Jill Duggar Comes Clean: I Suck at Cooking! I Ruin My Kids’ Food!

With two kids at home and a husband in law school , we think it’s safe to say Jill Duggar has a lot on her plate these days. Unfortunately, her kids can’t say the same, because Jill keeps burning their meals! We kid Jill, of course. We’re sure that on her best days, she’s perfectly capable of conjuring one of those bizarre Duggar specialties like tater tot casserole or “the chickennetti,” which In Touch describes as “spaghetti, chicken, broth, canned tomatoes, cream of chicken soup, Velveeta cheese.” Perhaps not surprisingly, that particular atrocity is Josh’s favorite. Anyway, Jill was cooking a more traditional “meal” earlier this week when things went horribly awry in a hilarious way. According to her Instagram Story, Jill attempted to prepare a mac and cheese cup for her youngest son, Sam, but she missed a crucial step in the process. “Can’t really see it here but it’s a little bit smokey in here because yours truly was a little bit distracted while making mac ‘n’ cheese,” Jill said, while showing off the burned cup. “Those little mac ‘n’ cheese cups, this is what’s left of Sam’s mac ‘n’ cheese. I forgot to add water to it,” she added. “So it started smoking and I was like, standing there looking. I was like, ‘Oh that’s interesting.’” Interesting, indeed. To her credit, Jill is offering up this story as a relatable mom moment. Self-deprecation is not exactly the Duggars’ strong suit, and it took guts for Jill to break from the family norm like this. “I didn’t notice there was any kind of smoke, it must be really hot coming out of top of the thing here.’ I was like, ‘Oh it looks a little smokey up here like, pouring across the ceiling,’” the mother of two continued. “And I was like, ‘What’s that?’ And then I was like, ‘Uhhh,’ and I checked the microwave. I opened the microwave and I’m like ‘Ooh, I forgot to add water,’”  “Note to everyone … you have to add water to mac ‘n’ cheese or it will turn into a black noodle melted mess LOL.” Fortunatelly, the story had a happy ending, as it was later updated with a short clip of a very eager Sam accepting Jill’s successful second attempt — an un-burnt offering of mac and cheese. There’s a joke to be made here about the link between the Kraft corporation and happy endings , but it would be inappropriate for an article about a family so chaste as the Duggars. So you’ll just have to imagine it for yourself.  Feel free to involve Tom Brady. View Slideshow: Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard: Here’s Why Fans Think They’re Getting Divorced

Asian-Owned D.C. Bar Accused Of Calling Woman ‘Black’ And ‘Ugly’

See the original post:

Source: Tetra Images / Getty A D.C. bar is under fire after a woman says she experienced “racist, sexist, colorist epithets” while visiting as a customer. Pierrea Naketa detailed the incident in a Medium article and explained that she visited Copycat Co. in the H Street neighborhood after leaving a silent dance party in the same area. At first, Naketa says she and her friend were having a good time but right when they were about to leave, the two witnessed a major disturbance at the bar area. Naketa says a male bartender “with deep brown skin” had “aggressively approached two black women sitting at the bar and snatched their plate of food.” Then, Naketa says he yelled to one of the women who was dark-skinned, saying “This bit** gotta go!” “Bit**? Why am I bit**,” Naketa says the woman responded. This is when Naketa says the bartender escalated things and went into a tirade screaming multiple times “YOU BLACK AND YOU UGLY BIT**! YOU BLACK AS F*** AND YOU UGLY!” Naketa noted that the dark-skinned lady’s friend had a lighter complexion. According to Naketa, the bartender was mad about another incident that happened the last time the dark-skinned woman was there. He argued that she was banned from CopyCat. Naketa explains, “the woman stated someone she was with got into an altercation with the bartender and they left, but she seemed to genuinely not know she was not welcomed to return.” As a matter of fact, Naketa said the woman and her friend were buying drinks and food with no interruption up until the bartender’s confrontation. Not too long after the bartender began his alleged tirade, Naketa says a short Asian man, who she assumed was the manager, came out and calmly told the dark-skinned woman she had to leave. Naketa then says, “After being humiliated in front of a packed room, she left with more grace than many I know would have. She obliged the request while noting to the manager, ‘Do you hear him calling me black and ugly? Is that okay?’” Once the woman left, Naketa says she felt obligated to talk to the manager: “I explained to him that while I do not know what happened before, and Copycat may have had good cause to want the woman to leave, the way she was asked to leave was disturbing. I asked him if he would be addressing the colorist rant with the bartender.” That’s when Naketa says the man said, “What? Do you want me to fire him?” He then tried to explain that the bartender was Black too. Naketa responded to the presumed manager in her article, saying, “that the bartender’s race is irrelevant and that his employee had screamed colorist remarks in front of a room full of people. I told him that my friends and I were uncomfortable and offended.” Naketa argues that the presumed manger didn’t take her concerns seriously and as she began to respond, “a young Black man who worked in the kitchen appeared from around the corner with a ladle in hand.” Naketa says he wrongfully assumed that Naketa was the woman who had been kicked out. Naketa says that he yelled, “Man quit talking to these bit**es! You been talking to these bit**es for 10 minutes! Kick the bit** out!’” After Naketa’s masculine partner came over and corrected the cook, Naketa says he apologized. However, when she asked for the presumed manager’s name, he replied, “I’m not giving you my name.” Naketa argues that if she hadn’t been a dark-skinned Black woman, “my complaint would have been taken seriously.” The next day, when Naketa Googled the restaurant, she realized that the man she was addressing who she thought was the manager was actually one of the owners of the restaurant Devin Gong. According to Thrillist , Gong is the owner of CopyCat Co., which “combines craft cocktails with Northern Chinese bites like pot stickers, skewers, and bao buns.” He just opened another restaurant called Astoria in the Dupont Circle area of Washington, D.C., according to Eater . Since Naketa has shared her story on Medium , some folks across social media have supported her situation, saying they will never go to CopyCat Co. again.   Naketa describes herself as a “Black lesbian, law school grad, organizer, writer” and “Founder and President of Play In the Sun , an anti-colorism organization.” The woman who she says was kicked out has yet to make a public statement about the alleged incident. NewsOne reached out to Devin Gong with no response. Naketa urged people to share her story, writing, “I hope that I will find this woman.”

