but who work in and around the city of Philadelphia, in an effort to convince the community that it had properly responded to the incident,” the lawsuit states. The suit is referencing the highly publicized incident from April 2018, where Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson ended up being cuffed and escorted out by police officers for sitting inside the Starbucks as they waited on a work associate to arrive. At the time, the company responded by re-evaluating how their employees deal with customers supported by company-wide racial bias training. Now, Phillips alleges that Starbucks was internally targeting its white employees–including her–after the mishap. According to the suit, said “discrimination” allegedly started about a month after the arrests, when Phillips was forced to suspend a “white employee (who had not had any involvement in the arrests)” for “an allegation of discriminatory conduct” which she says wasn’t true. Phillips was allegedly told in a meeting with her supervisors that the manager she was tasked with suspending had been paying non-white employees less than those who are white–but she disputed the claim, stating that store managers cannot determine salaries. Phillips ended up being fired the next day because “the situation [was] not recoverable,” claiming that the excuse was a “pre-text for race discrimination.” Shannon Phillips is seeking compensatory and punitive damages over the “embarrassment, humiliation, loss of self-esteem, mental anguish, and loss of life’s pleasures.” As for Starbucks, the company has denied these claims.

The country singer, perhaps best known for her role on One Tree Hill back in the day, has been open for years about her problems with husband Mike Caussin. On October 3, Jersey Shore star Ronnie Magro was tased and arrested following a violent altercation with girlfriend Jen Harley. Sadly, to those familiar with this twosome, this was one of those stories that registers as both shocking and not shocking at all. While it’s obviously never okay to blame the victim, Jen has committed several acts of violence against Ronnie in the past. Perhaps most notably, there was the infamous incident in which Harley actually dragged him with her car in mid-argument. So some Shore fans might have been hesitant to condemn Ronnie’s actions this time around. However, they may feel differently after seeing photos of the brutal injuries Jen allegedly sustained in her fight with Ron. The photos — obtained by TMZ and published by the site late Monday night — show large scrapes and bruises on Harley’s shoulder and thigh. Sources close to Jen say she suffered the injuries when Ron dragged her across the concrete driveway of the Los Angeles Airbnb where the fight took place. Not surprisingly, Magro’s team offers a very different version of events. They say Jen was behaving erratically, and when Ron attempted to remove the couple’s 1-year-old daughter Ariana to a safer location, she resisted him. Magro allegedly claims that Jen suffered the shoulder injury when she fell backward off a fence after he took Ariana away from her. He claims the thigh injury occurred when she clung to him as he attempted to re-enter the house with his daughter. Though he has yet to speak publicly on the matter, Ronnie claimed in a statement to police that Jen was heavily intoxicated on the night of the incident, which caused him to become concerned for Ariana’s safety. On Monday, Harley was issued an emergency order of protection against Magro, which prevents him from making contact with her until October 11. According to TMZ, she’ll be in court this week to try and have the terms of the restraining order extended beyond that date. Ronnie was reportedly permitted to reclaim items he left in Jen’s home, but only with the presence of a police escort. The order of protection dictates similar requirements should Ronnie need to pick up or drop off Ariana, whom he is not prohibited from seeing. Sources close to the situation say Magro continues to maintain his innocence and believes the truth will come out in court. A trial date for the assault charges against him has not yet been revealed. The 38-year-old comedian and actress placed blame, publicly, on Vanessa Anderson , a fellow Black woman, who does PR for Issa Rae and puts together the party every year. Amanda mentioned that the two have never really hit it off, but implied that the fact that Vanessa would go so far as to have her removed from the space felt incredibly unfair and uncalled for. The bad news just keeps on coming for Jenelle Evans and David Eason. And as usual, the controversial couple has no one but themselves to blame. In the weeks since David shot and killed Jenelle's dog, all hell has broken loose on the struggling homestead the Easons have dubbed “The Land.” First, Jenelle's son Kaiser was removed from her care . Shortly thereafter, Ensley and Maryssa Eason were removed from The Land by Child Protective Services. Now, it looks as though the authorities may be going to even greater lengths to ensure that David is unable to put his children in harm's way. Take a look: 1. A 15-second video shows a Sheriff’s deputy body slamming a sixth-grade student outside of Lincoln Park Acamedy in Fort Piece, Florida. According to an incident report obtained by WPTV the confrontation between the student and deputy occurred on April 9. Before the body slam, the student, who was not identified, had already been suspended from school for being disruptive in a classroom. Later he was standing outside “being disruptive” while waiting for his parents to come pick him up. Lincoln Park Academy’s Assistant Principal said however that the student was not supposed to leave his office and asked the deputy to help bring the student back inside. The Deputy reported that the student ignored his commands and “continued walking with his fist clenched and had an agitated expression on his face. His brows were turned down and he was punching his fist into the palm of his hand” before the slam. St. Lucie County Sheriff Ken Mascara is denying that the deputy used excessive force. “Our school resource deputy is very familiar with this student and knows he has a violent history, including possessing weapons,” Mascara said during a press conference reports WPTV . He added that a knife had recently been confiscated from the student and the student has to be escorted around campus because he’s been “physically aggressive to staff and students.” Do YOU think that justifies that body slam???
