Look out, Henry Cavill. An Oscar nominee will soon be coming your way. Michael Shannon has been cast as General Zod, the main villain, in Superman: Man of Steel . The Boardwalk Empire star is also known for his role in Revolutionary Road. Said director Zack Snyder of the casting: “Zod is not only one of Superman’s most formidable enemies, but one of the most significant because he has insights into Superman that others don’t. Michael is a powerful actor who can project both the intelligence and the malice of the character, making him perfect for the role.” The next installment of this iconic franchise will be released in 2012 and also feature Amy Adams as Lois Lane, and Diane Lane and Kevin Costner as Martha and Jonathan Kent, respectively.