The institution is Houston’s oldest law school. Starling— who is working towards completing her final year in law school—has a lot of experience in both the business and law sectors. Throughout her journey, she’s balanced working full-time for a federal agency, pursuing her educational goals, and motherhood. In her new role, she hopes to bring diverse narratives within the legal community to the forefront. “Our school has a rich and impressive history; our alumni are Texas Supreme Court justices, judges, U.S. and district attorneys, and presidents of state and local bar associations, to name a few,” she said in a statement. “Our Law Review should reflect that same culture; it should be a leading resource for the legal community. It is not enough to be on Law Review — we have to increase our presence and open doors for all the law students who follow our stead as the esteemed South Texas Law Review.” Starling is fully aware of the responsibility that comes with being the first Black editor-in-chief and does not take her appointment lightly. She says she wants to do her best to open doors for others who look like her to follow in her footsteps. STCL faculty members believe that her appointment is a major step towards fostering diversity. Black women are stepping into leadership positions at prestigious colleges and universities. In November 2018, Kristine E. Guillaume was appointed to lead the Harvard Crimson ; making her the first African American woman to become president of the paper since it launched in 1873. #BlackGirlMagic: Graduate Receives Master’s Degree, Law Degree In Same Week

T his graduation season has been a busy one for Ashley Williams . According to Because of Them We Can , Williams graced two graduation stages within the same week; receiving her master’s degree and a law degree from two different universities. Black Girl Magic: She received her master’s degree and law degree in the same week from two different universities! https://t.co/MNdu06VuCS — #becauseofthemwecan (@Becauseofthem) May 26, 2019 Williams, who has a passion for political advocacy and civic engagement, earned a master’s degree in Political Management from George Washington University. Two days after the Washington, D.C.-based commencement ceremony she traveled to Philadelphia to receive her JD from the University of Pennsylvania. She started her journey at George Washington University in 2015. The political management program allowed her to take online courses and Williams saw it as the perfect opportunity to take advantage of the virtual option and pursue another degree. She later applied and was accepted into the University of Pennsylvania Law School. She pursued both degrees all while serving as a Special Advisor and Director of Special Projects at the State Department. She also studied abroad in Tokyo. Williams’ accomplishments didn’t come easy. She had to continually readjust her schedule and priorities to find a balance between being in both programs. “A lot of people wondered why I continued with my master’s after starting law school, but both stimulated my mind in different ways. I was incredibly fortunate to be able to do both, but it did require sacrifice and discipline,” she said. “During my first year of school, I stopped my Master’s program so I could focus on law full time. The summer following my first year, I resumed my Master’s program and simultaneously did law and my Master’s until I completed my Master’s in December of 2018—which I did while I was studying abroad in Tokyo.” She hopes that her story will encourage others to stop limiting themselves and be unapologetic about accomplishing their goals. Williams is the epitome of #BlackGirlMagic. Jinger Duggar: Is She Really Feuding With Her Parents?!

