Seriously?! White Starbucks Manager Is Suing For Discrimination For Getting Fired After The Wrongful Arrest Of Two Black Men In Philly

Source: Alex Wong / Alex Wong Former Starbucks Manager Files Discrimination Suit After Firing Shannon Phillips managed various Starbucks locations in four different states over the course of 13 years, but after being fired, she’s filed a lawsuit against the coffee chain. According to reports from The Daily Beast , the white former employee is claiming that she was the victim of racial discrimination when she was terminated in wake of the wrongful arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store last year. “Weeks after the arrests and surrounding media coverage, [Starbucks] took steps to punish white employees who had not been involved in the arrests, but who work in and around the city of Philadelphia, in an effort to convince the community that it had properly responded to the incident,” the lawsuit states. The suit is referencing the highly publicized incident from April 2018, where Rashon Nelson and Donte Robinson ended up being cuffed and escorted out by police officers for sitting inside the Starbucks as they waited on a work associate to arrive. At the time, the company responded by re-evaluating how their employees deal with customers supported by company-wide racial bias training. Now, Phillips alleges that Starbucks was internally targeting its white employees–including her–after the mishap. According to the suit, said “discrimination” allegedly started about a month after the arrests, when Phillips was forced to suspend a “white employee (who had not had any involvement in the arrests)” for “an allegation of discriminatory conduct” which she says wasn’t true. Phillips was allegedly told in a meeting with her supervisors that the manager she was tasked with suspending had been paying non-white employees less than those who are white–but she disputed the claim, stating that store managers cannot determine salaries. Phillips ended up being fired the next day because “the situation [was] not recoverable,” claiming that the excuse was a “pre-text for race discrimination.” Shannon Phillips is seeking compensatory and punitive damages over the “embarrassment, humiliation, loss of self-esteem, mental anguish, and loss of life’s pleasures.” As for Starbucks, the company has denied these claims.

Joel Embiid & Karl-Anthony Towns Trade Petty Tweets After Fight [Video]

While the NBA is no longer as dangerous as it was during the Bad Boy era it still doesn’t bode well for the lighthearted. Two top stars got into it on the court and now their beef has spilled into social media. As spotted on  Hot New Hip Hop Joel Embiid and Karl Anthony Towns haven’t had the rosiest history since the two first played against each other. Things got a little heated on Wednesday, October 30 when they faced off at the Wells Fargo Center in Philadelphia. In the middle of the game both players got tangled up by the arms that led to a shoving match. Right after they took the floor for some tussling which resulted in headlocks and missed punches. Thankfully they were separated before things got dangerous but the problems didn’t end there. KAT and Embiid GOING AT IT. Wow. pic.twitter.com/bXjAGiB5ul — Bleacher Report (@BleacherReport) October 31, 2019 After the Philadelphia 76er win Joel Embiid referenced the altercation with a not so thinly veiled tweet. “Great team win!!! A heartbreaking video is circulating of 14-year-old child being attacked in a bathroom by several students. Students involved in the incident are being identified. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with City Schools’ Code of Conduct and the law. “ The statement continued, “We are committed to the safety and security of our students and staff and work hard every day to create positive and supportive environments for teaching and learning. To the extent possible, students in the video have been identified. Appropriate action will be taken in accordance with City Schools’ Code of Conduct and the law.” See the video below, but please be warned that it is graphic. Another disturbing video has surfaced showing a 14-year-old Baltimore high school student being viciously beaten in the boys' bathroom by a gang of thugs.  It was confirmed that the attack took place at Bluford Drew Jemison STEM Academy. 443-642-2110 pic.twitter.com/BMFzx1qntV — Big Boss (@escapedmatrix) October 11, 2019 According to the National Center for Educational Statistics from 2016, Black children have the highest rate of being bullied, “25% of African-American students, 22% of Caucasian students, 17% of Hispanic students, and 9% of Asian students report being bullied at school.” Sadly, bullying often results in suicide, “Bully victims are between 2 to 9 times more likely to consider suicide than non-victims, according to studies by Yale University,” the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention  reported . On top of that, the CDC  found that  more than “14 percent of high school students have considered suicide, and almost 7 percent have attempted it.” A most recent example is  Phillip Spruill Jr. , an 11-year-old 5th grader from Philadelphia,  killed himself in April after incessant bullying at school because of his weight. In addition, Kevin Reese Jr. , a 10-year-old from Houston, hanged himself to death in January because he was bullied at school through taunting and physical abuse, the New York Daily News  reported  at the time. An overwhelming amount of kids who are bullied don’t report it, according to many educators. Most bullied children are at a higher risk of anxiety, depression and other negative outcomes. We hope the bullies in the video are properly punished and our thought go out to the 14-year-old.  SEE ALSO: Some No Name, Pitchy R&B Singer Disrespected Keith Sweat And Gets Demolished On Twitter Outrageous! Weeks after unveiling renovated basketball courts in North Philly Meek—whose real name is Robert Rihmeek Williams —returned to his former elementary school to donate backpacks and school supplies, CBS Philly reported. Blaine Elementary School to provide students with encouraging words and distribute 500 backpacks filled with supplies. He also gifted 30 teachers at the school with classroom supplies that will last the entire year. The initiative was a collaborative effort between Williams and Puma. This isn’t the first time that he has stepped up to support the youth during the back-to-school season. In the past, he’s hosted several school drives benefiting children in his hometown. Last year, he teamed up with the School District of Philadelphia to donate 6,000 backpacks to underprivileged students. “Growing up in Philly, I’ve watched families struggle to make ends meet and buy basic school supplies for the kids,” he told Billboard in a statement. “Those memories stay with me and that’s why I’m committed to giving back to families in my hometown, putting smiles on kids’ faces and helping them start the school year on the right now with the right supplies.” Williams’ donation comes at a time where many students and teachers at schools throughout the country need support as financial obstacles have prevented them from being able to purchase essential supplies for school. According to the  National Center for Children in Poverty , 15 million children throughout the country live in extreme poverty and are unable to afford school supplies. A  study  conducted by the National Center for Education Statistics revealed that 94 percent of public school teachers have spent some of their own money on school supplies without reimbursement. Thursday night was no different. On New York Fashion Week’s opening night at the Daily Front Row Fashion Media Awards, Moore used the red carpet as a call to action. There to accept the “Cover of the Year Award” for her historic Elle magazine cover earlier this year, she rocked a gorgeous red Oscar de la Renta gown, pairing them with long cascading Beads By Aree keepsake earrings that paid homage to 16 Black trans murdered this year. Each gold frame held a picture of women including Jazzaline Ware , Ashanti Carmon , Muhlaysia Booker , and Michelle “Tamika” Washington to name a few. In addition, her clutch had a picture of 17-year-old Bailey Reeves . “ Thank you Aree, for sharing your keepsake earrings so I could bring my sister’s with me tonight,” the 24-year-old Louis Vuitton spokesperson wrote on Instagram.  According to W , during her speech, Moore told the crowd, “As you all know, or not, I am Black, and I am trans. Right now the Supreme Court [is] voting on whether or not trans people can access employment, shelter, and healthcare in the same ways that you all have access,” making it a difficult time, they added, “to celebrate being celebrated for being myself.” View this post on Instagram Thank you Aree, for sharing your keepsake earings so I could bring my sister's with me tonight.