Rebel. The word has followed Jinger Duggar relentlessly for the past several years, and it seems she’s not ashamed of the title. It started when Jinger began wearing sweatpants in defiance of her family’s dress code, and Jinger has been engaging in one act of defiance after the other ever since. Now, it’s important to note that Jinger is only a rebel by the standards of her ultra-conservative family. She’s a married mom and devout Christian who’s famous for her devotion to her husband and daughter, as well as her unassuming demeanor. But she’s also strayed from the path her parents carved out for her on a number of occasions. Jinger’s most recent high-profile act of rebellion was her decision to move to Los Angeles so that her husband, Jeremy Vuolo, can attend divinity school there. But that’s certainly not the only way that Jinger has outraged her fundamentalist folks this year. One mini-scandal that the Duggars have yet to acknowledge publicly is Jinger’s avowed support of the LGBT community . We learned that the 25-year-old does not share her parents’ backward belief system when she posted supportive comments pertaining to her brother-in-law, Charles Vuolo, and a short film he made about trans rights. These may seem like very minor infractions, but dissent is simply not tolerated in the Duggar family, particularly when that dissent comes from a young woman. The situation has gotten so bad in recent weeks that it was widely rumored that Jinger had been disowned by her parents . That doesn’t seem to be the case (the more Duggar-obsessed corners of the internet love jumping to conclusions), but it does look as though there’s some serious friction between Jinger and her parents. Several sources have claimed that Jinger is no longer on speaking terms with Jim Bob and Michelle. While we have no way of knowing for certain if that’s the case, it is interesting that the two couples have not interacted directly on social medisa in several months. This, despite the fact that the Vuolos live about 800 miles away from the Duggars in Laredo, Texas. A source claims that Jim Bob and Michelle are “thrilled” about their daughter’s relocation, but the couple has issued a statement or commented on any of her recent posts about the move. In all likelihood, Jim Bob and Michelle are going to great lenghts to make it clear to Meghan that they don’t agree with her recent choices. But she’s almost certainly not kicked out of the family. If the Josh Duggar sex scandals taught us anything, it’s that the Duggars are a vry forgiving lot. View Slideshow: Jinger Duggar Shares Adorable Pics of Her “Little Family,” Melts Fans’ Hearts

Kim Kardashian: I’m Gonna Be a Super Important Lawyer!

Kim Kardashian issued a warning to fans on Keeping Up with the Kardashians last night: Enjoy my naked photos while you can , she basically said, because you’ll only have them to ogle for about another decade or so! About one month after news broke that Kardashian was studying to become a lawyer , the reality star expounded on her plans in far more detail on the latest installment of this E! hit. In a revealing few minutes of the show, Kim opened up about her decision to start a four-year apprenticeship with a law firm in San Francisco last summer, with the goal of taking the bar exam in 2022. She is NOT messing around, people. Unbeknownst to many, the 38-year old has been working with author and CNN commentator Van Jones and attorney Jessica Jackson, cofounders of #cut50, a national bipartisan advocacy group on criminal-justice reform, for months, visiting prisons, petitioning governors. As you likely do know well by now, she successfully petitioned President Donald Trump last year to commute the life sentence of Alice Marie Johnson , a nonviolent drug offender. And she said last night that prison reform is atop her list of priorities going forward. “It’s kind of crazy because I’m learning it all as I go,” she said on camera. “I spend more time on this than I do anything else. It’s insane but it’s so fun to be around people that are super smart and get it and want the same thing.” Kim’s father was an attorney. He famously helped defend O.J. Simpson in his 1994 murder trial. Kardashian said on air that her dad discouraged her way back in the day from joining this family business, but that working on behalf of Johnson has “motivated” her to try again. “I remember in the OJ case, I would go be going through it and Kourtney would yell at me: ‘Stop going through all of dad’s stuff!’ ” she said of how she’s always had an interest in the law. Added Kim along these lines: “My dad always taught me that hard work is really important and to really commit to things, so my goal would be in like, 10 years, to give up being Kim K and just focus on this and be an attorney and fight for so many deserving people.” It would seemingly be very easy to make fun of Kim Kardashian here. It seems insane of her to think she’s gonna suddenly become a successful and important lawyer, right? This is the same woman who is only famous because she had sex with Ray J on camera. But she actually does seem to acknowledge that it will take time — and let’s imagine for a moment that she can pull it off. We’ve mocked Kim on so many occasions in the past for NOT using her global influence on anything more useful that offering terrible diet tips and/or promoting ridiculous weight loss supplements . We’re not about to hurl any shade now when Kardashian talks about using it for the actual greater good. “I’m dealing with my three kids, I’m dealing with my career, the fourth baby coming and the stress of law school,” Kim said of the challenges ahead. “Just because you do an apprenticeship does not mean that it’s anything less – I mean, you have to put in 18 hours a week. It is a full commitment. I won’t have time for events, for favors, for friends, for literally anything, for four years.” Kanye West is fully on board, however, and Kim has always said she works hard. Here is her chance to prove it. “I’m not afraid to work hard,” she concluded. “It’s going to be really hard but it’s also really important to me to keep this quiet for a while so I can stay committed and focused.” View Slideshow: Kim Kardashian Basically Got Naked on This Red Carpet and Twitter Came at Her So Hard

Jill Duggar: Why Is She Hated By Counting On Fans?

At first glance, Jill Duggar appears to be about as completely innocent and innocuous as any human being can be. Jill is a young mother of two with a husband in law school. She used to make big bucks as a reality star, but these days, she’s a stay-at-home mom who occasionally supplements her family’s income by working as a midwife . But as with just about everything involving the Duggar family, there’s more to Jill than meets the eye. And a lot of what’s just beneath the surface is the sort of stuff that the Duggars would probably prefer to keep out of the spotlight. Jill is one of the least well-liked members of the Duggar family. You may have had the experience of wandering into the comments section on one of Jill’s Instagram posts and wondering why she’s so widely despised. As it happens, there’s no one answer to that question. The biggest problem for many fans is that Jill stuck by her husband after he was kicked off of the family’s reality show. Derick was fired from Counting On for launching a transphobic tirade against fellow network star Jazz Jennings. Jill not only refused to speak out against her husband’s bigotry, she also quit the show as a gesture of solidarity, leaving her family with no visible means of support. It’s not hard to see why many fans may have been chagrined by that decision. But it’s certainly not the only reason that so many fans are so unforgiving of Jill. Many fans take issue with Jill’s method of homeschooling her children. These people point out that the mother of two continues to rely on materials provided by the Institute for Basic Life Principles. The curriculum has been heavily criticized in the past for a number of reasons, not the least of which is that children are taught that sexual assault victims are often to blame for their perpetrators’ crimes. This is an especially disturbing teaching in the Duggar family, which has been beset by numerous sex scandals . Others who criticize Jill’s parenting focus on what they say is the lack of proper nutrition in her household. Jill is famously averse to including vegetables in the meals she prepares. Incidents such as the time she and her kids walked several miles to a Chick-Fil-A location highlight the importance of junk food in her children’s lives. Jill has also been criticized for her housekeeping, and in the past, she has not shied away from sharing photos of her “messy” home on social media. It’s possible that fans are right to be concerned about Jill’s parenting methods and belief system. But it’s just as possible that this is just a case of too much social media scrutiny combined with a widespread bias against her family. We’ll leave it up to you to decide if Jill is as bad as her harshest critics claim. View Slideshow: Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard: Here’s Why Fans Think They’re Getting Divorced

Derick Dillard: Driving Away the Duggars’ Closest Friends?

Earlier today, we explored the question of why Jill Duggar is hated by so many Counting On viewers. Now, it’s time to answer the much simpler question of why Duggar fans are so often critical of Derick Dillard. As you’re probably aware, Derick was fired from Counting On  back in 2017 after launching a bigoted bullying campaign against fellow TLC star Jazz Jennings. Needless to say, many fans of the Duggar clan were not terribly thrilled by the situation. And it seems some of Jim Bob and Michelle’s closest friends also took issue with Derick’s behavior on social media. For over a decade, the Duggars have been close friends with the Bates family, stars of WeTV’s Bringing Up Bates . Like the Duggars, the Bates are a massive evangelical clan whose unorthodox belief system and penchant for extreme breeding practices earned them a basic cable reality show. The Bates never became as popular as the Duggars — but they’re also considerably less problematic. The Bates share the Duggars’ ultra-conservative belief system, but it seems they draw the line at public expressions of bigotry, such as Derick’s campaign against Jazz. As many Reddit users have now pointed out, several members of the Bates family used to follow Derick on Twitter and Instagram. Now, it looks as though the entire family has unfollowed Derick. “The shunning begins,” wrote one viewer. “The Bates family have unfollowed Jill and Derick. Individual accounts unfollowing just Derick, meanwhile Ben unfollowed him, who’s next?” “For as much as they probably agree with what he’s saying, at some point, they don’t want to be responsible for negative attention that this will invariably draw,” another fan remarked. While it’s likely true that the Bates were not personally offended by Derick’s views, it seems they’ve decided to distance themselves from the controversial law school student. But despite the reports to the contrary, the Bates have not entirely cut ties with the Duggars. Insiders claim Jim Bob and Michelle are as close as ever with Gil and Kelly Bates. In fact, the couples have reportedly made plans to celebrate their next wedding anniversaries together. So it seems that the Bates decided that they’d like to remain close with the Duggars while completely severing ties with Derick. Something tells us that will be an increasingly commonplace arrangement in the years to come. View Slideshow: Jill Duggar & Derick Dillard: Here’s Why Fans Think They’re Getting Divorced
